Fashion week usually leaves me in a delightful fashion-coma for weeks afterwards: So much beautiful fashion to digest, so many trends to take in, inhaling inspiration with every fiber of a fashion addicted mind. In between champagne (excitement) and finger food (no time to eat otherwise) the adrenalin rush during this short time of frenzy is quite high - the fashion babble, interviews, outfit changes, burning feet due to running around, picture posing, people spotting: what a great circus to be part of!

I love every minute of it and have to thank 3 exceptional designers who made this year once again red carpet worthy (and 3 special pairs of heels to not let me down during all hasty sprints from one show to another). Please find my sketchbook of all the lovely ingredients for yet another unforgettable week above. I’m still in the clouds and want to keep on pretending that it’s o.k to jump around in evening gowns during day time, turning around for photographers (even if there are none) and keep on walking like there would be a red carpet everywhere.

Cold turkey now. Duh.

Since my ambitions to visit my dream-continent and aquaint it with a couple of my heels to more or less “rumble in the jungle” failed miserably, I found myself very “Out of Africa” indeed. Weeping over the missed chance to fly to Joburg I clung to books, pictures, music, films and anything else with some kind of African flair, plus most of the time I dressed like some escaped bush-native decorated like a christmas tree. The tribal version than. Freshly Ground (SA Afro-Fusion band) and Arno Carstens (SA singer) became my best friends while I daydreamed of being Meryl Streep, lounging with a glass of (South African) wine somewhere in the steppe, desperately awaiting my Robert Redford. A pity Robert never showed up and the steppe just turned out to be my couch. *deep deep sigh*

The only good thing to come from not making the trip: I spared some money, so was able to actually buy myself one of these African inspired high heels I have become so obsessed with. And I am now a pro in contemporary South African dance (aka moving wildly and uncoordinatedly, burning shit loads of calories). Ready for the next braai* bro!

If fate would have wanted it I would - by the time you are reading this - be cuddled in the seat of a KLM chair, fully excited to head to my favorite continent: Africa. I was invited by a sweet friend to join the crew “ISA” (aka “if seat available”) and the idea kept my busy and jittery for almost a week.

In the world of a shoe-maniac that of course means picking the right equipment for a three day trip (which is always five pairs of heels or more) to be ready for every occasion. Safari-heels, check (any kind of gladiators would look great in the wild), boots to make any ranger in a game park jealous, check- and just a thought, but would it be too tacky to pack the zebra-striped wedges too?
Needless to say, I called my designer friend as well to assemble the perfect African-inspired wardrobe to look great while lingering with a cocktail at the lodge’s pool. *sigh* All the above of course if fate had decided “ISA” and not “NSA-NNN” (aka “no seat available - na na nananaaa”).

So here I am, trying to make the best of the shattered idea I loved so much, ready to shout: TIA* bro, TIA! Although it will still mean “This is Amsterdam”!
