Lady in red

Lady in red

It was my B-day lately, and after celebrating in Milan (friends, champagne, heels), and Amsterdam (more friends, more champagne, heels), I thought I'd take the party to Belgium as well (you can guess with whom, can’t you?).

My designer friend Kim Siderius provided me with the most lovely dress (so red, so beautiful that every red carpet would turn green with envy), and all other gear to celebrate was as grown-up as I certainly feel now. As in: confetti, balloons, a decent swing, and whipped cream still does the job after all those years. Oh well, not to forget the odd pair of High Heels as well.

So after all that dancing, laughing, celebrating and high heeling, I may have checked into Betty Ford by the time you read this (I wonder if they do courses for heel and fun addicts?). But I can certainly tell you: I had the time of my life. Now off she dances in that red dress, humming:

“Lady in red is still dancing with the, (gorgeous heels),
There’s nobody here, it’s just me and the Gucci's,
It’s where I want to be,
Don't make me go (-dramatic “Oooo”, ) -ending this does not feel right,
but I’ll never forget the way I felt tonight.”

Today is yet another big day for BBFF (bestbitchfriendforever, and “bitch” in my vocabulary is reserved for the best gals - or best shoes- only...). After getting hitched and honeymooning in Morocco, my sweetie might as well get the sky highs out tonight again, celebrating TADAAAA:
30 years of being lovely.

Occupational duties will keep me from attending the event (*sob*sob*), but must pet my darling mentally at least: 30 is a huge thing for every lady so I thought some wisdom (from my humble experience in life - aka, am older bitch) might very well be shared.

Dear Nica!

Never leave the house naked (I mean it!).
Keep your head, your dreams and your heels high by any means and at all times.
Remember that no one can ruin your day without your permission, but if life is giving you lemons
anyway, keep asking politely where the fuck the additional Tequila and salt remains.

Play hard, play fair, play fabulous.
Don’t buy the biggest lie on earth: “When I get what I want, I’ll be happier”. This only counts if the thing you want comes with a red sole.
Believe in yourself no matter what: sometimes the majority only means that all the fools are on the same side. (Plus envy is a fat fake friend to gals with boobs AND brain).
Most importantly though: try to be an adult, but never ever grow up really.

You are one of a kind baby, please do not change for the next 30 years at all.
Keep it nice and dirty tonight. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY! Big Love!

Fog is hanging in big misty clouds and everybody is asleep. Everybody? No. One house is lit with tons of candles and you can hear people singing inside:

Happy Birthday to youuuuuuuuuuu,
I know you don't speak shoe,
don't fuss around like I do:
one of the million reasons I love youuuuuuuuuuuuu!

OK, that would be me singing, but with my sister's big day finally here (welcome to the Forty and Fabulous club!) and her having had a fridge full of bubbly installed in the living room (fantastic concept!) you can imagine coming up with some Pulitzer-worthy that rhymes is a bit of a long slur... eh, shot. We've been celebrating for three days now and am just incredibly happy to still be able to stand in my (incredible) high heels and to have gotten my lovely sis out of her average Birkenstock's (will mark today red in agenda) and straight into her Bruno Magli's. B-day-licious and am so proud of her! Very good reason to pop open another bottle of bubbly. (Don't worry, am not going to sing again).

Happy Birthday my sweet! Love you to bits!

Grew up super close to my 3 cousins, especially the eldest who lived with us during her studies. I very much believe that BB (beautiful Birgit) is responsible for my passion for fashion and styling: exploring (and secretly sneaking into) her wardrobe was my guilty pleasure, as was it to watch her and her sisters transform every weekend from natural beauties into Kim Wilde-kissed-by-Ziggy Stardust / exploded disco ball. Well, it was the eighties, and heavy make up and a perm were super chic.

BB’s lifestyle seemed so cool: going out until the morning (headache and aspirin the following day), guys queuing up to pick her up in fancy cars and am sure they all wanted to marry her. Yes, for me it was very clear: when I grew up I wanted to be just like her.

30 years later and celebrating her 50th birthday, BB is still some hot piece in heels (still love to sneak into her closet and wear her extraordinary stuff), and if that’s what I may become in ten years time, I only can say: bring it on babe! Happy Birthday Role Model!

Oh! Only one thing I have always ALWAYS regretted: Why, just why do you have to have a shoe size 42? Just imagine...

Today’s photo was taken by BB’s daughter, the lovely Nora Blaschke. I’m wearing her shoes instead. Hehe.

Half a year ago, totally unprepared, without any concept whatsoever (still dizzy from celebrating New Years Eve), I quickly arranged a picture with one of my lovelies (read heels), the leftovers from the night before (Moët obviously) and lots of party glitter: my first post.

I remember as if it were yesterday, sitting with my friends Mamma Ulli and Pappa Stefan earlier in 2011 to tell them about my idea to write an everyday blog about my heels, and what’s happening while wearing them. Without their encouraging words (“If anyone should do it, it’s you”, and “I would totally read it”) I would probably never have gotten my (amazing, but) lazy bum out of bed, in my shoes, and in front of a camera.

183 photos and stories later, I now have an editor (best editor I could ever wish for), an advertising company (Brandbridge, I love you!), busy working out my own website, blowing my mind with business ideas, and a photographer (who doesn’t know yet that he will be shooting me the upcoming weeks ). Not to mention every cool shoe store in town on speed dial.

And still: 182 (not counting today) heels waiting in my closet to be worn: 182 stories to go, written by life.
Reason enough to get the Guccis out and celebrate.
Happy (1|2 year) Birthday blog!
