The Good, the Bad & all THAT WHITE: Oscars 2015

Noticeably there was a slight revolution going on during the 87th academy Awards held yesterday. The feministic speech of winner Patricia Arquette (appropriately held in a no-nonsense black & white number) and the refusal of Reese Witherspoon to only talk fashion on the carpet (note: she also wore black & white) set the tone for a new modesty, whispering understatement is the new statement.

Exploded voluminous fireworks of fabric gave room to “the new demure”: a humble figure flattering smaller silhouette away from bombastic drama and dresses screaming “I am Cinderella” (Except J-Lo of course but she’s from the block so that’s an excuse). Luckily the multitude of fishtail dresses have had their days in the spotlight too (Rita Ora, you totally spoiled that moment in your Marchesa gown).

Clearly the other trend of the night was taking the white choice of nominated movies quite literally to the red carpet: white was EVERYWHERE. It always makes me nervous just looking at it because in my mind I already spilt some red wine on it and see some food tumbling -in slow motion- out of my mouth and onto the dress.

Saint Laurent (Dakota Johnson, Margot Robbie) was the new darling designer of the night, battling hard with Armani and Calvin Klein for most worn. And although I hated Marion Cotillard's (again white) gown, nobody purrs “Dior” into a microphone better than her.

Also the new pure transformed into hair and make up, I swear everybody will rock sleek do’s this summer, get your irons and gel ready. And statement necklaces (Cate Blanchet, Scarlett Johansson) will be back from never have been away.

To come back to Rees's movement #askhermore: I totally agree girl! No one on the red carpet during all fashion talk was aked what shoes they're wearing. Which was (together with the pouring rain) the catastrophe of the night.

It’s no secret that to win over the academy in the annual Oscar procedure you must a) play a part in a war movie (preferably WWII), b) gain or lose at least 15 pounds for the role, or c) bound and stretch for the miserable past (aka historic epic screen plays). Changing gender on screen helps too, and best if your role fits all of the above.

It was a feast this year to watch most of the actors nominated weaving their way drunk or outraged through 180 minutes, suffering the influence of drugs subscripted or just the cruelty of the non subscribed: ancient historic life. Guess Mr. Hanks is biting his fist now, regretting to only almost have drowned in water (SO NOT VODKA!), and Oprah just dialled Weight Watchers and\or her stylist to change her into a woman. Hmmmm...

Revelation of all this: Since Leonardo did not lose or gain weight for his role wallowing in vice (drugs, money, alcohol, sex), he will not get any statue tonight (again). But he couldn’t care less, he is probably having the most fun doing what he does on and off screen anyway: indulging in the company of a supermodel. I bet she wears gorgeous heels.

Spending most of the month indoors definitely has its advantages. Loads of time to daydream about new heels, and not going outside ruining them due to the never-ending soaking (or sucking, you choose) weather conditions. Perfect also for tucking into uplifting literature (my cousin gave me the most amazing book which will help moi emerge from hibernation as sleek and lean beauty goddess). Not that I haven't done any exercise yet, but hello: spiritual preparation will do half of the trick and otherwise: statement jewellery (see above) always distracts and keeps eyes away from anything wobbly beneath your neck.

Have also been very busy preparing for the Oscars (if you haven't already, please go see "Amour" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild", both utterly touching), and ditched champagne for once, replacing it with tea (am obsessed now, carrying little Pickwick bags in my pocket everywhere, call me tea-oholic).

And since the weather is nothing but grey it seemed quite logical to develope an utter crush on the black and white Spring/Summer trend (my favorites: stripes and graphic patterns). The latter might also totally help (conceal, conceal, conceal!) if I stay the lazy bum I have been and don't loose that stone I actually intended to. Ah, who cares: as long as my shoe size doesn't increase as well and I can still fit into those beautiful Jil Sander boots, I will be a happy gal. Cheerio!

I find it hard to concentrate today and I blame it on my lack of sleep.

Or is it, that I am still giggling inside about an event prior to the Oscars yesterday, which was not hosted on a red carpet but on a grey couch:
An exclusive meeting with my dutch ladies.

A night no Hollywood “Original Screenplay” could ever describe better:
Incredible loud (laughter) and extremely close (affection).

Very similar to the award show later, we shared romance in the category “Best animated feature” watching the video of one of the girls’ proposal (tears!), dreaming away over “Costume design”: hell yeah, we have a wedding to plan and “Bridesmaids” to become.
We discussed “Make up” and “Art Direction” for the future event (one day baby! :-) and my fave “Best original story” of the night was how bride and groom to-be met. (You just have to love the internet for dating).

Heels out and feet comfortably tucked we moved more in the direction “Best original score” (aka one night stand), which lead to “performance in a leading role” (one night stand) and “live action short” (“one night stand”) only topped by the discussion how to make love within the very thin walls of Amsterdam houses so you wouldn’t die in shame meeting your neighbours next day over groceries. (Best sound editing). You get the picture? I still can’t stop laughing… (“Best foreign language”)

Seven bottles of wine later I know for sure: my Oscar for “Best gals to hang out on a Sunday evening” goes to: Caroline, Iris, Geke and Kim.

P.S.: If you get the impression we only talked Hollywood rubbish: we shared very useful information about our friend “Swiffer” too.
No, that’s not a sex toy: it’s a cleaning device.

Today's shoes are… erg I forgot to ask due to all the entertainment.

It was a long way until tonight. 1591 hours of watching movies (I insist of seeing all nominations before the Oscars night to be really able to join the frenzy), and I can tell you: it was not always easy.

I had to stop watching “Tree of Life” as I am obviously “blond as Marilyn” and didn’t get it, fell asleep during “Moneyball” (no, Brad Pitt was no “Help”) and “Hugo” (twice), did a mani and pedi while watching “Midnight in Paris” and didn’t miss one important thing (including the annoying accent of Owen Wilson) and almost vomited at the end of “War Horse” due to Hollywood kitsch.

I do not understand why so many “child phantasy fiction miracle “movies made it on the shortlist, and I actually think that the original “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was more touching than the Hollywood version. (Sorry Daniel…) But I adored Kenneth Brannagh as much as I fell in love with Michelle Williams (“My week with Marilyn”), Glenn Close is AMAZING in “Albert Nobbs” as is my all time favorite actress Meryl Streep in “The iron Lady” (She could play a wet handkerchief and still be convincing couldn’t she?).

“The Help” made me think for weeks, “The Descendant” to hook up with Mr. Clooney (he is SO good when devastated), and I was in (silent - no pun intended) tears and utter awe with every little detail from cast to props (my favorite for tonight): “The Artist”.

Here I am: armed with champagne, laptop, remote control and a lot of stamina to watch the red carpet gossip and award show LIVE. On the couch. But with own red carpet then.
It’s the Oscar’s baby, what do you think???
