Simply Summer!

Simply Summer!

Since we all know that the dutch summer can be a little... erg... let’s call it moody, I suppose a little reminder that it’s actually still summer can’t do any harm. That time of the year, where you wake up to a cloudless sky (the only thing “blue” on your mind), 30+ degrees and and the drama of choice which barely existing dress to wear.

Needless to say that it’s also almost too hot to heel, so all ladies opting for flats to avoid Elephant feet in Gazelle sandals are excused. Well, my heels today are Buffalo’s and with a big crocodiles tear I think back of the beautiful summery day I wore them. Don’t we all need a reminder from time to time that it’s summer somewhere?

Yes, I saw it coming. I was warned (fashion signs!), I was alarmed, I was prepared. Or actually, I was so not prepared to be tip-toeing (still in heels) around this summer's hottest trend, the *deep sigh*: advanced flat (aka grown up and pimped orthopaedic shoe).

When Heidi Klum came up with her first edition of crystallized Birkenstocks back in the 90s I could still turn a blind eye hoping that the lapse of taste would be temporary. And certainly I tried not to be blinded (aka totally eye and heel insulted) when I spotted certain creatures sporting the persistent “Adilette”, which already found its way into fashion magazines last season. Brrrrrrrrrr!

But what to do when flatforms are praised from Elle to Vogue as the new cool and promoted so fashionably? *Deep sigh again*: you try of course, even though for a heelalista this means lowering standards quite literally. Tricked everybody though because far away from home (nobody knows me) and on a boat (no heels allowed) everybody just thought I was so “laid back”. Now you delete that picture of me in flats from your long-term memory forever. This never happened and will just stay between you and me, OK?

The fourth element

The fourth Element

I've always been fascinated with water, especially if it’s fermented with delicious grapes and comes in a bottle labeled 'Champagne'. And while browsing my blog archives it occurred to me that most of the top shooting locations were located near a gorgeous water environment. Welcome to my shooting special.

Totally thrown back by the marvelous settings, I started daydreaming in the middle of the winter about the rough windy beauty of Pantellaria, an island I had never heard of before. The memories of struggling in a paddle boat on lake Fuschl on a beautiful summer day and don’t get me started on the most outrageous BEST EVER journey to Brazil, with its dreamy coast line and crystal clear sea.

Everything seems so much easier when you are surrounded by that fourth element, some sun and a decent summery sandal (or wedge). Therefor I might just jump into the bath tub and pretend it’s a wild, untamed ocean. Heels on, and why not pop some champagne too. It’s water after all.

Read in a poll recently (and I suppose most of you gorgeous ambitious ladies out there will approve...) that our super busy schedules encourage us to boast about having no time. At all. Running from one appointment to another (heels and a rush = blisters you know the story...), constantly increasing the pace of life, we take less and less time to pause and just take a minute to embrace the moment we are in. Those precious minutes, just you (and some quality heels), which we call “stolen moments” but are indeed bridges towards (how Pharrell Williams of me): Happiness.

Well, indeed it doesn’t take much. A sunny day, a beautiful peaceful place, good company and voila: you are in the middle of a song. I suggest you get your perfect companions for some soul dangling here and just take a break to enjoy wherever you are and whatever you do.

Have a super happy Monday everyone!

You know the situation when you meet for the first time and it's love at first sight but somehow simply impossible to get any closer at that time? You know how it feels to observe in delight from a distance and than go home and can't help daydreaming for weeks (no months!), chewing at the end of a pencil at work dreaming about THE one. That one, and the bright future you might have together.

Also picture if you meet the object of your desire two years later, available AND in reach. After all this time, and unforgotten impression... this must be destiny! Imagine it is a pair of shoes I’m talking about - long-desired, never forgotten and then FINALLY the moment: heel to heel.

Imagine it’s no match at all. And you have to let go on your first date because you realize size does (!) matter ladies, and my lovely Casadei’s which I just ordered at yoox.com were simply to small.
I'm broken hearted and will just have to say “no” to a long-desired affair. Or (very Cinderella-like) cut off my heels. *sob*sob*sob*

Todays shoes WERE Casadei

P.S. The Valentinos, which came in the same box and DID fit, I will keep. Sometimes it’s handy to date two pieces at the same time.

Ice Ice Baby!

Ice-Ice Baby!

Hello lovely ladies, here are your toes speaking. Yeah, you heard right: the tiny extremities attached to your feet. You know us well: we are the happy chaps who keep you in balance, walk with you every day, can wiggle due to excitement and scrunch up in despair when “body” (our BF) is not happy.

Normally, this is our time of the year. After months of having been hidden in socks and heavy boots, not having seen any daylight at all (yeah, believe it or not, we like sun just as much as you do), we are in desperate need of being able to walk naked in the grass, or even better: get dressed up in sandals and peep toes. And how we love the beauty treatment we get just before that. What a facial is to you, a pedicure is to us: getting scrubbed, massaged, and having perky colours put on our top. We just love it!!! *wigglewiggle*

Unfortunately, we are still tucked away and hidden this year (hello: it’s MAY!!!), instead of ice cream dribbling on us while you are enjoying summer, we still live in some sort of darkness still freezing in pantyhose whenever you walk us outside. If nothing is going to change (DO SOMETHING!) all ten of us will organise an official demonstration to march against the ongoing disaster of cold.

We want Ice-Ice baby, and not Ice AGE!

Sincerely,
Your Toes

Beloved Routines

08|12_2012

It's getting unbelievably cold and as I see no possibility to walk today's Stiletto cuties anywhere outside the house, had to take them somewhere warmer (and steamier: they definitely deserve some warmth): the bath tub. While humming to myself and foaming hair, eyes got stuck on shampoo bottle (not that I ever do any kind of advertising here, but it's Andrélon...) and with it's slogan started to think about beloved routines which we celebrate every day.

Petting your children\dog\hubby\high heels in the morning for instance. Or going through the same motions of filling the coffee maker with water every day. Applying mascara everywhere BUT on your lashes, and picking your nose at a red light to work... They all become such a common practice, but there's actually nothing common to it at all. Guess what am trying to say is that will damn-heel miss it, jumping out of bed, kissing hubby, petting shoes, putting water in the coffee maker, jumping into heels, building set, taking picture, writing, (picking nose) and posting in... *sigh* almost 23 days.

And guess what, while whining and self pitying, moi managed to mess up my other number one routine this year: just cut myself the size of Africa (if my legs were the world) while shaving. Will rank swearing higher on beloved routine list from now on.
