A|W 2015 Lookbook: Beautiful Blacks

A|W 2015 Lookbook: Beautiful Blacks

The best thing about September might be that you can indulge and dream about all the new season keypieces while it’s still warm, and you don’t have to bother how the hell you should pull off that sheer dress when it’s actually -5 degrees. I also always (!) kinda fall into a sort of color frenzy (The new red! The bright blue! The “why not” green!), secretly knowing that after a month of trying hard to twerk all that perky hues my mind (together with extremely slowed down bodily functions due to the COLD!!!) settles in a sort of achondroplasia (read: fashion hibernation) as well.

From that moment on, black will dominate my wardrobe, and socks and boots will become a staple while I’m already dreaming about Spring (and new sandals) yet to arrive. So why not safe all the hassle and focus on BLACK from the very beginning, even better when all the delicious trends come in a desaturated version anyway. Regardless the season: black will always stay the new pink, and to sport a little gothic chic this winter is anything but depressing (or in my case: laziness). Hope you have fun with my Lookbook!

Feels like summer!

Feels like Summer!

Winter mood is always “nesting-bird” chic and definitely a comfort to someone suffering from fashion Tourette (new season, new colors, new outfit, new shoes, newnewnew). Muted colors, feathers and fur, PJ trousers and who cares if you hide your toes in Birkenstocks (socks still on) hibernating on the couch with loads of wine.

With the first rays of sun though, not only flowers are blooming but the fashion spirit awakens again, and after the annual panic attack (NEED TO WAX, NEED PEDI!) the desire to slip into open toes and sleeveless shirts reappears, ditching the winter coat for a very long time. YES!
Except that some of this years summer trends are quite winterly: rusty tones (70-ties), feathers on jackets (Burberry), shawls everywhere (Rock star attitude). Sorrynotsorry said all designers and I don't care either, as long as I can take the most appreciated accessory of mine everywhere: the SUN!

Will refuse that Birkenstock trend though which some idiot decided was hot in SS2015. Will save it for next winter (new season, new outfit, new shoes, newnewnew!!!!!!!!).

When Hedi Slimane took on the job as chef designer at YSL and cut the “Y” out of the famous initials to change it into Saint Laurent, I was a little bit grumpy. Yves has always been one of my design heroes, and especially the shoes they created before the take-over (my dear Troopers, my sweet Tributes, my adored Triptoo’s...) are still grazing my shoe-closet as must have classics.

But then again, that was before Hedi’s first show hit the runway and with it an irresistible 80ties rock 'n roll vibe, “laid back cool” attitude, ready to boost your inner fashion “I don’t give a sh.t, I simply look that great” goddess. It’s such a pity that daily life does not come in black & white, because with wearing these clothes you will certainly feel like an aspiring groupie (whatever age) lounging somewhere backstage being captured in a random Annie Leibowitz grainy photograph.

The balance between sophisticated and that tad of sluttish-ness never felt so desirable and most certainly after I tried the (already a classic) Bianca Bow Sandal I am a fan of the footwear too. Unfortunately Hedi never returned my calls so I am still wondering about the name change, but honestly: as long as there’s some shimmering logo cherishing the bags for old YSL times sakes I am just fine.

That, and I’m forever grateful that another old’ gal is presenting the brand (hello Joni Mitchell age 71!) in the new ads, so I feel entitled to do a little advertising too.

How to: The Military trend

How to: The Military trend

Last week when picking up a friend from the airport (working huge black sunglasses and a Starbucks- mug only, it was wayyyyyyy to early) I spotted a guy in a full spring/summer-trend outfit. Excited and still half asleep, I kicked BF and whispered: “Look, that’s how you work the military trend!”. Needless to say that I pointed out at a soldier in his uniform who picked up his fiancé (my fashion brain totally tricked me) but what can I say: THIS GEAR IS HOT. Even hotter as it’s not only sported for survival reasons (*hut* hut* hut* through the mud) but on every runway this spring too.

Back home and fully awake now it gave inspiration enough to dive into my closet and get carried away by camouflage prints, muddy greens, and earthy hues. Now you have a reason to cherish chunky boots, rough knits and work all of it “tone on tone”. Key essentials for the look: pockets everywhere (to store lipstick, mirrors, diaries, scented candles and whatever we carry around), heavy belts, laced shoes and of course the inevitable navy-pattern. You probably all have the key items in your wardrobe already, so feel free to get spirited up & fire away (no pun intended) with my guide above. For all the others I can recommend a visit to your local army store: hot dudes spotting all included.

A YSL weekend

A YSL weekend

The weekend of Sinterklaas is (not only for the Dutch) the perfect event to gather friends, children, siblings, even pets (if available) and feast yourself through presents, sweets (pepernoten are highly popular) and everything which starts with alc- and ends with -ohol. Since EVERYBODY is partying and I obviously never say “no” to a decent festivity, I hopped my way (in gorgeous heels no doubt) from one celebration to another, hugging, kissing, drinking and eating my heart out.

No wondermthat my Sunday turned out to be a super slow one, cuddling myself through the house, not able to lift a finger any further than to reach for a book, detoxing tea, and of course pet the lovely collection of shoes I wore (one never can be too tired to caress Italian leather...).

You see: yummie, sophisticated, loving weekend: Totally YSL.
Hope you had a good one too!

Pop of color

Pop of Color!

Almost every decent fashion blogger I know has at least one spring post that begins with the words: “It was such nice weather this weekend that I couldn’t resist matching my summery mood with the brightest colors in my closet.” Quite original right? Later in the year it will be all about how to sport white and how it’s such a fantastic contrast to your tan.... but who can blame them!

With the first flirty sun beams out, I caught myself (guess it’s a natural fashion instinct) removing all the spider-webs from my peep toe boxes, lovingly dusting yellow satin and “attention blue” leather, when some frenzy kicked in. All of a sudden the living room looked like some clowns had quite the swinger party and left without their clothes and heels (question to myself: do clowns wear heels?): but wow! How cheerful!

So here you have it: am coming out of the closet as well. As a sucker for the first pop of color of the year that is. Let’s wait until the sun has done it’s job and I have a nice tan shall we? I almost can’t wait to write about how gorgeously white pumps support summery glowing skin.

Business Babe

Business Babe

As sloppy and chaotic As I can be in private, when it comes to actual business I am the most accurate person ever. I plan in advance, visualize conversations, and prepare thoroughly to make my point. So when I had my first meeting at one of the biggest publishers in the Netherlands, I was more than enthusiastic. Not only because I finally had a reason to pull out my favorite business skirt (Melanie Brown, with a lovely peplum in the back with a leather detail, oh so eloquent!) and dust off my 12 inch YSL’s which I have neglected for too long (too much working from home in sweats and socks I suppose...); I was also eager to meet the editors behind my weekly column, and ready to rant about my blogging passion.

What I didn’t plan though was how to get there, so off I drove happily on the wrong highway lane to the exact opposite side of the country. Never came to a meeting that late, that sweaty and distressed, gasping for water, and with 25 minutes left to leave a good impression. The best obviously. Well, at least skirt and heels still looked fabulous when I asked the perplexed janitor if I could take a selfie in the lobby to capture the milestone event. A total success I would say.
