I loved the idea

I loved the idea

If fate would have wanted it I would - by the time you are reading this - be cuddled in the seat of a KLM chair, fully excited to head to my favorite continent: Africa. I was invited by a sweet friend to join the crew “ISA” (aka “if seat available”) and the idea kept my busy and jittery for almost a week.

In the world of a shoe-maniac that of course means picking the right equipment for a three day trip (which is always five pairs of heels or more) to be ready for every occasion. Safari-heels, check (any kind of gladiators would look great in the wild), boots to make any ranger in a game park jealous, check- and just a thought, but would it be too tacky to pack the zebra-striped wedges too?
Needless to say, I called my designer friend as well to assemble the perfect African-inspired wardrobe to look great while lingering with a cocktail at the lodge’s pool. *sigh* All the above of course if fate had decided “ISA” and not “NSA-NNN” (aka “no seat available - na na nananaaa”).

So here I am, trying to make the best of the shattered idea I loved so much, ready to shout: TIA* bro, TIA! Although it will still mean “This is Amsterdam”!

Amsterdam is full of little shopping gems. Tucked away from the mainstream shopping paths (where you know what to find and expect), they pop up in side streets or hidden basements and you are just lucky to find them. My friend Amber runs such a place. With the heritage of a mother "Yosha" (her place is named after her) who styled the Beatles (yes, THE Beatles!!!!) and being a talented designer herself: it's always a pleasure to pop by and feed my inner fashion nerd (always hungry!), exploring new and unexpected things that are nowhere else to be found.

Of course am here for a reason (no, no, won't get distracted by the beautiful glittery clothes, the sparkling jewellery, the exciting accessories): heels. With shoe designer Flavia Stoian, Amber has just expanded her range of "whatever makes a gal happy" with the thing which makes ME most happy. And how lovely all those booties and heels are! Slouchy, thin Italian leather, comfortable fit, and heels that will make Amsterdam's cobblestones blush in shame for not providing a more comfortable walk.

Am so in love with everything (above all the inspiring girl-chat with Amber and designer Kim Siderius), but as time is running short only one thing for sure: I have to come back. There are just too many beautiful things waiting.

Another flamboyant icon has teamed up with H&M to give us a taste of international fashion flair (and in this particular case a lot of glamour) for a high street price: Anna dello Russo. Compared to whom I look like some Winnie the Pooh in heel-terms: she's the one storing her (over 4000 pair) heel collection in one apartment, and her designer outfits (wears nothing but.... ) in another (I can only hope they're not 200 m2 each otherwise I'd simply die from envy). So it's pretty obvious that her collection of accessories would be nothing short of: over the top indeed.

Internationally the whole gold shizzle whizzle sold out within half an hour (I suppose it was some rapper who snapped up all pieces at once), but the Dutch ladies were more suspicious. Overheard a conversation of two (very young) sisters wondering if the clutch was some kind of "cover" for...? (well: your lipstick and keys ladies, nothing more nothing less) and some gay stylists comparing the packaging to Louis XIV's wallpaper (-that's her signature guys, dig it). Sigh. Well, all I'm saying is: I like the booties (and the packaging, and a statement and gold in general): so why not be bold?

Enjoy being that golden girl: when designer Maison Martin Margiela will hit H&M in November we will all be back to (oversized) basics again.

Had to come to the conclusion that editor is actually a cat. Or, therefore, catwoman.
After almost purring over the delicious food at Jasper’s (dammit, so glad I don’t use swear words: their oysters in coconut sauce are to die for!!!!!), we realized we’d eaten a monthly amount of calories (yeah: limoncello included) in three hours.

After feasting our way through carbs and cheese, a strategy for today is very much needed (how to miraculously loose a stone over night) as we will be hitting the grande finale of the Amsterdam Fashion Week: Edwin Oudshoorn’s catwalkshow. The last time I saw the designer, we were dancing wildly to rock’n roll tunes, so expect nothing less than a show that will sweep us off our feet (and out of our heels).

Catwoman has it all figured out: she will be wearing a dress by the designer himself (always works), and luckily my oversized Melanie Brown jacket will hide 5 star 3 course meal most elegantly. My attempt to copy my friend Heleen’s perfect blow dry failed miserably though. Now look like a cat myself. An exploded Persian that is.

Am wondering if wearing an umbrella as a hairpiece (to hide drama) is permitted front row..

It’s Friday the 13th (again…it’s the third but luckily also the last one this year) but rather than looking out for black cats crossing the street, am looking forward to see one of my favorite designers today: Melanie Brown.
Even when weather god is not acting in my favor, fashion god is: am allowed to pick an outfit of hers for fashion week. Am so excited!
With my mission: “When sun won’t shine, I will” in mind, I hit her studio in the Hazenstraat feeling very much the celebrity, trying on especially customized and truly unique couture dresses. Am also totally in awe of her winter collection: it’s all about layers and refined possibilities of combining and wearing clothes in a variety of ways, and includes a leather T as soft as butter that she designed for …ha, must have been me! Would die for it (or rather….stop buying shoes and start saving money now)!

Over tea (Melanie is such a charming Brit) we chat about details and vision of her work before browsing her SS collection 2013 which I will be allowed to wear. Did I just say SS 2013??? Feel very Agyness Deyn and utterly privileged. Time flies with this lovely lady, who couldn’t be more passionate about her work and I am eager to take today’s picture.

Heading home with a (not so fashionable, but smelling gorgeous) take-out chicken for dinner on one side of my bike, a bag of couture clothes on the other and a festival to go to later on (see you in boots), I think Friday the 13th is just my lucky day.
