A|W 2015 Lookbook: Beautiful Blacks

The best thing about September might be that you can indulge and dream about all the new season keypieces while it’s still warm, and you don’t have to bother how the hell you should pull off that sheer dress when it’s actually -5 degrees. I also always (!) kinda fall into a sort of color frenzy (The new red! The bright blue! The “why not” green!), secretly knowing that after a month of trying hard to twerk all that perky hues my mind (together with extremely slowed down bodily functions due to the COLD!!!) settles in a sort of achondroplasia (read: fashion hibernation) as well.

From that moment on, black will dominate my wardrobe, and socks and boots will become a staple while I’m already dreaming about Spring (and new sandals) yet to arrive. So why not safe all the hassle and focus on BLACK from the very beginning, even better when all the delicious trends come in a desaturated version anyway. Regardless the season: black will always stay the new pink, and to sport a little gothic chic this winter is anything but depressing (or in my case: laziness). Hope you have fun with my Lookbook!

It’s all about the red carpet, baby

The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing and while it’s a madhouse for everybody working or promoting there, it’s a red carpet voyeur’s delight to watch the parade of designer garments passing by on an hourly basis.

For those who aren’t familiar with the tiny gem on the French Riviera: Cannes is a bit like Sin City or a very expensive call girl during festival season (that’s basically the whole year): Feeding on those who come to celebrate their peers (ranging from film to plummer festival: Cannes covers it all), pampering them with unreal parties, flattering attention, utter glamour and a very unhealthy schedule.

Cannes also only has three rules: “What happens in Cannes stays in Cannes”, “shine shine shine”, and “sleep when you are dead”. In three letters: F.U.N.!!!!!!!

I will be enjoying the frenzy from home, watching the movies and the vanity fair from afar (I’m in advertising and this festival takes place later this year). Nonetheless a perfect exercise to spot trends and dream about which shoes to pack when a famous movie star (ergh, not in this lifetime I’m afraid), or at least when hitting a red carpet somewhere closer to home (you never know, can happen any time).

So today it’s all about my spot-light-shoe wish list, with only one rule: Pick the most shiny, fragile, stand-out, sky high heel you are sure not to survive five minutes walking in it. But hey: it’s all about the red carpet, baby!

Fully inspired this morning to write about an amazing piece of art I came across in Lisbon (actually shoe….what else?), I jumped behind my laptop and *b*a*n*g*.

I almost spilled my coffee and choked on my low-fiber, less carbs, vegan cereal: The spring collection of Nicholas Kirkwood!!!

Reverential silence. *Gulp* (that’s for the last piece of cereal).

Being a fan of Nicholas Kirkwood for ages (his heels can’t described other than extraordinary), I have been following and marveling his talent since the first collection launched in 2004. But the masterpieces he designed for this season almost gave me a heart attack/butterflies in the stomach/utter tingle in my feet.

Every single piece is just so beautiful that it hurts.
I can’t get enough of the beautiful shapes, the use of the hues (oh, so spring!), and perfectly sky-high heels.
I want to dive into them and hug all of them at once, embrace their beauty and then fall asleep.
Happily.

Or wait: first I will get out a (designer) hoodie, arm myself with a heel, (aka gun lookalike) and rob a bank, buy the whole collection and then die. (Oh so heel-a-liciously)

Dear Nicholas: thank you for adding six more things to my “New Season Wish-List”:
You just made my (shoe) day!
Yours, sincerely!
