On the road

On the road

I have been on the road for three days past weekend, supporting one of my favorite bands, the AdrianoBaTolba Orchestra. Eutin, our final destination might not be the sexiest place on earth (aka, it's in the middle of nowhere and you wonder if there is such thing as a fox and a hare to bid each other goodnight at all...), but it is THE place to be if you are working some Blues tunes.

And hell, they boys did! Above you find a little road map of all the destinations (four cities in three days, check!) and some favorite Rock 'n Roll heels that I packed. Despite I have to say: the only thing you really need, is a bunch of patches to cover your blisters from dancing and loads of stamina, because these guys not only can play: they can party like world champions as well.

Big X!

Fashion and “seasons” work in mysterious ways. While the hard core fashionistas are just now busy following Mamma Wintours footsteps streaming summer collections for next year, the average shopping gal must accustom to windows filled with pullovers and quilted trousers (not to forget this winters ultra heavy boots) while temperatures still scream mini skirt (well, sort of: as always the Netherlands might be an exception).

When new seasonal items hit fashion mag’s they have been shot half a year in advance (aka, aren’t they sooooo 6month ago?) and by the time I will have starved myself long enough to make that Dolce and Gabbana fairytale coat (a|w 2014) or that GORGEOUS fringed Brian Atwood boot (*sigh*) my own all snow of 2015 might have melted and I might consider a bikini wax again.

But have to admit it has its charm lounging somewhere warm, armed with the bible (read: Vogues Collection of the entire upcoming winter fashion) and getting all inspired what key items to stock for the cold days. Well, maybe my anticipation went a little too far though. Wearing woolen socks at 30degrees put my toes in kind of a pre-fall sweaty coma. Might have to buy that fringe boots to make up with them again.

Along Came a Camera Team

Am still trying to figure out why the appearance of a camera and two cute guys in your bedroom (in my case) turn a grown woman into a giggling teenager with verbal diarrhoea. No, no - it's not what you think: am talking about the long expected and highly appreciated arrival of the guys filming house and shoe closet (plus unfortunately me talking). Seems that I caught some kind of fashion-brand-Tourette's whenever I opened my mouth (Gucci! Prada! YSL!) and before I have to X-rate the whole drama myself (aka not tell anybody that it aired) here's my wishlist for editing.

Dear Ciaran!
Please don't let anybody know that I said that "everything with boobs attached has a thing for heels". It might be only me.
I would also appreciate if nobody else ever finds out that I stopped drinking expensive coffee to save money (for...well.... you take an educated guess). "Hihi" number 499 and "giggle" number 276 can be cut out too. And although I'm truly excited about fashion, retrospectively it might have been a little too dramatic to throw arms theatrically while shouting "I love fashion!" straight into the camera. Maybe you can leave that out as well? That, and all the other awkward moments that made me wish "silent film" would be on trend again. Just a thought...

Otherwise you're very welcome to change the program title from "Breakfast in bed" to "Gone is the brain".

Thank you in advance,
sincerely your shoe-aholic

Who would’ve thought that dedicating a year to high heels would be so much work? Living in Amsterdam and wearing everything but rubber boots is a challenge in itself (weather conditions! Cobblestones!). But apparently the blisters, ruined heels and self-imposed task of documenting everything (which admittedly has become a total addiction) weren’t enough for me. On top of it all, I just had to organize a heel sale too.

Needless to say, this kept me more than busy, not to mention sleep - and headless, for almost a week. First I blocked the entire hall and living room with 20 kilos of designer heels. Next I catalogued, priced, advertised, and caressed them (normal people would probably say "polished", but I think I’m past that). Did vaguely wonder: WHAT THE HEEL AM I DOING?!" when I found myself in a sea of shoes, shining soles and lovingly attaching homemade labels somewhere during the second night. Friends may have noticed I was slightly preoccupied; whenever they asked how I was doing, all I could reply was (variable): "Very Prada" or "Very Gucci". And finally, you, my lovely readers, may have noticed I forgot to put my own posts online twice this past week.... unforgivable and am very "Sergio Rossi"!

But with the big sale having taken place yesterday (thank you all for coming!), and now busy with the aftermath (everything in reverse) a question arises. May I be done high heeling for good?

You must be kidding me!

Pizza, Pasta and Arrivederci!

Pizza, Pasta and Arrivederci!

Be honest. How many great Spanish designers do you know? Quickly now, quickly! None? OK. Favorite Spanish dish apart from tapas and paella (cojones do not count!)? Hmmmm. One more: favorite Spanish drink apart from sangria that doesn’t give you a headache? Yeah. There you go.

But soccer, SOCCER the Spanish can play, causing more than a headache for everyone supporting Italy yesterday: a meltdown.
Gathered with a whole crowd, watching the game, having Heineken (uuuups Dutch) and supporting favorite team shoe-wise (Italian flag anyone: what comes first: green stripe ore red?) obviously didn’t help in getting Balotelli and Co “al arrabiata” rather then “al dente”.

Have never seen so many Vespas on my way home looking really sad.
And my shoes (bought in Rome back then and pulled out of the closet especially) within 94 minutes somehow shrank from a size 7 (read great expectations) to……zero.

So, may I just quote my friend Laura on this: The Italians should stick to what they do best: pizza, pasta, wine, fashion and shoes. (OK, added the last two myself….. :-)
But fair enough: Corso Como, Linguini, Stefano and Domenico, Barolo - you will remain my number one anyway. In lifestyle. Arrivederci!

Cheap thrills

Walk-in closet is almost bursting… have been doing a great job over the years of collecting not only shoes, but apparently every single piece of clothing I have worn (or mostly even: haven’t worn). I need to store everything in boxes, in which I never seem able to find anything, so all the beauties are sleeping, waiting to get out one day.

Well, this very day will be tomorrow.

Have decided to drag myself - in flats (eish!) - and man a stand at the IJhallen flea market (Amsterdam Noord) for the day. The perfect way to make room in my house, and other gals happy with cheap thrills. We’re talking (weren’t that cheap back then) Dior (limited pieces), YSL (one piece) and a lot of unworn Mango, Zara etc.
As we speak, I’m busy separating Designer from High street items.

Hmmm, shall I really get rid of my Escada suit? Worn once, needs to go (heart bleeding). The Armani blouse then, keep, keep, keep, *sigh* must go too.
And my *sobb* Dolce & Gabbana trousers (way too big, why did I buy it in the first place?)……. *sobb*sobb*.
Need Prosecco immediately to wash down pain of parting (Am secretly holding aside never worn Marc Jacobs skirt and Jonathan Saunders dress though… or should I…….). Never mind. If you are curious and up for scoring some cool “new” things you all must come: will be selling shoes too!
