A|W 2015 Lookbook: Beautiful Blacks

The best thing about September might be that you can indulge and dream about all the new season keypieces while it’s still warm, and you don’t have to bother how the hell you should pull off that sheer dress when it’s actually -5 degrees. I also always (!) kinda fall into a sort of color frenzy (The new red! The bright blue! The “why not” green!), secretly knowing that after a month of trying hard to twerk all that perky hues my mind (together with extremely slowed down bodily functions due to the COLD!!!) settles in a sort of achondroplasia (read: fashion hibernation) as well.

From that moment on, black will dominate my wardrobe, and socks and boots will become a staple while I’m already dreaming about Spring (and new sandals) yet to arrive. So why not safe all the hassle and focus on BLACK from the very beginning, even better when all the delicious trends come in a desaturated version anyway. Regardless the season: black will always stay the new pink, and to sport a little gothic chic this winter is anything but depressing (or in my case: laziness). Hope you have fun with my Lookbook!

How to: THE DENIM GUIDE

How to: THE DENIM GUIDE

My 80ties nightmare is a pair of high-waist mommy jeans, worn with a perm to distract from the most unflattering ass ever. But that didn’t stop me from following the nineties denim trend with a stone washed carrot-shaped piece of navy fabric accompanied with the shoe-of-the-hour: jogging highs. (Brrrrrr!) Since then I have been a little careful following “denim trends” and it’s ambassadors (unforgettable: Britney Spears and Justin in a unisex tip-to-toe indigo combo), but this season there’s no way around it.

Denim is back as strong as its woven texture and if you invest smart, you will have at least four good reasons to buy some must-have shoes to complete the outfit du jour (which anyway is THE reason to follow a trend, don’t you agree?). Nothing wrong with a jumpsuit worn with a statement heel now (my favorite for a lazy day, no other styling needed!) or a cute little denim flowery skirt to channel your romantic side (peep toes, booties, sandals!). And although I will have to get used to the legitimate wear of flare jeans, I need a good reason to purchase clogs (back on the runway and hot!).

Best of it: you can mix & match all of the above because the greatest thing of any denim trend (throughout the years): it goes with everything!

All about that base

All about that base

Armed with a bunch of autumn steels (all organic, all flowers don’t you worry...), whistling Meghan Trainor's catchy “All about that bass”, I'm on my way home from a quick stroll through the park. Having just photographed a pair of lovely green heels and knits in the gorgeous setting of the Vondelpark, and totally in the mood for some hot chocolate, I realize that instead of “bass”, I’m humming “base”. Hit by a sudden bout of inspiration (base = basic = basic outfit in a fashionista's head...) had to drop everything and sit down for yet another set of pics “all about those basics” - which I have admittedly cherished over and over again these past few days.

When nature is still inviting us to play outside, an oversized knit and over-the-knee boots (ha, what better kind of “base” to pick for your daily look) will totally do for some outdoor pleasure and - why not - a full post on a heel blog. Although over-the-knees are always a good idea, don’t you think?

But just in case you may hesitate that that kind of boots (or a short pullover) might reveal too much or won’t work for your figure, I can only recommened listening to the rest of Meghan’s lyrics preaching: “Yeah my mama she told me don’t worry about your size. She says, “Boys like a little more booty to hold at night” which totally means I’m going to have two hot chocolates instead of one just now.

Have a happy Monday!

Yes, I saw it coming. I was warned (fashion signs!), I was alarmed, I was prepared. Or actually, I was so not prepared to be tip-toeing (still in heels) around this summer's hottest trend, the *deep sigh*: advanced flat (aka grown up and pimped orthopaedic shoe).

When Heidi Klum came up with her first edition of crystallized Birkenstocks back in the 90s I could still turn a blind eye hoping that the lapse of taste would be temporary. And certainly I tried not to be blinded (aka totally eye and heel insulted) when I spotted certain creatures sporting the persistent “Adilette”, which already found its way into fashion magazines last season.
Brrrrrrrrrr!

But what to do when flatforms are praised from Elle to Vogue as the new cool and promoted so fashionably? *Deep sigh again*: you try of course, even though for a heelalista this means lowering standards quite literally. Tricked everybody though because far away from home (nobody knows me) and on a boat (no heels allowed) everybody just thought I was so “laid back”. Now you delete that picture of me in flats from your long-term memory forever. This never happened and will just stay between you and me, OK?

One of the most outstanding trends this season is no doubt the artsy coloring, appearing on the catwalks from Celine to lovely Chanel. Happy, wild strokes of brushes gone wild everywhere, and since it was Easter this weekend where the tradition of coloring things is a beloved routine, I thought I might very well just unleash my inner Picasso too.

Though eggs seemed a little eighties to me, and I have bad experiences hiding them enthusiastically the night before Easter Sunday (the smell of a rotting egg: not the fanciest scent in your home indeed!), I turned creative.

And what could boost the desire to find a hidden treasure more, than hiding a pair of self-painted new heels anyway? So lets pop the tubes of your coloring box before popping the champagne to celebrate ergh... why not just yourself and creativity? Bring it on gals, and Happy Céline!

Yes, I tried to resist.Did my best to ignore the temptation of comfort (“would rather break my neck/leg in inches than be found dead in anything but heels” etc), and so fought blisters after long shopping day hours, climbed mercilessly over cobblestones, accepted the feeling of “can someone please amputate my legs” after a regular working day. All just to stay true to my mantra of running in heels (and smile the pain away): by all means and at all times. Well, I’m not writing this blog for nothing right?

So of course I couldn’t care less about the trend of shrunken mini heels (so perfect for the office/grocery shopping/comfy nights out dancing duh!!!!), but, well yeah. Here you go: I finally gave in. Adopted a pair of kitten heels recently, and now that I've lost all status of heel dignity, I can also admit that it’s not the only “kitty confession” I have to make. When no one's looking, I not only cuddle my leathery friends (those with the decent heels that is), but my forever favorite kitten-Kuscheltier as well. Glad we talked about it. Miauw!

I had everything perfectly planned. A weekend filled with fabulous fashion week events, celebrating endless nights out, praising the red carpet gods, and of course, the cherry on top: shoot an amazing pair of new heels with a male model so pretty that your eyeballs will fall out or at least start rotating like a hyper bitch on techno beats the moment you look at him. Yes, that’s the thing with plans: so easy to picture and look forward to and then reality kicks in and before you know it you end up in front of the TV stuffing your face with Haribo, watching German reality soaps.

If only someone had told me the doors at fashion week close at 9pm sharp, (that’s when I’m still in the cab), that drowning frustration in Gin Tonic due to missed red carpet doesn’t help (well, OK, I should have known that), and that good moods go straight to hell if a perfectly planned shoot with eye candy (now talking shoes not my model) doesn’t work out.

Now what? Guess crashing some friends house robbing their (shoe) closet and wrecking their couch and Chardonay stach will have to do the trick. If anyone comes across my Mojo though: please return to the usual adress.
