Amsterdam Dance Event was in full swing last weekend, and invite after invite poured in to dance across the city. I had decided to take a detour to mayhem though and rocked my babies at an entirely different event: the parquet flooring of an exclusive charity dinner.

The decision was probably a little bit selfish as my new favourite heels definitely deserve to be danced to the tunes of some fancy DJ: they walk and dance like a dream! But couldn’t help think that I'd have more opportunities to marvel at the beauties (below the desk) while picking mushrooms from china, rather than causing myself a hernia trying to move vividly to techno and glance down at the same time.

Chose the James Bond setting and cocktails, but - excuse me - of course I danced too. You don't refuse when 007 (aka fundraising CEO, aka Schöner Mann) asks for a waltz.

Just give a girl the right shoes, and she can dance the world, whatever the occasion.

Could hear pure disbelief in BF's voice when he rang me to ask: “Be honest: did you order some boots recently -AGAIN? Checked bank account and recent mail quickly to be totally sure, but well: “No - not at ......” oh wait!

Didn’t I have this really inspiring conference call with Mrs. Safinaz Baylav from übercool brand Fersengold just a week ago? Didn’t we talk for hours about girl’s stuff (heels amongst others) which make our world so beautiful? Didn’t I mention (probably a thousand times) that I would gladly skip dinner any day for the amazing shoes she designs?

Guess every gal in the world would have jumped as high in glee as I did, recieving that (huge!) box of amazing booties, but you have to understand. These shoes are not only designed to perfection, they also fit like a glove, walk like heaven, look like a million bucks and today’s cuties even HAVE A RED SOLE! Just asking, but Louboutin who???

And no, I will never ever abuse BF’s commercial adress for deliveries again. Panic in a voice for something so beautiful is so(!) not appropriate.

The "dark months of the year" (which have just begun) definitely have their advantages. With "Gothic chic" as a huge trend this fall, it's perfectly okay to let your natural paleness return, ditch the pastel and neon hues, stock up on black, blue, and dark nail polishes, and get the hoodie out again.

It's also legitimate to dig into that box of chocolates more often, as the immediately gained weight (yep, that's the same throughout all seasons unfortunately) can be squeezed into black shaping tights and the odd cellulite (not that we have any) won't be seen (until next spring).
Also, Spanx won't make us sweat anymore on hot summer nights and no one will see that every now and then a granny panty will find it's way under layers of wool and tweed.

Probably the best thing though is getting out the boots which had to wait for so long to be worn again, and since we are not covered in snow and mud yet, they can be sky high, supersexy and suede. Ha! And no one would mind if the daily routine changes from "going out" after work to "jumping on couch" immediately, opening a bottle of red (and the chocolate box) and cuddling in front of the TV like a fat old cat"... Purr Purr Purr ... Autumn is not so bad after all.

Have you noticed ladies? Something is changing. It’s in the air, it’s in the shorter days, it’s the crispy clearness of a sunny day with that windy twist: and you can’t help but think: autumn is just around the corner.

Not that I haven’t already bought enough woolly jumpers DURING this summer (am fully prepared for anything cold), but now it’s displayed everywhere.
Shopping windows are showing autumn/winter collections: “new” hues (mainly ochre, bordeaux, purple, dark green) and all our favorite fashion whisperers (Vogue, Elle, etc) have one thing to say: get ready for the new season.

Don’t know about you, but I myself am a total sucker for the change of seasons and highly influenced (and inspired) by the new trends.
Love the baroque touch, the sixties patterns, and the flowers....(as seen for example at Dolce and Gabbana): stitched, crocheted and knitted everywhere. And even though I had the idea my summer never really started: am totally drawn to the new, and veryvery tempted to buy everything but the last “SALE” snaps (strapless and chiffon is sooooo summer 2012).

Best of all: the booties, the boots, the velours leather heels which will allow us to walk comfortably (and not force us to have a pedicure every week). I say jump!
Onto new trends that is.

Too Much Testosterone

Despite the fashionable influence of my grandmother (aka her vintage wardrobe), mother (a couture dressmaker) and my cousins’ impeccable wardrobe, I pretty much grew up in tomboy style. It was my friends who had the Barbie dolls and other plastic friends, I could usually be found outside in the mud somewhere, playing cowboys and Indians, building tree houses and hunting for snails (their shells make pretty good necklaces), leaves (fascinating inspiration for autumn fashion) and squirrels (fur collar anyone? ...haha...just kidding).

So I was more than happy to go back to my roots and play with my four nephews all day long: racing cars and playing hide and seek. Pretending to be Yedi knights is our favorite (am Obi-Wan Kenobi, the character of Princess Leah is left to my second nephew *sigh* - that’s pretty much history repeating itself though...). After a long day out hunting for snails and collecting leaves (left out the squirrels, wouldn’t want to give them any stupid ideas), we would snuggle up on the couch and watch Barbapapa instead of E!- and AH!: love my little men powers!

It was only today that I realized that I have probably enjoyed a little too much Testosterone the past days. Am wearing brogues! Glad that the “boy-shoe” (after boyfriend jeans and man shirt) was just chosen by InStyle to be the hottest piece this fall. Would have had to have a serious word with my nephews otherwise.

It’s Friday the 13th (again…it’s the third but luckily also the last one this year) but rather than looking out for black cats crossing the street, am looking forward to see one of my favorite designers today: Melanie Brown.
Even when weather god is not acting in my favor, fashion god is: am allowed to pick an outfit of hers for fashion week. Am so excited!
With my mission: “When sun won’t shine, I will” in mind, I hit her studio in the Hazenstraat feeling very much the celebrity, trying on especially customized and truly unique couture dresses. Am also totally in awe of her winter collection: it’s all about layers and refined possibilities of combining and wearing clothes in a variety of ways, and includes a leather T as soft as butter that she designed for …ha, must have been me! Would die for it (or rather….stop buying shoes and start saving money now)!

Over tea (Melanie is such a charming Brit) we chat about details and vision of her work before browsing her SS collection 2013 which I will be allowed to wear. Did I just say SS 2013??? Feel very Agyness Deyn and utterly privileged. Time flies with this lovely lady, who couldn’t be more passionate about her work and I am eager to take today’s picture.

Heading home with a (not so fashionable, but smelling gorgeous) take-out chicken for dinner on one side of my bike, a bag of couture clothes on the other and a festival to go to later on (see you in boots), I think Friday the 13th is just my lucky day.

Sneak Peak Fall|-Winter 2012

Summer hasn’t even fully arrived yet (at least not in the Netherlands) and I have had way too little opportunity to wear all the lovely light summer hues, when the first magazines are already featuring pieces from upcoming Fall|Winter collections.

It’s always exciting to get a sneak peak of “what to wear” in a couple of months and which items to get your hands on now, and I couldn’t be more eager to soak up all the new inspiration.

Find myself wondering if designers’ vision for the upcoming season was “make you faint” though.
Genius Miuccia gives our eyes something to work on (wearing her sixties inspired collection is sure to make you dizzy, plus disappear completely in front of retro wallpapers (= great party escape)), providing us with clownesque lumpy cloggs, which will luckily save me some money (read: no buy, and “hate clowns”).
Adorable Marc instead must have bought the entire collection of “History of French Kings” on DVD: his drafts show both a dignified gravity and are reminiscent of Baroque.
Including the shoes: opulently embroidered, buckles and all.

Bring on the beauty mark, wig and white powder, am fully prepared to rock the Amadeus look. In case of no post tomorrow: might have tipped over while practicing Bourrée and Quadrille in my Louis XVI heels.
