How to: THE DENIM GUIDE

How to: THE DENIM GUIDE

My 80ties nightmare is a pair of high-waist mommy jeans, worn with a perm to distract from the most unflattering ass ever. But that didn’t stop me from following the nineties denim trend with a stone washed carrot-shaped piece of navy fabric accompanied with the shoe-of-the-hour: jogging highs. (Brrrrrr!) Since then I have been a little careful following “denim trends” and it’s ambassadors (unforgettable: Britney Spears and Justin in a unisex tip-to-toe indigo combo), but this season there’s no way around it.

Denim is back as strong as its woven texture and if you invest smart, you will have at least four good reasons to buy some must-have shoes to complete the outfit du jour (which anyway is THE reason to follow a trend, don’t you agree?). Nothing wrong with a jumpsuit worn with a statement heel now (my favorite for a lazy day, no other styling needed!) or a cute little denim flowery skirt to channel your romantic side (peep toes, booties, sandals!). And although I will have to get used to the legitimate wear of flare jeans, I need a good reason to purchase clogs (back on the runway and hot!).

Best of it: you can mix & match all of the above because the greatest thing of any denim trend (throughout the years): it goes with everything!
HAVE FUN!

Packed to the max - (for safety reasons really: 22,7 kg only allows a shopping spree of 0,3 kg which definitely CAN’T be a new pair of heels) - I arrived in Bavaria last week as a living surpise for my lovely mother’s birthday. Although she surpised me really by arriving with a huge shoe box which had landed in her mail. Over hugs, kisses and champagne I could hardly wait to open MY present, which wasn't (unlike me) decorated with a huge red ribbon, but the content made me as happy as a child on Christmas morning.

Two delicate heels (oh, the smell of Italian leather gets me higher than bubbly), sent from übercool shoe store Shoetation (a must visit!): what bliss! Turned out that during the whole week I spent with my family (from long lunches in the city over visiting the country side and even climbing a mountain!) I didn’t even touch one of the heels I had brought. Today’s Gianni Marra’s are simply the perfect fit for all occasions: the perfect ladylike accessory, and they turned heads wherever I went (well, that counts especially when you're at 2.000 meters).

About that limit of 23 kg when travelling back.... well, shall we just not mention it at all?

Happy Birthday!

Fog is hanging in big misty clouds and everybody is asleep. Everybody? No. One house is lit with tons of candles and you can hear people singing inside:

Happy Birthday to youuuuuuuuuuu,
I know you don't speak shoe,
don't fuss around like I do:
one of the million reasons I love youuuuuuuuuuuuu!

OK, that would be me singing, but with my sister's big day finally here (welcome to the Forty and Fabulous club!) and her having had a fridge full of bubbly installed in the living room (fantastic concept!) you can imagine coming up with some Pulitzer-worthy that rhymes is a bit of a long slur... eh, shot. We've been celebrating for three days now and am just incredibly happy to still be able to stand in my (incredible) high heels and to have gotten my lovely sis out of her average Birkenstock's (will mark today red in agenda) and straight into her Bruno Magli's. B-day-licious and am so proud of her! Very good reason to pop open another bottle of bubbly. (Don't worry, am not going to sing again).

Happy Birthday my sweet! Love you to bits!

“I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse”! The famous quote from “The Godfather” has popped into my mind quite frequently this week.
Except you’d have to replace the “him” with a “her” (aka me) and the offer I can’t refuse has more to do with Aperol Spritz and prosciutto con melone at an indecent hour (read: right after breakfast) rather than money.

My family is not from the Mafia, but with Ton as our “Padre” it very much feels like a Sicilian Clan when we gather every evening at our huge wooden table that bends under the load of delicious food, juicy fruits and heavenly wine. And just like in the movies, the discussions are loud, lively, with lots of gestures and “i” endings (schnabuletti! wini! enjoy-i!) as you can’t help but develop a kind of Italian-Tourette being here (for the record: Prada will never be pronounced Prad-i).

Well, I guess there’s nothing left to say but (to use another “family” quote): “Leave the gun. Take the cannoli!”
Good appetit-i and PROST-I!
