The most crazy day in Holland is just around the corner and every year around this time the same inevitably questions arise. Where to celebrate? (Boat madness? Street madness? Private madness?) How to pull a decent Lindsay Lohan (aka party to the max) without checking into rehab afterwards? And how to sport the must-wear color of the day (orange) without looking like an escaped tropic bird on acid?

Kingsday may be the most frolicsome national event of the year, fashion wise it is a disaster. There is a reason why fashion designers never choose full orange-outfits on any runway EVER. The same goes for footwear, unless you are a sneaker or Crocs person. Dancing, cheering, running around with 800.000 party companions soaking in all the madness will have it’s toll on your outfit (beer showers, canal water, probably rain this year) and your feet (toes stepped on, blisters, scattered glass) so you better be prepared.

I always opt for some cheerful comfy layers and some heels I won’t regret ruining (although NO heel deserves such a cruel fate), wearing a smile on top of everything and making sure my glass (=most important accessoire) is never empty. Then just go with the flow and enjoy to the max. No one ever will be excused wearing bright orange trousers with a tiger print in public on any other day. Be that tropic bird for once and HAVE FUN!!!

Fashion is all about color, texture, structure and shape (and the mixture of it) so I guess it’s fair enough to say that- while the fashion circus went to Italy, I had my own (not so fashionable, but still) fabulous moments of color, texture, structure and shape while relaxing a week in France.

The combination of a bright blue sky with a quirky composition of pink and orange -the only heel I brought along- (that’s a lie of course but you figured that out already I suppose...) will simply never get out of style: Colors of joy!

Then add the texture of a a calm silky swimming pool in front of you, a crispy beach towel beneath you and a sip of Campari melting in your mouth. Combined with the structure of meadow moistened with dew - which makes it actually impossible to wear any heel (it’s a holiday after all) and accessorized with some fun plastic devices (I predict a comeback in summer 2015) and you are... well, in France on the set of my very own fashionable moment of the week.

About the shape: well, actually it was all about sabotaging shape (body wise, you know what I mean). But who can say no to saucisson de Lyon (the best!), French cheeses and pâté, croissants, fresh baguette and way too much red wine. But hello: as long as I can balance myself on 12 inches still..... who cares! Au revoir!

I put “Best editor I could ever wish for” through quite a lot. Not only am I late with my text almost every day, I might also change it a 100 times, send hysterical text message about it afterwards, and worst: diss her UGGS  officially in posts (must say this very one was not about HER Uggs specifically though…..).
Totally got it: she deserved a holiday. She told me she’d be away for two weeks. Two weeks! How could me and my spelling possibly survive without her?
But here it is, why you have to understand she’s the best editor I could ever wish for: even while strawling the streets and art scene of Berlin, she managed to correct my attempt to win the Pulitzer every single day. That, and send me excited text messages about buying her first pair of Sergio Rossi boots (almost died so proud).

Being away, she totally missed our half year blog-anniversary, which I had planned to celebrate with the two of us: big time. It’s only because my mom also reads the blog that I am sitting in one of Amsterdam’s most fancy restaurants (uninhibited dancing on bar later is not excluded) where I intend to spoil my better (blog-) half - belatedly but tonight. Girls’ night out, limitless champagne, personal driver, accompanied by Sergio and Camilla: can’t wait!

But pssssssssst! Don’t tell editor…..it’s all about the surprise!

Dear Mom!

I am in a small fishing village in France. It’s somewhere on the French coast, but not as well-known as its big sisters Nice and St. Tropez.
Therefore it’s very calm and quiet. There are barely people, tourists or any other disturbing matters to interrupt a relaxing holiday.
I sleep well (four hours average), the food is extraordinary (mainly liquid), and the weather couldn’t be any more perfect (not that I’ve seen any sun before sunrise yet). Everyone is very welcoming and friendly, the locals have been nothing but nice to us.

Please give my regards to Uncle Dr. Schulz…. didn’t he just open a practice for emergency rescue?
He might have a new client soon.

Yours dearly
