The best thing about September might be that you can indulge and dream about all the new season keypieces while it’s still warm, and you don’t have to bother how the hell you should pull off that sheer dress when it’s actually -5 degrees. I also always (!) kinda fall into a sort of color frenzy (The new red! The bright blue! The “why not” green!), secretly knowing that after a month of trying hard to twerk all that perky hues my mind (together with extremely slowed down bodily functions due to the COLD!!!) settles in a sort of achondroplasia (read: fashion hibernation) as well.

From that moment on, black will dominate my wardrobe, and socks and boots will become a staple while I’m already dreaming about Spring (and new sandals) yet to arrive. So why not safe all the hassle and focus on BLACK from the very beginning, even better when all the delicious trends come in a desaturated version anyway. Regardless the season: black will always stay the new pink, and to sport a little gothic chic this winter is anything but depressing (or in my case: laziness). Hope you have fun with my Lookbook!

When Hedi Slimane took on the job as chef designer at YSL and cut the “Y” out of the famous initials to change it into Saint Laurent, I was a little bit grumpy. Yves has always been one of my design heroes, and especially the shoes they created before the take-over (my dear Troopers, my sweet Tributes, my adored Triptoo’s...) are still grazing my shoe-closet as must have classics.

But then again, that was before Hedi’s first show hit the runway and with it an irresistible 80ties rock 'n roll vibe, “laid back cool” attitude, ready to boost your inner fashion “I don’t give a sh.t, I simply look that great” goddess. It’s such a pity that daily life does not come in black & white, because with wearing these clothes you will certainly feel like an aspiring groupie (whatever age) lounging somewhere backstage being captured in a random Annie Leibowitz grainy photograph.

The balance between sophisticated and that tad of sluttish-ness never felt so desirable and most certainly after I tried the (already a classic) Bianca Bow Sandal I am a fan of the footwear too. Unfortunately Hedi never returned my calls so I am still wondering about the name change, but honestly: as long as there’s some shimmering logo cherishing the bags for old YSL times sakes I am just fine.

That, and I’m forever grateful that another old’ gal is presenting the brand (hello Joni Mitchell age 71!) in the new ads, so I feel entitled to do a little advertising too.

I love January for two reasons: It’s SALE everywhere and Hollywood’s Award Season officially opens:
the perfect excuse to never leave the house (except to score some cuties on SALE)
and binge your way through all the nominated films.

Spent all night yesterday watching the globes with my buds “ZA” and “NOTTI”,
had way too much popcorn and champagne and (of course) overslept mercilessly this morning,
but YESSS! - it was all worth it. Nothing better than dressing up at home for the occasion, treating yourself with a “glamicure”, having a blast judging Stars and Starlets, red carpet outfits, hair-do’s, and acceptance speeches from afar.

Sleep deprivation? So not Globes at all!

No doubt though that (besides all the gossip: I so do not wanna have what Jacqueline Bisset was having, but definitely the Louboutin’s Emma Thompson dropped at her speech...) the true winners of yesterday night were my fabulous, FABULOUS shoes. *Voice dramatically sobbing*:
“And I wanna thank Paul Warmer for their generosity, Guiseppe for always making my feet look pretty, and my patient boyfriend who snored through the night and couldn’t care less about the glitz and glam of a heelalista’s-world.
L.o.v.e. y.o.u. a.l.l.!!!!!!”

Today’s shoes are Guiseppe Zanotti.

Available (and on Sale) at Paul Warmer now.

Isn’t it soothing to know the same procedure kicks in every in December? The air is filled with love and anticipation, lists and giftcards for Christmas are written, and all your thoughts are focused on delighting your beloved ones: your ... ergh....feet of course!

Haven't you been waiting long enough; dreaming about that pair of (unaffordable) 10 inches,
admiring those ____________ (fill in heel designer of choice) from afar?

Well, it’s SALE everywhere now (retail makes it so easy for us shopaholics), and with all that glitter on Christmas trees comes the fabulous opportunity to not only decorate your house for the big event but your 10 best buddies (your toes) as well. Those Xmas gifts for others? Time to start practising that extra charming, extra excusing smile for when your Auntie unwraps that nail-polish remover (245 EUR saved), and your boyfriend gives you the look after receiving the two boxes of tooth picks (another 289,40 EUR saved) you lovingly chose for them.

Just shrug and smile: “Sorry, I spent it on myself” (petting the shiny Marc Jacobs\ Saint Laurent\ Paul Warmer’s you are wearing). It’s Christmas yeah: the time to love and pamper. Especially yourself.

“Look, look” best girlfriend squeals, pointing out some teeney-weeney red marks on her thighs: “These spider veins - hate them! Need to get rid of them. They're so hideous, I'll never wear a mini skirt again.” “Can’t stand the bags under my eyes” other friend recently revealed, hiding a hardly existent greyish shadow behind huge sunglasses. “So slacky and droopy, made appointment with “THE DOCTOR” already. Or shall I go for the face lift immediately?”

GIRLS! When did we become such experts in concentrating on our weak spots? Why do we spend so much time (armed with a magnifying mirror.... the devil indeed) obsessing over our flaws? Those veins - hardly visible - are just a tiny part of a pair of stunning legs, and no one is even likely to notice those 'bags' when they're attached to such a heart-warming smile.

A little more confidence ladies, and a little less unreal photoshop perfectionism would do us all a huge favour. Save that Dr. 90210 money and buy a lovely pair of super sexy incredible heels! That should help to distract even yourself, and give the ego the boost we all seem to need so desperately.

Oh. Me? I HATE my toes. High Heels make so much sense indeed! Love yourself!

Hot or Not?

Heard the whispers for a long time, and obviously in the US (the bigger and faster selling sister of any European country) they've been sold out for a while, but wawawoom: Olcay Gulsen's extreme platforms are finally available in Amsterdam too.

Having seen the excited faces of buyer staff members and anticipating clients alike (rumors of a waiting list circled around town) over the news, I was curious enough to have a look at the mysterious heels that were causing such a hype. Which was quite awkward at just that time when this season's kitten heels and flats have formed a union to relieve our hurting feet. In other words: I was just over trying to sport stripper heels without cracking my head on BF's record collection (top shelf). And now we're talking 7 inches. Boy, that's something! Have seen a lot of petit Hollywood ladies wearing them already though (which is a smart move: will allow them to see more than the navel of their directors), but do I see those beauties on the more than tall, average Dutch woman?

Luckily I am not Dutch, so why not give some balance lessons a try. Nothing better to do on an average Sunday than to play Courtney Stodden anyway. BF won't mind some broken records will he? So what do you say: Hot or not?

♥ To my lovely boyfriend Auke Riemersma, for literally walking with, and supporting me for 366 days, without a single day off. It wasn't always easy, I know, but if ever you were in doubt: I love you more than my heels schatje, really!

♥ To best editor Caroline van Leuven, who was sent from heaven, and who literally shared every day of 2012 with me through her editing (and reading my long and explaining mails every day). Thank you my dear editor-turned-friend, I am so glad we met.

♥ To my friends Ulli Pötschke and Stefan Schröcker, who supported my idea of writing initially and without whom I would still just be thinking about starting a heel blog.

♥ To my lovely family, especially my Mom Frauke, my sister Gerrit, my cousin Birgit (aka role-model) and her lovely daughter Nora who all gathered night after night to read what I was actually up to, as they didn't hear much from me this year: You are the best!

♥ To the fabulous team at STRANGELOVE, especially Vincent, Jeroen and Franklin who not only built my website but also my confidence and never tired of advising and encouraging me. Whenever in need of some (very good looking!) media pro's: call them!

♥ To illustrator extraordinaire Bridget Davies, who so nicely let me use her high heel illustration for my "Eddalovesheels" banner, and today's thank you note. Check her work, it's lovely indeed.

♥ To my favorite photographers this year (behalf BF) Tim Ayres and Nancy Cornelissen, who never said "no" when I asked them for help: thanks for all your extra hours and the stunning results!

♥ To my friends in Vienna, who gave me my Nikon (favorite accessory of the year 2012) as a B-day present. You know who you are but have no idea how dear this present has become to me over the past 366 days.

♥ To Tim Peterson for writing my press kit.

♥ To my favorite heel dealers Paul Warmer (Patricia and Atif: you rock!), Shoetation (Harald, we still good for the shoe fair this spring?), Azzurro (Richard and Saskia, I did not forget your help!), Daniele Dentici (especially the inspiring Marco Marcus) and United Nude: without you guys a lot of my favorite posts (and heels) during this year wouldn't have been possible to shoot: I bow!

♥ To my Musketeers (Ton, Marco (aka Schöner Mann) and CCF Janne), for always pretending to being interested in my shoe babble, and my girls, Connie, Sandra, Sonja, Eva, Anja, Livia (aka Rockbitch), Nica, Schnuffelchen Su, Geke, Iris, Caroline, and Kim, for always being my backbone (even though not seeing each other that much) and having an ear when things got tough and a shoulder to lean on was needed. Oh: and Sabine, Laura, Marjolijn and (although very male) Stefan: thank you so much for "liking" all the time!

♥ To my mates Dylan, Andre (aka favorite guitar player) and Jürgen (aka favorite drummer) for having had the pleasure seeing you during this hectic year.

♥ To Moët Chandon and Senseo Coffee, for always being available to consume and perking me up. (We need to talk sponsoring!)

♥ And last but not least, to my dear readers for participating, writing to me, following my year in heels, and being such a nice and attentive audience.

THANK YOU ALL FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY YEAR!
