In bed with Fersengold

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE hanging in bed. And sleeping in. And watching movies cuddled in blankets (and socks on the odd occasion). What I do NOT like, is being forced to stay in bed because some boring, annoying bug decides to strike you down. Which is exactly what happened, well, last week (and NIGHTMARE: during the Emmies). All the Superfoods in the world (thank you Spirulina, I quit our friendship) didn’t prevent the ultimate physical meltdown (if I’m not in the mood to wear heels, I know it’s really serious).

Thankfully I have the best friends ever, always by my side, even when I’m a snotty mess, going nowhere, waiting patiently until the overdose of vitamins taken (or overdose of Vogue issues consumed) kicks in and I’m all ready to get goofy again. Glad to say that this way getting on the mend never takes long really, which is an utter blessing, so I can't overdosed on old Magnum episodes ever again.

Might take some time now until I’m recovering from the nightmares about 80's pointy-toe heels though. That, and calling Boyfriend "Higgens" continuously. So off againg (my excuses): have to dash to see the re-run of the Emmies.

Boyfriend was invited to DJ in the royal city of (brit) pop and of course the cheeky girlfriend (me) was eager to pop by too to swing some bootie and heels.

I hadn't been in London for over 15 years (I suppose shopping British designers online doesn't count as a proper “visit”...) so I was eager to see how the city has changed. To be safe for all occasions (high tea to high street), I packed five pairs of heels for three days: you simply never know when the Queen might call and you have to drop by to say hi.

Luckily she didn’t because I was way too busy squeezing in that audience at Selfridges, Shoreditch Vintage heaven, the spectacular collaboration of United Nude with 3D wizard Janne Kyttanen at Regent Street, write some postcards to my mom and not to forget: play groupie for my man.

For sure one thing hasn't changed throughout all the years: seeing the sun rise on the way home from the latest club, plus the urgent feeling to come back very VERY soon to this stunning city.

London, I love you!

Considering heels best friends (hard to find, precious to maintain), it’s no wonder that once you stumble across a brand which will accompany you in good or bad times (aka mood for stunning high heels or humble flats), you've found a partner for life. I’ve kissed a lot of princes / inches and almost broken my feet (and bank account) to impress before I found a brand that is all you can ever ask for in a shoe.

Perfect fit and stunning appearance rank first, followed by comfort (nothing more unsexy than having to get rid of a hurting heel in the middle of a party), but it’s also the craftmanship, the eye for detail plus timeless design which makes a shoe/boot/heel not only a one night love affair but a keeper for life.

I’m so grateful to have been introduced to Safinaz Baylav who’s must-have brand Fersengold resembles only the best of the above and made so many wonderful posts in 2013 possible. All my ten toes are nodding in agreement (cheering and clapping and all) when I say THANK YOU FERSENGOLD for a lovely year. Keep the stunners coming! 2014 is just getting started to write more heel-fairytales!

If you've been following this blog for a while, you've surely picked up on the fact that heels are almost like human beings (aka big personalities) in my book. I don’t want mediocre, I don’t fancy subtle. I like outspoken, and statement. And - of course there must be a spark. And comfort. I know,- I know, quite the drama queen.

But so are my heels, and - believe me - they are so much more sensitive than moi. They get all grumpy with me when being walked all night long and, NO, they do no fancy unstable ground (“ah-ah- can’t do it...”), they get pissed off and punish me with sore feet and red marks when I “abuse” them dancing a night away - and one thing's for sure: they do not want to be touched (or worn for that matter) by anyone but me.

No one? Really. You should have seen today’s cuties go all subtle and soft (aka am too clumsy to close zipper) under the magic hands of my friend Connie after just one treatment. Truly a (shoe) maid of honor. Sneaky little bastards.

Whenever back in Vienna, the town where not only moi, but also the idea to write a shoe-blog was born -I fall in love with it all over again. Am totally aware that the grass to walk your high heels on always seems greener on the other side (or other location), but damn this city is gorgeous! The space! The gorgeous old houses would fit my entire Amsterdam home (shoe room included) in their pompous lobbies alone. The culinary temptations that have me nibbling on green salad weeks before departure. OK, that’s a lie: I totally should though, everything here is so (!) yummy, that I’m afraid of having to pay extra for excess luggage (no, not that pair of shoes too many, those 100.000 calories too many).

But maybe, MAYBE it's the fact that the most charming shoesalon is located just here - a place where I always feel at home, delighted by the shoe pep talk between experts (the owner Harald Lex is probably the only straight guy I know who speaks “shoe” fluently), surrounded by beautiful High Heels who all seem to beg “Take me, Take me”. I always walk out with a smile ...and that certain shopping bag filled with leather cuties obviously.

Ah, am loving it! Now off for the fattening part.

The cold season can come down pretty darn hard on us gals, and it’s not only the unwillingness to get properly dressed (aka put some nice heel gear on when it’s cold and wet and getting dark at a time that we usually started sipping Rosé). It’s the indecent amount of chocolate and red wine we crave now - building up fat reserves (now hidden in comfy sweaters and layers of clothes) - which will surely be regretted 4 months later. We start knitting beanies and shawls on Saturday nights where we used to have fun in our local bar, and pedicures? - I don’t even know how to spell that word properly anymore now that my toes have lost any exhibitionism due to the lack of open stilettos.

Well, well: it’s autumn no doubt, BUT! There are booties out there ladies, in luxury leathers, embellished and designed with so much love and effort that it feels easy to put on that matching sequin (mini) skirt, defying the urge to stay home on the couch and take an online course in “how to: Origami butterflies" to at least feel reminded of spring.

Hell yeah, I just released the whole collection I crafted lately to the wild. Might be because I have them already shining on my marvellous boots. See ya out there!

Amsterdam Dance Event was in full swing last weekend, and invite after invite poured in to dance across the city. I had decided to take a detour to mayhem though and rocked my babies at an entirely different event: the parquet flooring of an exclusive charity dinner.

The decision was probably a little bit selfish as my new favourite heels definitely deserve to be danced to the tunes of some fancy DJ: they walk and dance like a dream! But couldn’t help think that I'd have more opportunities to marvel at the beauties (below the desk) while picking mushrooms from china, rather than causing myself a hernia trying to move vividly to techno and glance down at the same time.

Chose the James Bond setting and cocktails, but - excuse me - of course I danced too. You don't refuse when 007 (aka fundraising CEO, aka Schöner Mann) asks for a waltz.

Just give a girl the right shoes, and she can dance the world, whatever the occasion.
