Get me in the mood!

Get me in the mood!

Despite the lack of snow, and general Christmas feeling (yet)...when you hear the first tunes of Mariah Carey yodeling to the jingling sound of bells it’s time to run and undust the sequin dresses, polish the über-big jewellery and put any modesty on hold. It’s December for glamour’s sake, the most sparkling month of the year, and everything normally considered “over the top” or “too much” is now dearly welcome.

A million things to do and organize before the big event but in my mind I already started the annual competition how to outshine the christmas tree, as in sparkling heels and a kitsch outfit (Christmas jumper anyone?). Well, at least once a year it's appreciated to look like a disco ball on acid.

So, just to get me in the mood I decorated a little this weekend, popped some champagne in advance (glistening fluid: my best, where have you been for so long), and threw myself a little pre-christmas party, with the best attendees ever. Finally a reason to bring all shiny shoes on one table! You can bring on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is Youuuuuuuuu”on repeat now, I’m sure that song was written for yet another pair of gorgeous heels.

Golden Globes Baby!

Golden Globes Baby!

The Golden Globes 2015 held yesterday gave Hollywoods' A-listers (or as Tina Fey puts it: “a bunch of despicable, spoiled minimally talented brats”) their first opportunity to dazzle and shine the highly anticipated first red carpet of the year. And like every year, everybody is talking about dresses, accessories and killer bodies, neglecting the fact that the most important tool to walk down the carpet is of course the perfect pair of heels.

E! ‘s attempt to embarrass their guests with the stiletto-cam rather than the manicure-cam didn’t quite cover it, loads of hassle to lift all the layers of fabric to hit that damn little thingie on the floor. But then again, most of Hollywoods' royalty channeled “Old Hollywood Glamour” (read: fashion-retro instead of fashion-forward) which is all about long, floor- and heel covering evening gowns.

The shoe trend of the evening was a classic black pump followed by the nude sandal (soooo 1950-2014) so it's Lena Dunham who wins my favorite shoe moment by kick-ass carpet in a red pointy number.

In other fashion news: Amal Clooney's gloves probably have their own twitter account by now, Jared Letho’s messy braid will put hair stylists out of work (DIY!!!) and Conchita Wurst snatched up the 'most glamorous and best dressed' title of the night, thanks to a green velvet dress which looked very “Out of the Woods” and something Snow White would craft from the drapes straight of the dwarf’s mansion.

But why not: it’s all a fairytale after all. Happy Golden Globes shoe-moments!

Balance, bitch!

Decided to do something special this month by featuring some of my most memorable blog experiences of 2014. This very first editorial is dedicated to all the seemingly impossible shooting locations and it describes my January mood: nothing is impossible if you are just stubborn enough to go for it.

So I found myself in the most ridiculous moments, battling extraordinary wind forces while shooting a (überprecious) designer gown which left me flashing underwear at 7 am in the morning in the Dutch dunes (sorry dear morning joggers, I didn’t mean to frighten you). Or freezing in a La Perla lace (!) dress in April on the beach. Anyone who has ever tried dancing in heels on sand please high five me now.

Shooting at 2000 meters above sea level was another moment where I thought: “stupid me, who is afraid of heights anyway?”. While digging out a 100 tiny pebble stones from under my heels I was cursing the idea (who did come up with that?!) of balancing on pointy rocks. Last but least I will never forget the moment a beardy woman won the Eurovision Song Contest, dancing the night away in bare enthusiasm.

May that be the spirit of the new year: it’s all possible as long as your footwear is not abandoning you and as long as you balance it out!

Big love!

It’s the most glamorous month of the year, and everything normally considered “over the top” or “too much” is not only appreciated, it’s a must. When you hear the first tunes of Mariah Carey yodeling to the jingling sound of bells it’s time to run and undust the sequin dresses, polish the über-big jewellery and put any modesty on hold: it’s December for glamour’s sake!

I personally can’t wait to hear my family laugh and sqeak when I start my annual competition to outshine the christmas tree, as a sucker for sparkles, I can’t wait to have a decent reason to look like a discoball on acid. So, just to get me in the mood I decorated a little today, popped some champagne in advance (glistening fluid: my best, where have you been for so long), and threw myself a little pre-christmas party, with the best attendees ever! Well, to me that looks all gorgeous. Bring on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is Youuuuuuuuu”. And by that I mean at least one more pair of glittering heels!

One pair of missing Jimmys and a real Cinderella story

One pair of missing Jimmys and a real Cinderella story

As we do every year, friends and I (aka a couple of heels) gathered to watch the Eurovision Songcontest, and gosh! This year's show was killing me! Originally from Austria but living in the Netherlands for such a long time now, watching the race between Austria’s Wurst-Princess and Dutch Ilse de Lange (in Claes Iversen and Jimmy Choo) was a nail-biting experience and the result almost blew me out of my own heels while bouncing through the living room in total delight.

It’s not only that Austria won. It’s the statement that won; about being bullied forever for being different and actually being an outcast but not being afraid to keep on going and believing. What a pleasure to see there was support for this statement throughout Europe, and how lovely to prove all disbelievers and negative thinkers wrong. Happy ending!

And Ilse! I think the only thing worse than coming second is that someone stole your Jimmys before the show (myself a firm believer that the right heel is always a lucky charm). But let’s toast to heels, great performances, being a tad different than everybody else, and always, ALWAYS believing in yourself whatever the odds. Tomorrow I will grow a beard.

Today’s shoes are not Jimmy Choo but glittery as such.
It's just only today that I found out that actually a friend of mine wrote the winning song.
A double win! Congratulations Conchita and Ali!

The Old Cow is the (hot) New Cow

The Old Cow is the (hot) New Cow

Lucky you if you're a treasure-keeping lady (aka never throw away anything that once found its way into your closet), because the cycle of fashion may be mysterious but it'll definitely repeat itself after a while. Before you know it, some almost forgotten “old cow” could become the new IT-piece again.

Things are no different when it comes to heels, not that you would EVER abandon one of the cuties you scored anyway (having sacrificed the savings of probably a whole month to get them). The shoe trend this season is all back to where we have been before: plateaus are minimized, heels are shrinking, and the pointy toe is back. Basically it’s all about literally “remaining on the ground”, a sophisticated turn which will be appreciated by all of you who cursed the day stripper heels found their way onto the runway (and therefor our feet). The old cow definitely is the new cow again, from (yes!) Jimmy Choo to Valentino, and the kitten heel the hottest piece to snatch up this season.

Actually, I envy those who are not owners of the cool old/new trend. What could be better than hunting down today’s Shoetation beauties anyway?

All Those Birds

All Those Birds

My family gave me the nickname "Bird of Paradise" years ago, and I have NO idea where that one came from. OK- maybe my glittery eyebrows (totally Chanel catwalk 2012) were a little much for the average rural Christmas eve in Bavaria, and next year I won't customize my cape with a hundred Xmas baubles for sure. But other than that?

I prefer to see myself more as a "chick" (the cool one, the one you want to be friends with), including my tendency to resemble like a chicken (aka the headless version). And although I was also once called "peacock" (who ever came up with that stupid game of comparing mammals to human characters?! - oh, was that me?) - today, of all birds, I just feel like a stuffed turkey.

In heels at least, the only way to conceal the 4000-6000 calories consumed. Must say it's quite exhausting, trying to keep balance and not tilt forwards. Oh well, perhaps I'll just give in and hang cosily in front of the fireplace and have another cookie like the rest of the family. Just some advice: whatever kind of "bird" you may be: don't come too close to fire. You might burn your feathers.
