Get me in the mood!

Get me in the mood!

Despite the lack of snow, and general Christmas feeling (yet)...when you hear the first tunes of Mariah Carey yodeling to the jingling sound of bells it’s time to run and undust the sequin dresses, polish the über-big jewellery and put any modesty on hold. It’s December for glamour’s sake, the most sparkling month of the year, and everything normally considered “over the top” or “too much” is now dearly welcome.

A million things to do and organize before the big event but in my mind I already started the annual competition how to outshine the christmas tree, as in sparkling heels and a kitsch outfit (Christmas jumper anyone?). Well, at least once a year it's appreciated to look like a disco ball on acid.

So, just to get me in the mood I decorated a little this weekend, popped some champagne in advance (glistening fluid: my best, where have you been for so long), and threw myself a little pre-christmas party, with the best attendees ever. Finally a reason to bring all shiny shoes on one table! You can bring on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is Youuuuuuuuu”on repeat now, I’m sure that song was written for yet another pair of gorgeous heels.

It’s the most glamorous month of the year, and everything normally considered “over the top” or “too much” is not only appreciated, it’s a must. When you hear the first tunes of Mariah Carey yodeling to the jingling sound of bells it’s time to run and undust the sequin dresses, polish the über-big jewellery and put any modesty on hold: it’s December for glamour’s sake!

I personally can’t wait to hear my family laugh and sqeak when I start my annual competition to outshine the christmas tree, as a sucker for sparkles, I can’t wait to have a decent reason to look like a discoball on acid. So, just to get me in the mood I decorated a little today, popped some champagne in advance (glistening fluid: my best, where have you been for so long), and threw myself a little pre-christmas party, with the best attendees ever! Well, to me that looks all gorgeous. Bring on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is Youuuuuuuuu”. And by that I mean at least one more pair of glittering heels!

Weekend!

Weekend!

Have been working like a maniac this week and almost fell asleep between attempts to decorate house (note: Christmas baubles are not very comfortable to lie on) and computer (another note: keyboards are not either). Am already quite certain there won't be enough days in the weekend to recover (or squeeze the work in which still needs to be done). And did I mention that I have scored zero Christmas presents so far (so I'll be one of the billion people downtown tomorrow morning), and am just adding "to do's" to my lists rather than scratching them off.

Don't know why time is running so fast towards the end of the year now. Am very tempted to hand it over some of my most-impossible-to-run-in-heels, just to slow it down a little, but afraid this won't help. Only advice I have left to slow things down and stretch the moment a little: pick some good friends (read extraordinary heels), pop a good bottle, surround yourself with laughter, joy and people you love and celebrate the "it's almost Monday" blues away. Girls wanna have fun too. Have a very good weekend everyone. Cheers!

Am totally obsessed when it comes to Christmas decorations. Everything needs to be sparkling and perfect, and "more" is definitely "less" as far as I'm concerned. Choose white every year as the snow situation is always a bit uncertain in A'dam, and this sets the "wintery" tone best (yeah: I tried gold and stuff as well: didn't work).

My attempts to reproduce snow though are sad and numerous. Tried plain flower once, which was wonderful (looked so real!) until I caught a cold and continuously sneezed the decoration everywhere but where it was meant to stay. The same happened with silver dust, which I still find in my orchids and my heels (which found their way to the living room as shoe-chamber is overbooked). My clever attempt to glue almost 100 cotton pads on the window to reproduce idea of falling snowflakes was so much work that I didn't remove them until late summer, and the snow spray I finally used last year (frosted effect: loved it): well, had to bring couch sheets to dry cleaner twice after almost ruined washing machine with that damn sticky stuff.

See: I need REAL snowflakes for my Christmas decorations this year, even more so as my heel outfit (thank you Daniele Dentici), is so utterly beautiful Christmas-tree-ish. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Will ya, please?
