Fashion week usually leaves me in a delightful fashion-coma for weeks afterwards: So much beautiful fashion to digest, so many trends to take in, inhaling inspiration with every fiber of a fashion addicted mind. In between champagne (excitement) and finger food (no time to eat otherwise) the adrenalin rush during this short time of frenzy is quite high - the fashion babble, interviews, outfit changes, burning feet due to running around, picture posing, people spotting: what a great circus to be part of!

I love every minute of it and have to thank 3 exceptional designers who made this year once again red carpet worthy (and 3 special pairs of heels to not let me down during all hasty sprints from one show to another). Please find my sketchbook of all the lovely ingredients for yet another unforgettable week above. I’m still in the clouds and want to keep on pretending that it’s o.k to jump around in evening gowns during day time, turning around for photographers (even if there are none) and keep on walking like there would be a red carpet everywhere.

Cold turkey now. Duh.

Fashion and “seasons” work in mysterious ways. While the hard core fashionistas are just now busy following Mamma Wintours footsteps streaming summer collections for next year, the average shopping gal must accustom to windows filled with pullovers and quilted trousers (not to forget this winters ultra heavy boots) while temperatures still scream mini skirt (well, sort of: as always the Netherlands might be an exception).

When new seasonal items hit fashion mag’s they have been shot half a year in advance (aka, aren’t they sooooo 6month ago?) and by the time I will have starved myself long enough to make that Dolce and Gabbana fairytale coat (a|w 2014) or that GORGEOUS fringed Brian Atwood boot (*sigh*) my own all snow of 2015 might have melted and I might consider a bikini wax again.

But have to admit it has its charm lounging somewhere warm, armed with the bible (read: Vogues Collection of the entire upcoming winter fashion) and getting all inspired what key items to stock for the cold days. Well, maybe my anticipation went a little too far though. Wearing woolen socks at 30degrees put my toes in kind of a pre-fall sweaty coma. Might have to buy that fringe boots to make up with them again.

Fashion Week Fierce | BYBROWN

Fashion Week Fierce | BYBROWN

Tall, sleek, city amazons are walking down the catwalk, transparent silk flattering their bodies, while exaggerated shoulders make their way down the aisle to pushy beats. It’s the debut of Melanie Brown’s relaunched label BYBROWN at Amsterdam fashion week, leading the selected fashion crowd to frantic applause.

Inspired by water and its restless molecules, Melanie surprised by combining materials such as lyocell bamboo, cork, leather and silk to artfully create a fierce yet feminine silhouette for the modern city woman.

Having been a fan of her work for years, I couldn’t be more proud to attend the show wearing an earlier creation of my designer friend: a couture dream of four layers of different fabrics, showing her craftmanship and eye for detail. Though I feel like a romantic princess and never want to take a step out of my gorgeous gown again, I am now eager to express my inner warrior. Ready to channel the new look of perfect asymmetry (how is it possible!), throwing on the exceptional cape/raincoat and off I will go as the strong fashion combatant pictured. Congratulations Melanie!

About today’s heels: shoe it!
With this kind of stunning outfit we will leave all credits to the dress won’t we?

When two rising stars on the fashion firmament happen to circulate the same orbit, a supernova is to be expected. In the most subtle, elegant and pleasant way imaginable though. Esther Dorhout Mees (“Garments are emotion”) enchanted the catwalk of fashion week this spring with a collection entirely inspired by wood: vulnerable yet strong, like branches in the wind.

Her floaty, silky creations (a dream to wear!) were accompanied by stunning accessories (yes! bark of a tree as a belt) and shoes fresh out of the 3D printer of designer wizzard Janne Kytannen.

Nothing more and nothing less could have got me out of bed on a Sunday morning, walking couture in the dunes of Holland at a chilled wind force ten, with the most happiest fashion smile on my face. Now the only thing missing is some kind of Leonardo Di Caprio embracing me from behind so that I can shout out loudly “I’m the king of the (couture) world”.

Don’t really know where the idea comes from that January is a quiet month. First of all there's a hangover from New Years Eve to cure (hammers in your head are everything BUT quiet), so it all starts with a “bang” quite literally. Then there are all the new year resolutions which keep you busy to NOT maintain. And believe me, a bad conscience is never really silent too.

Before you know it, final SALE has started everywhere (RUSH!), award season is in full swing (sleepless nights watching red carpet events on telly), and fashion week internationally tingles your fashion brain from New York to Paris and back (no rest for the wicked). Shew. I wanna be everywhere, soak everything in and “outsh” look pretty in heels by all means at all times, when my toes are screaming (not very demurely) out loud for flats and comfy wear.

Hope no one is going to bother me during the nap I am about to take. Totally “Sleeping beauty” style- a 100 years appreciated. Princes to kiss me awake, please queue up here.

While the fashion crowd has moved from NYC to London (Fashion Week!) I find myself having spent the last 24 hours travelling as well: from the North of Italy to the North of Holland. Hippolytushoef to be precise, the place where boyfriend grew up, which counts 3.000 souls and double that in sheep.
It is as peaceful here as it was the previous week on holiday, except Italy would be a voluptuous, enormously big-breasted Mamma (the Alps, the Alps!) and Holland a flat-chested teenager (not a hill in sight).

"Hippo" is the place where people don't even know what "Hunters" are (this would totally be the place to wear them, even though there are no Rockstars nor Festivals anywhere near...) but wear typical Dutch clogs for gardening (and am afraid for grocery shopping as well...). Very fashionable indeed.

But hey. After 3 glasses of port with MIL (mother in law... well: to be) on the porch, sitting in the sun surrounded by her beautiful flowers, apple trees and herb garden, I'm sold and ditch the Italian leather for the wooden shoes. Welcome to the jet set life. Ergh.... almost.

There are a lot of really exciting things coming up. Other than business meetings (lately ending, not very fashionably, with fire alarms and me fleeing the scene), I have a shoot coming up (photographer-to-be became photographer-to-be-the-one) and am very excited and curious to see how it goes (not to mention a little nervous). Fashion week is almost here and with the ticket frenzy having begun long ago, the only question that remains (besides getting a ticket at all) is whether I’ll be sitting front row or not.

For both occasions outfits need to be chosen, hairdressers bothered, heels polished and not having signed up for Weight Watchers earlier this year regretted.

And what am I doing the first day in weeks I actually have some spare time? Like… really? Am afraid the fashionable (heel) life starts with being able to at least walk IN to the walk-in closet without being attacked by dust and scattered clothes (that seem to have developed a life of their own).
So a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do……

Wonder if moving wildly to David Bowies “Let’s dance” with a vacuum cleaner could be falsely interpreted.
Pole dancing anyone?
