The Great Wedding

The Great Wedding

So far it’s been a year full of love, and wedding announcements (and the follow up parties) have popped up like mushrooms on acid throughout the past 365 days. This fourth one was extra special to me though, not only because I’ve been planning and designing the event for month, but it was also the big day for my sweet baby sister, my best friend and high heel soul mate.

Hours and hours we spent on picking the theme (Great Gatsby), marveling dresses and shoes, picturing the event in it’s brightest (champagne) colors. Feather stolas were casted, bridesmaids gowns selected, pearl necklaces (ultra long) ordered. Everyone came in their finest costumes, their best heels, throwing in their every two cents worth to honour bride & groom.

And after all the long hours planning and spending so much time & effort in lovely but pricey details, I realised that the biggest and most precious good achieved was actually the brides smile at the event itself and the guests all laughing and dancing until the early morning hours, not wanting to leave the lovely castle in Austria where the event took place.

Priceless love, fantastic memories, a pair of COMPLETELY ruined shoes, one pearl necklace shredded, a hangover as large as the party itself: Mr. Gatsby would have been so jealous.

Today’s heels are a bargain steel (pimped with a little tulle) from a market in Spain. I never had more fun dancing.

Winter mood is always “nesting-bird” chic and definitely a comfort to someone suffering from fashion Tourette (new season, new colors, new outfit, new shoes, newnewnew). Muted colors, feathers and fur, PJ trousers and who cares if you hide your toes in Birkenstocks (socks still on) hibernating on the couch with loads of wine.

With the first rays of sun though, not only flowers are blooming but the fashion spirit awakens again, and after the annual panic attack (NEED TO WAX, NEED PEDI!) the desire to slip into open toes and sleeveless shirts reappears, ditching the winter coat for a very long time. YES!
Except that some of this years summer trends are quite winterly: rusty tones (70-ties), feathers on jackets (Burberry), shawls everywhere (Rock star attitude). Sorrynotsorry said all designers and I don't care either, as long as I can take the most appreciated accessory of mine everywhere: the SUN!

Will refuse that Birkenstock trend though which some idiot decided was hot in SS2015. Will save it for next winter (new season, new outfit, new shoes, newnewnew!!!!!!!!).

Pucker up, ladies. Smooches abound every spring, making their mark everywhere from shoes (Charlotte Olympia) to sunglasses (Jean-Charles de Castelbajac). Saint Laurent‘s Hedi Slimane doused an 80s-tinged ruffle top and short black wrap dress with an allover rouge lip print. Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s 1971 Vichy Chic collection, the smackers were a somewhat surprising embrace of the house’s history, and the high street (H&M: Sweaters! Zara: Scarfs!) just couldn’t wait to follow.

If mouthy accessories (anyone in risking a big lip?) are more your taste, look no further than my all time classic: a Lulu Guiness bag. Ah! I could have one in a different shade for every day. Or maybe that Diane von Fürstenberg I-phone cover? Or maybe that classic Chanel lipstick? Bright kisses (printed all over the object of your desire yourself) never run out of style. As does my shoe favorite of this month: Sule Orhan’s “Easy rider”.

A YSL weekend

A YSL weekend

The weekend of Sinterklaas is (not only for the Dutch) the perfect event to gather friends, children, siblings, even pets (if available) and feast yourself through presents, sweets (pepernoten are highly popular) and everything which starts with alc- and ends with -ohol. Since EVERYBODY is partying and I obviously never say “no” to a decent festivity, I hopped my way (in gorgeous heels no doubt) from one celebration to another, hugging, kissing, drinking and eating my heart out.

No wondermthat my Sunday turned out to be a super slow one, cuddling myself through the house, not able to lift a finger any further than to reach for a book, detoxing tea, and of course pet the lovely collection of shoes I wore (one never can be too tired to caress Italian leather...).

You see: yummie, sophisticated, loving weekend: Totally YSL.
Hope you had a good one too!

Amongst the talents my adorable Mom transferred to me (a lot of them linked to creating beautiful things and drinking impossible amounts of champagne while doing so), I totally lack the gift of her most forceful strength: a green thumb.

Being known myself for killing even the most resistant house plant in an instant, my mom transformed the backyard of our Salzburg home into some sort of Disney Land for beetles, butterflies, and bees (I know for a fact that champagne was involved...) and designed a blooming treasure chest where time seems to stand still and all trouble far away.

Although my understanding of a treasure chest would be more “Sex and the city” orientated (meaning that a huge shoe-closet full of designer heels is involved), I must confess that this little paradise totally lures you into forgetting to check your news feed. Instead this secret garden inspires to sit and read an actual book, jump happily between rose bushes for no reason, pick wild berries, recite Goethe and cut wild flowers all day long.

Actually with your heels off. If you ask me, that’s magic.

Whenever in need of a special detox day is (very much appreciated after all the partying whilst celebrating Kingsday in the Netherlands) I head to the Dutch seaside to enjoy nature and get back in touch with the pure elements.

Just taking the heels out on a relaxing stroll (balancing like a clown on eggs in the soft and moist sand), feeling the gentle breeze of the Dutch wind (probably wind force 10) and wearing nothing but a lace dress to make sure the sun can gently caress your skin (which you won’t feel because the stiff breeze is almost blowing you out of your Guccis): what a great idea!

I assure you, you will feel absolutely sober and rejuvenated afterwards and definitely HOPE you never have to do this again, LOVE the idea of going home and cuddling in blankets, and have FAITH that one day, ONE day you’ll learn to dance on the beach in heels and not look like an idiot doing so. But well, detoxing is overrated anyway. Where’s the next party?

Love!

When in love you inevitably experience some symptoms, which funnily enough, never seem to change, whatever age you may be. You'll feel like a giggling teenager, bubbling with inexplicable joy, grinning like an idiot 24/7. You'll experience an enormous boost of confidence and feel totally invincible. Plus you'll look jealous-makingly radiant and find everybody asking you what your beauty secret is.

There could also be another super good reason for all of the above: A) You bought a new pair of heels, B) You bought a new pair of heels before your holiday and recieved them just in time to pop them into your suitcase, or C) you're on vacation with the man you love, wearing this exact pair of heels in the most lovely scenery you can imagine, feeling like a godess.

Well, in my case it’s all those three and I loved, loved, LOVED every minute of it. Must sadly say goodbye to France though and head off to another thing I dearly love: Vogue Fashion Night Out in Amsterdam. Couldn’t resist doing some preparation already.

P.S.: If you are going to VFNO as well, say hello if you see me.
I’ll be the one who can't seem to stop giggling and grinning like an idiot.
