Anniversary ♥

Anniversary

Six years ago I came to the Netherlands to show my portfolio around (it was pure coincidence that Amsterdam was first on my international list, guess cheap ticket equals more shoes....) and bumped into this guy with huge sideburns and glasses. Our first (heated) conversation was about Rammstein and when he insisted on bringing me home I thought: "Dear god, please don't let this be a cheap excuse to get invited in for some coffee (aka try to steal some kisses). I remember the outfit AND the heels I was wearing that night, plus that he simply didn't. Try. Anything. At. All.

Which left me (obviously) with only one thought: WHAT THE HEEL IS WRONG? Well. To make a long story short, we did kiss at one point and three months later I found myself moving a truck filled with heels from Austria to Amsterdam to live with the most extraordinary man I'd ever met. Guess circumstances totally justify some cheesiness:

I loved you then
I love you still
I always have
I always will.

Silly fool who thinks I'm referring to my (nonetheless lovely) Escada boots.
Happy anniversary love! ♥

Rumor Has It

Rumor Has It

Rumor has it that wedding preparations can put quite a strain on you and having had my fair share in some of them, I totally agree. Designing invitations for a sweet befriended couple kept me busy for two nights years ago. While putting ribbons among 150 tiny salt and pepper shakers (premature rheumatism was the result), and taking care of the flower arrangements for yet another wedding left me allergic to Callas until this very day. Held a speech once too: was so nervous that I spilled all the precious champagne as my knees were shaking like a 9.0 on the Richter scale. And the tremolo in my voice would have made Maria Callas jealous. *sweat*

BUT! Isn't it lovely though? All the anticipation for the big day and all the romance and excitement? Couldn't help but be delighted to offer a helping hand for my friends Kim and Alex's wedding, starting with taking a few test pictures for the big day coming up. Aaaaaaaawh: the love of the two and their sweet commitment during the shoot struck me so sweetly that I almost fell out of my Prada's and straight into the "must get married too" bubble. Plus am pretty sure all photos have a "love struck" Hamilton blur now. *sigh*

Am quite tempted to propose to BF tonight. And start the search for the perfect wedding shoe immediately.....

Happy Birthday Mate!

Happy Birthday Mate!

When I hit the big, err, 39 + (cough cough) last year, my most precious birthday gifts were the people who came from all over the world to celebrate with me (for three days in a row, needless to say I felt more like 50 afterwards). My friend Dylan, for example, who flew in especially from Dubai.
We hadn't seen each other in 6 years, but it was as though we had seen each other just the day before, so familiar, normal, relaxed and cosy. That's very very special, even with good friends and I couldn't have been happier to still feel so close to my buddy (sniff, am actually choking up a a bit thinking of it).

So I recieved this very sweet text message a little while ago, inviting me over to Capetown (where D is originally from) for a follow up "forty and fabulous" party: his own.
Taking place: today. And you must have guessed by now, who is NOT sitting in Capetown as we speak (sniff sniff, now weeping silently over keyboard, big tears dropping on tip of heels...): me.

I would so have loved to return the favour by coming over and celebrating his big day, and in my mind I've been picturing myself popping up at the bash as a surprise guest over and over (outfit: red or pink ribbon, which heels?). Sigh. So have to work with what I've got and know Dylan likes here. HA! Lingerie and chocolate! Will leave the lingerie part to his lovely girlfriend and end up doing what I CAN'T really do: bake a chocolate cake. It looks like **** but I can assure you: it was made with love. That's the least I can do from afar.

That, and write a nice post about someone really dear. Happy Birthday mate!

First Time

First Time

Sensitive and emotional creatures that we ladies are, I believe (no, I know!) that a “first time” will always be something special in a woman’s life.

The first kiss, the first Prada bag, the first marriage, etc, etc…..it’s all very romantic and special. Guys are different, they just do things and don’t fuss as much about it after. Whereas us girls love to cherish that precious moment and talk about it forever.

Am for example running around with a stupid grin on my face all day. Pretty sure you know what I am referring to. Yes, am in love, and even if it’s ‘only’ with my new pair of heels, who cares: am ready to talk about it endlessly and make a big thing out of it: My first pair of Brian Atwood’s!
Feel very much carried away (can’t stop looking at them and have to touch them constantly) and irrationally moved (I see a red mark in agenda for anniversary coming up).

Am tempted to indulge in the quote: “Love is like a butterfly: It goes where it pleases and it pleases wherever it goes.” Except I would have to replace “butterfly” with “High Heel” of course.

Have to go. Need to talk to (shoe) therapist. Might become a repeat offender.

What a Girl Wants, What a Girl Needs

What a Girl Wants, What a Girl Needs

Warning to all male readers: do not read any further! This is a hymn to female friendships and since you all read “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” (in a desperate attempt to understand us) you don’t need any  further explanation on the subject. The secret: half the time we don’t understand ourselves either.. but we do know the cure to our troubles: quality time with girlfriends!

No matter how we decide to spend that time (greasy take-out, a romantic, tacky and predictable movie (crying out loud shamelessly), hanging out on the bed with tons of glossies - pointing out the new must-haves, getting a tattoo together, having a shoe skype (or just skype), sharing a shoulder when needed, or just simply (without words) opening a bottle of booze: we share. And we talk. A lot.

Girlfriends can actually tell from each other’s voice if something is wrong. We will warn each other that the salad stuck between our teeth matches the Charlotte Olympias we are wearing. Making the world a better place, we discuss cellulite, plastic surgery, men, getting a good nurse, and sex (not necessarily in that order). We talk shoes and fashion. Plus starting average sentences with “But sweety…”, “ Don’t you think…” and “Really…… no way?”… is normal. To us.

What a girl wants, what a girl needs every now and then is simply a girlfriend to hang with. Chatting blue (Tiffany’s), red (Louboutin), pink (champagne), green (envy), shades of gray (obviously) and the rest of the world.

Ladies, this is for you. Love and miss you dearly!
