Autumn hues on the loose

Pappa November has gone crazy the past few days, pouring its painting pots all over the city.
Trees and bushes are tumbling into a punch drunk color frenzy, and so do I.

Well, at least the bottom of my closet was looking exactly like Amsterdam streets, all covered in a mess of luminous yellows and all the shades of red, pinks and browns you can think of. Yes, was adapting my closet for the lower temperatures, felt a little tipsy on texture, over dozed on bold tones and fell in a color coma.
When I woke up I had forced my BF to document me running in the wild with a bunch of flowers, kind of like an Olympic torch going in bat for my favorite season.

Good thing: I found many many gorgeous shoes which I abandoned in boxes over the summer.
Bad thing: I might still sit in a pile of bold tones arranging wild combinations oddly instinctive by spring.

If you are a prince, come along and kiss me out of my delicious delirium. Or forget about the kiss and bring a pair of heels instead. Bright colors and prints welcome.

Today’s shoes are my all time favorite Charlotte Olympia (which had slept in their box way too long)

New Year, New Heels!

New Year, New Heels!

With the New Year's resolutions designers will also be flooding us with new ideas to decorate our bodies (NYResol. No1: TONE IT), delight our minds (NYResol. No2: PIMP IT), and get us ready for the hottest dates ever (NYResol. No3: JUST BRING IT ON...). Certainly it’s not only the outfit which will us guide through a spectacular 2014, but the SHOES which will carry us in every situation, flawless no doubt.

The shoe fairs from Düsseldorf to Mailand played it rather safe this year though (hmmm, recession, or just the new modesty?), so expect a lot of flats, boy brogues, mid-hight heels with the lady-like pointy toe as we know it by now. Gladiator sandals will be back (if you didn’t dare last season: prepare to look like Cleopetra now), as will the flat form (aka still not flattering, sorry Marni). Spikes are replaced with shiny rhinestones which you will find even on sneakers and something that looks like a pimped Birkenstock sandal (Prada, hello?).

New maybe is the elaborated “Peep Heel”, a cut-out in the back, exposing your heel: so I suppose we should be investing in callus removers rather than Chanel lipstick now for utter “Samt Füssli”. And if you're a bitch on a budget: you can’t go wrong investing in something shiny and metallic: this season silver, gold and bronze are almost everywhere (no, Croqs do NOT count!).

Having said so: Happy High Heeling 2014, and remember: Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but shoes are her lover.

Hot or Not – The Flatforms

Hot or Not - The Flatforms

Whenever the fashion gods provide us with new trends my heart starts to dance the Rumba (aka flutters in excitement), and my creditcard starts to quiver (aka fear). Usually ready to follow the fashion mantra of every new season with glee, my dancing might come to an abrupt stop this summer. I should probably be glad that after years of squeezing my toes into sky high heels and platforms (to elongate appearance), designers are now blessing us with more comfortable gear. But I have to say ladies: I’m not.

Here comes the “flatform”, and with it a look that comes very close to Godzilla after he broke his ancles and attached two pieces of chunky wood to fix them. Surely you'll be able to walk these shoes for hours, but be assured too: it won’t look very elegant - at all. So, hmmmmmm. Am very interested in the opinion of my lovely heel-sista’s: would you wear them ladies? What do you think.... hot? Or not?

Today’s shoes are Derek Lam, Jeffrey Campbell, Need Supply Co.

P.S.: My creditcard stopped shivering and it’s my heart now experiencing a sudden bout of fear: Just had a look at the footwear of Céline for next winter...

There's nothing better than the idea that spring is just around the corner (well..... almost... OK), with the new season greeting you everywhere. I appreciate this to the max by diving into all the new arrivals that delight us with color, new textures and shapes. Almost died over Burberry's spring collection (bright metallics wherever you look), and in the event you should hear about a robbery on TV the upcoming days: that might have been me ensuring I have sufficient funds to afford that utterly beautiful bag. *sigh* Oh! And since I've become a (not very secret) stalker of Ruthie Davis' footwear, I'd totally invest that money in her heels too. In ALL of them actually.

If you prefer to act economically rather than be remote-controlled by pre-spring hormones (and still dive into fashion): I recommend watching Bill Cunningham's beautiful documentary "New York". A homage to fashion and glamour, spotted by the most humble man in fashion there is. Oldie (not you Bill!) but goodie!!! Or do as I do whenever I need to be cheered up on one of the hopefully last days of winter grey: a visit to favorite gallery - I could spend HOURS at Reflex in Amsterdam, glued to the work of Harland Miller (well, maybe robbing that bank wasn't such a bad idea after all), or visit my friend Melanie Brown's studio for a spring fashion splurge. If non of the above suits you: I bet flowers will. The tulips are out baby, bye bye January and hello new season!
