A|W 2015 Lookbook: Beautiful Blacks

The best thing about September might be that you can indulge and dream about all the new season keypieces while it’s still warm, and you don’t have to bother how the hell you should pull off that sheer dress when it’s actually -5 degrees. I also always (!) kinda fall into a sort of color frenzy (The new red! The bright blue! The “why not” green!), secretly knowing that after a month of trying hard to twerk all that perky hues my mind (together with extremely slowed down bodily functions due to the COLD!!!) settles in a sort of achondroplasia (read: fashion hibernation) as well.

From that moment on, black will dominate my wardrobe, and socks and boots will become a staple while I’m already dreaming about Spring (and new sandals) yet to arrive. So why not safe all the hassle and focus on BLACK from the very beginning, even better when all the delicious trends come in a desaturated version anyway. Regardless the season: black will always stay the new pink, and to sport a little gothic chic this winter is anything but depressing (or in my case: laziness). Hope you have fun with my Lookbook!

How to: The Military trend

How to: The Military trend

Last week when picking up a friend from the airport (working huge black sunglasses and a Starbucks- mug only, it was wayyyyyyy to early) I spotted a guy in a full spring/summer-trend outfit. Excited and still half asleep, I kicked BF and whispered: “Look, that’s how you work the military trend!”. Needless to say that I pointed out at a soldier in his uniform who picked up his fiancé (my fashion brain totally tricked me) but what can I say: THIS GEAR IS HOT. Even hotter as it’s not only sported for survival reasons (*hut* hut* hut* through the mud) but on every runway this spring too.

Back home and fully awake now it gave inspiration enough to dive into my closet and get carried away by camouflage prints, muddy greens, and earthy hues. Now you have a reason to cherish chunky boots, rough knits and work all of it “tone on tone”. Key essentials for the look: pockets everywhere (to store lipstick, mirrors, diaries, scented candles and whatever we carry around), heavy belts, laced shoes and of course the inevitable navy-pattern. You probably all have the key items in your wardrobe already, so feel free to get spirited up & fire away (no pun intended) with my guide above. For all the others I can recommend a visit to your local army store: hot dudes spotting all included.

HAVE FUN!

Decided to do something special this month by featuring some of my most memorable blog experiences of 2014. This very first editorial is dedicated to all the seemingly impossible shooting locations and it describes my January mood: nothing is impossible if you are just stubborn enough to go for it.

So I found myself in the most ridiculous moments, battling extraordinary wind forces while shooting a (überprecious) designer gown which left me flashing underwear at 7 am in the morning in the Dutch dunes (sorry dear morning joggers, I didn’t mean to frighten you). Or freezing in a La Perla lace (!) dress in April on the beach. Anyone who has ever tried dancing in heels on sand please high five me now.

Shooting at 2000 meters above sea level was another moment where I thought: “stupid me, who is afraid of heights anyway?”. While digging out a 100 tiny pebble stones from under my heels I was cursing the idea (who did come up with that?!) of balancing on pointy rocks. Last but least I will never forget the moment a beardy woman won the Eurovision Song Contest, dancing the night away in bare enthusiasm.

May that be the spirit of the new year: it’s all possible as long as your footwear is not abandoning you and as long as you balance it out!

Big love!

Lady in red

It was my B-day lately, and after celebrating in Milan (friends, champagne, heels), and Amsterdam (more friends, more champagne, heels), I thought I'd take the party to Belgium as well (you can guess with whom, can’t you?).

My designer friend Kim Siderius provided me with the most lovely dress (so red, so beautiful that every red carpet would turn green with envy), and all other gear to celebrate was as grown-up as I certainly feel now. As in: confetti, balloons, a decent swing, and whipped cream still does the job after all those years. Oh well, not to forget the odd pair of High Heels as well.

So after all that dancing, laughing, celebrating and high heeling, I may have checked into Betty Ford by the time you read this (I wonder if they do courses for heel and fun addicts?). But I can certainly tell you: I had the time of my life. Now off she dances in that red dress, humming:

“Lady in red is still dancing with the, (gorgeous heels),
There’s nobody here, it’s just me and the Gucci's,
It’s where I want to be,
Don't make me go (-dramatic “Oooo”, ) -ending this does not feel right,
but I’ll never forget the way I felt tonight.”

Whenever in need of a special detox day is (very much appreciated after all the partying whilst celebrating Kingsday in the Netherlands) I head to the Dutch seaside to enjoy nature and get back in touch with the pure elements.

Just taking the heels out on a relaxing stroll (balancing like a clown on eggs in the soft and moist sand), feeling the gentle breeze of the Dutch wind (probably wind force 10) and wearing nothing but a lace dress to make sure the sun can gently caress your skin (which you won’t feel because the stiff breeze is almost blowing you out of your Guccis): what a great idea!

I assure you, you will feel absolutely sober and rejuvenated afterwards and definitely HOPE you never have to do this again, LOVE the idea of going home and cuddling in blankets, and have FAITH that one day, ONE day you’ll learn to dance on the beach in heels and not look like an idiot doing so. But well, detoxing is overrated anyway. Where’s the next party?

Love yourself!

Love Yourself!

“Look, look” best girlfriend squeals, pointing out some teeney-weeney red marks on her thighs: “These spider veins - hate them! Need to get rid of them. They're so hideous, I'll never wear a mini skirt again.” “Can’t stand the bags under my eyes” other friend recently revealed, hiding a hardly existent greyish shadow behind huge sunglasses. “So slacky and droopy, made appointment with “THE DOCTOR” already. Or shall I go for the face lift immediately?”

GIRLS! When did we become such experts in concentrating on our weak spots? Why do we spend so much time (armed with a magnifying mirror.... the devil indeed) obsessing over our flaws? Those veins - hardly visible - are just a tiny part of a pair of stunning legs, and no one is even likely to notice those 'bags' when they're attached to such a heart-warming smile.

A little more confidence ladies, and a little less unreal photoshop perfectionism would do us all a huge favour. Save that Dr. 90210 money and buy a lovely pair of super sexy incredible heels! That should help to distract even yourself, and give the ego the boost we all seem to need so desperately.

Oh. Me? I HATE my toes. High Heels make so much sense indeed! Love yourself!

My 10 year old nephew is visiting Amsterdam for the first time (a promise I gave to all four of my nephews, so expect an annual live report from now on), and I find myself in places I never experienced before, doing things I’d actually swore I'd never do.

Exchanged my Gucci, Prada, and vintage boutique city route to explore the Nemo museum (know how my left & right brain works right now - aka learned it’s the left one (logic) shutting down every time when it comes to buying shoes), climbed pirate-ships and dunes and visited the torture museum.

The last one actually made me think: all those medieval spikes and pricks to torture the poor victims until they confessed whatever... it would have been so easy to make them walk through a city all day long in 10 inches, carrying a “Pausenbrot”, 1 liter of fizzy drink, some exchange clothes, a kid’s kite, spare crocs(!), a set of ball game (Botscher), Asterix books and some other stuff kids need on an average day. Well, I guess it’s no pain no gain. And I might very well have my own torture museum (aka shoe closet) at home. Middle ages: you just got an upgrade.

Even they look like torture, they actually walk like heaven (for five minutes in a fancy restaurant then)

Today's picture was taken by my lovely sister in the Torture Museum Amsterdam (which btw is the worst designed museum I've ever been to)
