The laid back Cool

Laid back cool

Yes, I saw it coming. I was warned (fashion signs!), I was alarmed, I was prepared. Or actually, I was so not prepared to be tip-toeing (still in heels) around this summer's hottest trend, the *deep sigh*: advanced flat (aka grown up and pimped orthopaedic shoe).

When Heidi Klum came up with her first edition of crystallized Birkenstocks back in the 90s I could still turn a blind eye hoping that the lapse of taste would be temporary. And certainly I tried not to be blinded (aka totally eye and heel insulted) when I spotted certain creatures sporting the persistent “Adilette”, which already found its way into fashion magazines last season. Brrrrrrrrrr!

But what to do when flatforms are praised from Elle to Vogue as the new cool and promoted so fashionably? *Deep sigh again*: you try of course, even though for a heelalista this means lowering standards quite literally. Tricked everybody though because far away from home (nobody knows me) and on a boat (no heels allowed) everybody just thought I was so “laid back”. Now you delete that picture of me in flats from your long-term memory forever. This never happened and will just stay between you and me, OK?

On the road

I have been on the road for three days past weekend, supporting one of my favorite bands, the AdrianoBaTolba Orchestra. Eutin, our final destination might not be the sexiest place on earth (aka, it's in the middle of nowhere and you wonder if there is such thing as a fox and a hare to bid each other goodnight at all...), but it is THE place to be if you are working some Blues tunes.

And hell, they boys did! Above you find a little road map of all the destinations (four cities in three days, check!) and some favorite Rock 'n Roll heels that I packed. Despite I have to say: the only thing you really need, is a bunch of patches to cover your blisters from dancing and loads of stamina, because these guys not only can play: they can party like world champions as well.

Big X!

Pop of color

Pop of Color!

Almost every decent fashion blogger I know has at least one spring post that begins with the words: “It was such nice weather this weekend that I couldn’t resist matching my summery mood with the brightest colors in my closet.” Quite original right? Later in the year it will be all about how to sport white and how it’s such a fantastic contrast to your tan.... but who can blame them!

With the first flirty sun beams out, I caught myself (guess it’s a natural fashion instinct) removing all the spider-webs from my peep toe boxes, lovingly dusting yellow satin and “attention blue” leather, when some frenzy kicked in. All of a sudden the living room looked like some clowns had quite the swinger party and left without their clothes and heels (question to myself: do clowns wear heels?): but wow! How cheerful!

So here you have it: am coming out of the closet as well. As a sucker for the first pop of color of the year that is. Let’s wait until the sun has done it’s job and I have a nice tan shall we? I almost can’t wait to write about how gorgeously white pumps support summery glowing skin.

Being back

With Obama back to his duty (aka saving America), I am luckily able to switch back to my challenge as well: heels. And what could fit today's topic better than something else that keeps coming back (not talking legislation but fashion): the '80s. Maybe you are amongst those who SWORE never ever to go back and make the same fashion mistakes all over again (remember the perms, the shoulder pads, the legwarmers?), but HA: show me one gal (myself included) who hasn't worn leggings since then and didn't dream about that 2011 Balmain jacket with enormously exaggerated shoulders.

And now we have the pointed (white!) heel back in all shapes and variations. From Céline to Manolo and Jimmy Choo: there's a pair in almost every collection. Couldn't resist and had to try. Was astonished how well they work really, could wear them with almost everything in my closet (yes: the leggings too), and can't think of a single reason not to stock up on such a versatile item. Oh, besides that it's almost winter, which is bound to be wet and ugly and they'll never stay white for long.

Must confess am also tempted to get a perm again. And a boob job too, just to be able to say: Samantha Fox, watch out!

Golden Girl

Golden Girl

Another flamboyant icon has teamed up with H&M to give us a taste of international fashion flair (and in this particular case a lot of glamour) for a high street price: Anna dello Russo. Compared to whom I look like some Winnie the Pooh in heel-terms: she's the one storing her (over 4000 pair) heel collection in one apartment, and her designer outfits (wears nothing but.... ) in another (I can only hope they're not 200 m2 each otherwise I'd simply die from envy). So it's pretty obvious that her collection of accessories would be nothing short of: over the top indeed.

Internationally the whole gold shizzle whizzle sold out within half an hour (I suppose it was some rapper who snapped up all pieces at once), but the Dutch ladies were more suspicious. Overheard a conversation of two (very young) sisters wondering if the clutch was some kind of "cover" for...? (well: your lipstick and keys ladies, nothing more nothing less) and some gay stylists comparing the packaging to Louis XIV's wallpaper (-that's her signature guys, dig it). Sigh. Well, all I'm saying is: I like the booties (and the packaging, and a statement and gold in general): so why not be bold?

Enjoy being that golden girl: when designer Maison Martin Margiela will hit H&M in November we will all be back to (oversized) basics again.

Congratulations on winning the lottery!

Congratulations on winning the lottery!

I have been fantasizing about it forever, and I am sure so have you. Winning the lottery: oh dear! Don’t even get me started. What would you do with that huge amount of money which would allow you to live concern-less-ly ever after? I have spent countless nights and days working out the ultimate master plan.

Obviously, I will book the most expensive suite in a luxurious hotel and surprise boyfriend (I will look very dramatic and stylish when breaking the news). We will order vintage champagne and celebrate all night… In my case this means locking myself behind the computer and making net-a-porter run out of (shoe) stock for the first time in history, giggling when my (by then platinum) credit card literally burns. Then buy a huge house (furnished only with Italian brands, not Swedish), give money to my friends and family, invest the rest (in net-a-porter again), and travel the world.

And I can’t believe it!!!! Today is that very day.
I just received a letter from the national lottery office!
It’s embossed in gold and announces officially:

“Dear Mrs. Mueller!
We congratulate you on winning the Lottery.
Your voucher of 20 EUR can be redeemed at florist Günther.”

As you can see I am investing my fortune already: in gardening.

Marni-licious… NOT

Schöner Mann left, so it’s boyfriend and me again. Oh wait, correction: it’s boyfriend, me and... Marni of course!

Today is the launch of the collection for H&M, and although I skipped all other designer collaborations for the brand, I will not miss this one. The flower necklace, the A-line jacket, the comfy (looking) shoes: must have them all! Since I consider ordering online not as sporty as attending the event (I am curious: will I fight other woman over the dotted skirt? Will there be pulling of hair involved? Will my claws scratch faces to score the dress?), I set my alarm clock (first time this vacation!) to fight the fashion battle.Am so excited: by the end of the day I will look Marni-licious from tip to toe!

Chick on a mission I head “downtown” to Marni-Mekka but come across a gorgeous pair of high-heels in a window. I could have sworn they blinked at me.Or the “Sale” sign did, I don’t know, but all of the sudden I find it hard to decide. Standing in line for Marni label-loving glee, or score one-of-it’s-kind leopard beauties, that’s the question!

You have never seen anyone turn around so quickly dashing to buy herself a new pair of friends. Apparently I will look very Luciano Padovan-licious for quite some time.
