The Pace Of Things

The Pace Of Things

Am up and running again, trying to catch up on all the things I missed out on while lying in bed wasting time. Which got me thinking about time. Two days in bed seemed like forever while almost a year of writing about shoes has simply flown by (366 days versus two: wow!). Why is it that champagne always evaporates immediately and camomile tea doesn't? Why is it that a whole night with precious people seems gone in a glimpse but a half hour business meeting simply crawls on and on like a turtle which you forgot to feed "speed" for lunch? And why, oh why is the moment gone so quickly when you try on some really "so out of your league" heels but can keep running endlessly in those old bargain flats?

Things we love always seem to go so fast and run so quickly (please note: GOING and RUNNING always implies proper heelwear too). All the other drag stuff seem endless (aka very "Crocs" - and I had to google that word because I don't even know how to spell it).

Guess that's just the pace of things. Am I still talking fever? Oh, that's gonna be gone in a split second.

I'm Very Gucci, How Are You?

Who would’ve thought that dedicating a year to high heels would be so much work? Living in Amsterdam and wearing everything but rubber boots is a challenge in itself (weather conditions! Cobblestones!). But apparently the blisters, ruined heels and self-imposed task of documenting everything (which admittedly has become a total addiction) weren’t enough for me. On top of it all, I just had to organize a heel sale too.

Needless to say, this kept me more than busy, not to mention sleep - and headless, for almost a week. First I blocked the entire hall and living room with 20 kilos of designer heels. Next I catalogued, priced, advertised, and caressed them (normal people would probably say "polished", but I think I’m past that). Did vaguely wonder: WHAT THE HEEL AM I DOING?!" when I found myself in a sea of shoes, shining soles and lovingly attaching homemade labels somewhere during the second night. Friends may have noticed I was slightly preoccupied; whenever they asked how I was doing, all I could reply was (variable): "Very Prada" or "Very Gucci". And finally, you, my lovely readers, may have noticed I forgot to put my own posts online twice this past week.... unforgivable and am very "Sergio Rossi"!

But with the big sale having taken place yesterday (thank you all for coming!), and now busy with the aftermath (everything in reverse) a question arises. May I be done high heeling for good?

You must be kidding me!

If you're a heel-alista, shoe-oholic, lable-freak, size 37 (that's a size 38 with your heel cut off and a size 36 with thick socks), and reader of my blog: this is your lucky day. Even more so if you're a bitch on a budget who has always dreamt of being able to enrich your closet with some Jimmy (Choo), Marc (Jacobs) or Gucci (Gucci!) heels, but have always left your local heel dealer with a tear in your eye: because aren't they soooooooooooo expensive?

Am offering 30 pairs of precious (think "Lord of the rings" - Golom's "Preeeeeciouuuusssss") heels: some of them worn (with love), some of them brand new, for a price which will not only make your feet happy but your wallet too. Brandnew Choo's for EUR 179? Yep. Prada's for EUR 75? So right. But how???

Well, am throwing a heel-party in Amsterdam and if all the above fits any kind of your heel-personality or attitude: you are more than welcome. Simply like http://www.facebook.com/EddaLovesHeels, and share (my VIP list, and your entrance ticket) on Facebook and mark the 4th of November (1-5pm) in your agenda. 30 pairs of shoes need to GO GO GO and right in your closet.

Spread the word, and stay tuned for updates (and location) on this very blog. Am SO excited!!!!

Fifty Shades of Crap

Fifty Shades of Crap

As a “Finalist for Best Romance” and with at least 5 girlfriends telling me that they never had more sex than while they were reading “Fifty Shades of Grey”, I couldn’t resist, and finally read the book. Bored out of my mind by page 150 (the book contains 514...phew), I think E.L. James should be spanked for putting this piece of misery out there, making 60.000 enthusiastic readers fantasize about doing groceries with silver balls in their privates, and wish they had signed up with their local SM community rather than the bowling club.

After the fiftieth time (no pun intended) of reading that main male “genital” (aka main character) is “cocking his head”,  the “inner goddess” of flushing counterpart Anastasia Steele is “frowning” (the book should actually be named fifty shades of pink), and her guilty SUBconscience is speaking up (to no avail whenever), I’m exhausted by the clichés stickily dripping from every single line I’m reading. Worst: Mr. Billionaire (aka walking-talking-spanking-wallet) does all the wrong presents: loads of “lube” (who needs a car, a blackberry or a computer) but no Loubies in sight at all!

Only one good thing about this piece of “literature”. Got my overknees out (totally appropriate to wear them while reading), and am utterly looking forward to surprising boyfriend tonight. Now just have to find the keys to those damn handcuffs....

BF rang me the other day. She’s single and excitedly told me about the new “pool” she has discovered to meet hot new guys. Forget the internet, and going to clubs never works anyway: apparently all you need to do these days is sign up for your local “friends of nature” climbing group.

Here they flock: trained, yummy, fresh meat (aka mountain men), and yeah, I get it: sport is always a way to connect (and secretly check out physique, you clever girl!). I was shocked to hear she had invested (for the good men cause) in 300EUR shoes though. As in heavy-duty hiking boots (!!!).

Am falling apart. Sweetie! Don’t you read my blog? This is so not how it works!
You must invest in the date not in the on-site inspection, OK? That’s where you pick your prey, afterwards you shine, right? Take today’s little Gucci-cuties (@Sale @Paul Warmer!): they will set you back much less than your 300 and will totally do the trick! You won’t be going for dinner with this sizzling potential lover in your mountain-hiking-boots, now will you? Please?

It’s heels baby, believe me! Invest in them and you will be climbing something rather more exciting than a mountain.

Happy Birthday blog!

Happy Birthday blog!

Half a year ago, totally unprepared, without any concept whatsoever (still dizzy from celebrating New Years Eve), I quickly arranged a picture with one of my lovelies (read heels), the leftovers from the night before (Moët obviously) and lots of party glitter: my first post.

I remember as if it were yesterday, sitting with my friends Mamma Ulli and Pappa Stefan earlier in 2011 to tell them about my idea to write an everyday blog about my heels, and what’s happening while wearing them. Without their encouraging words (“If anyone should do it, it’s you”, and “I would totally read it”) I would probably never have gotten my (amazing, but) lazy bum out of bed, in my shoes, and in front of a camera.

183 photos and stories later, I now have an editor (best editor I could ever wish for), an advertising company (Brandbridge, I love you!), busy working out my own website, blowing my mind with business ideas, and a photographer (who doesn’t know yet that he will be shooting me the upcoming weeks ). Not to mention every cool shoe store in town on speed dial.

And still: 182 (not counting today) heels waiting in my closet to be worn: 182 stories to go, written by life.
Reason enough to get the Guccis out and celebrate.
Happy (1|2 year) Birthday blog!
