Hello Summer!

Hello Summer!

Sun is dimming its light to a subtle lavender color and small chuckling wave makes the lake in front of me look like a dyed deep blue plissé Isabel Marant skirt (summer collection 2014). The passing little ducklings in their young fluffy plumage would make a fantastic marabu bolero (OK... duckling bolero than...) for next winter and my attempts to keep the last candle burning (summery breeze!) to be able to type are to no avail as is it to neglect the gravity of my eyelids after a long relaxed boat ride in the sun.

When typing this, it’s the first long summer weekend in the Netherlands and I have done nothing but eat and drink with friends for 72 hours solid, dancing on boats and in summer bouts of rain, cycling across the city at 4 in the morning, sleeping in and enjoying life.

Only some simple snapshots, almost no running in heels, no fuss about dress codes, just decadent nothingness (and thinking of those duckling feathers admittedly: they would make fantastic boots too.... )
Please enjoy the official summer opening and shoe yourself, I’ve gone tanning!

Love you all, happy (off) heel greetings!

Water and the incredible light (aka inspiration for artists such as Vermeer and Rembrandt to do some doodling) have always been an essential part of the history of the Netherlands. And are the reason why thousands of tourists now flood the city every year to explore the charm of the canals.

Living here, the relationship to all that water (mostly coming from above aka rain) and “golden moments” (aka light, aka sun) is only comparable to that of having a baby though. It will cry and pee most of the time (water, water, more water!), which you try to accept, endure and ignore until your nerves are so tense and your own mood so strained that you simply can’t stand it any more. But the moment baby smiles ONCE, just for a few minutes, you will forget everything and simply stand in awe and pure delight, forgetting everything.

It’s 11 o clock at night in my city, it’s summer and I’m walking my lovely heels (brand: Fersengold, this name can’t be an coincidence!). I am asking you: Isn’t the light still incredible? Isn’t the setting just gorgeous? And isn’t this the most beautiful city in the world? Yep, I assure you: all that glitter IS gold, and it’s all worth waiting for.

Baptizing Summer

Baptizing summer

Wohoooo, it’s weekend, and can you believe it? The sun is shining, and it’s finally warm (ish - jumper still recommended against wind and when sun has gone down).

But still! Am far from complaining and ready to totally embrace the luxury of some neurotransmitters (aka Serotonin for those who thought that’s a shoe brand).
Yeah, it’s time to get the peep toes out and follow the pedicure instructions on your favorite style guide page (as described yesterday, you will find lots during this time of year, sun or no sun...). And yeah again, it’s also time to get your abandoned summery dresses out of the closet (remove spiderwebs before wearing!) and in my case: head for the beach.

Can you believe it (part two): it’s the first time this year that I actually went there! Had completely forgotten about the possibility of enjoying the Dutch seaside and how lovely it is to just hang out there and chill and enjoy the scenery. My heels? Wore them for two seconds. It’s the beach baby, and that means dress code “shoes off”.

Not for the official ceremony though (since no one has ever asked me to perform one for a ship, I have to come up with my own), baptizing summer in the name of sunshine, blue skies, leasure life, bubbly, and good moods.
Cheerio!

Mango has a return policy, which is fortunate when you fall in love with a pair of shoes (same for clothes btw) and just buy them without trying them on first. Which I do. OFTEN. What I tend to forget is to return them on time (after discovering at home that summer also means your feet tend to go up a size due to heat… or was it that tub of ice-cream I had yesterday?).

Anyway. Found myself at the return-counter the other day totally rejected (missed date of return by a mere 24 hours…) thinking: why is it that still no one is delivering to ME? Will TOTALLY work for shoes!
While trotting away (blush of shame almost matching my neon pink T), I decided to do something about it. Luckily, BFF of Boyfriend is specialized in building brands and his new creative office (“Brandbridge” nomen est omen) just got a “brand” new client: me!

So here I am, Saturday morning, all dressed up in a little vintage (understatement) pink shoes (statement!) ready for my meeting and to be utterly convincing with my idea: “Build me a brand, buy me shoes”.
Until that happens you can find me at a high street counter of your choice.
I’m the one fumbling with an expired bill.
