Golden Globes Baby!

Golden Globes Baby!

The Golden Globes 2015 held yesterday gave Hollywoods' A-listers (or as Tina Fey puts it: “a bunch of despicable, spoiled minimally talented brats”) their first opportunity to dazzle and shine the highly anticipated first red carpet of the year. And like every year, everybody is talking about dresses, accessories and killer bodies, neglecting the fact that the most important tool to walk down the carpet is of course the perfect pair of heels.

E! ‘s attempt to embarrass their guests with the stiletto-cam rather than the manicure-cam didn’t quite cover it, loads of hassle to lift all the layers of fabric to hit that damn little thingie on the floor. But then again, most of Hollywoods' royalty channeled “Old Hollywood Glamour” (read: fashion-retro instead of fashion-forward) which is all about long, floor- and heel covering evening gowns.

The shoe trend of the evening was a classic black pump followed by the nude sandal (soooo 1950-2014) so it's Lena Dunham who wins my favorite shoe moment by kick-ass carpet in a red pointy number.

In other fashion news: Amal Clooney's gloves probably have their own twitter account by now, Jared Letho’s messy braid will put hair stylists out of work (DIY!!!) and Conchita Wurst snatched up the 'most glamorous and best dressed' title of the night, thanks to a green velvet dress which looked very “Out of the Woods” and something Snow White would craft from the drapes straight of the dwarf’s mansion.

But why not: it’s all a fairytale after all. Happy Golden Globes shoe-moments!

I love January for two reasons: It’s SALE everywhere and Hollywood’s Award Season officially opens:
the perfect excuse to never leave the house (except to score some cuties on SALE)
and binge your way through all the nominated films.

Spent all night yesterday watching the globes with my buds “ZA” and “NOTTI”,
had way too much popcorn and champagne and (of course) overslept mercilessly this morning,
but YESSS! - it was all worth it. Nothing better than dressing up at home for the occasion, treating yourself with a “glamicure”, having a blast judging Stars and Starlets, red carpet outfits, hair-do’s, and acceptance speeches from afar.

Sleep deprivation? So not Globes at all!

No doubt though that (besides all the gossip: I so do not wanna have what Jacqueline Bisset was having, but definitely the Louboutin’s Emma Thompson dropped at her speech...) the true winners of yesterday night were my fabulous, FABULOUS shoes. *Voice dramatically sobbing*:
“And I wanna thank Paul Warmer for their generosity, Guiseppe for always making my feet look pretty, and my patient boyfriend who snored through the night and couldn’t care less about the glitz and glam of a heelalista’s-world.
L.o.v.e. y.o.u. a.l.l.!!!!!!”

Today’s shoes are Guiseppe Zanotti.

Available (and on Sale) at Paul Warmer now.

Since my ambitions to visit my dream-continent and aquaint it with a couple of my heels to more or less “rumble in the jungle” failed miserably, I found myself very “Out of Africa” indeed. Weeping over the missed chance to fly to Joburg I clung to books, pictures, music, films and anything else with some kind of African flair, plus most of the time I dressed like some escaped bush-native decorated like a christmas tree. The tribal version than. Freshly Ground (SA Afro-Fusion band) and Arno Carstens (SA singer) became my best friends while I daydreamed of being Meryl Streep, lounging with a glass of (South African) wine somewhere in the steppe, desperately awaiting my Robert Redford. A pity Robert never showed up and the steppe just turned out to be my couch. *deep deep sigh*

The only good thing to come from not making the trip: I spared some money, so was able to actually buy myself one of these African inspired high heels I have become so obsessed with. And I am now a pro in contemporary South African dance (aka moving wildly and uncoordinatedly, burning shit loads of calories). Ready for the next braai* bro!

Girls rule!

Women are no doubt one of the weirdest creations on earth. Having spent time with some of the finest of this species the past week, it's time to dedicate today's post to my girls. Not even able to understand myself sometimes, it's the best to find yourself surrounded by like-minded friends. Where just a blink is conversation enough, and a certain (high heel) move can settle an enduring discussion.

Together we are the best anyway. No need to explain the "bitch mode" button we have installed, nor the "overly concerned" lever which might be triggered way too often. Understanding that our "fussy" amplitude can bounce from zero to a hundred in no time (depending on hormone status), we'll just listen and nod. Probably also open a bottle of bubbly, without saying a word.

Best: whenever not going out (kids in bed, spouses away) we jump into something comfortable, open champagne and roll over the bed giggling while trying on high heels. What's weird about that? Girls rule!

I'm a Lady Now!

I'm a Lady Now!

Ladies, I did it. When I hit the keys on the first of January this year to write my first blog entry, I had 366 days ahead of me (aka a HUGE blank piece of paper if you like) and no idea where the journey would lead me. My heel closet was a beloved mess, my babies all eagerly waiting to be featured and little did I know how to embed photographing and writing in my everyday routine. Realizing that I just hit the mark of writing my 300th post in a row (absolutely a reason to celebrate as this year only counts 366 days, so no more "round" numbers to cheer on): there couldn't be a better moment to pamper my feet with yet another special pair of heels. The myth, the legend, the ultimate treat: the one and only red sole there is: Louboutins.

So after 300 days (closet and blogging super strictly organized) and with my new purchase now officially consider myself a "heel" grown-up.There are certainly things you can't do anymore while wearing Loubies, right? Such as sitting any other way than with your legs neatly folded, fooling around with stupid toys for blog entry, or shaking that bottle of champagne before opening (and drinking straight out of it...): no, no! I'm a lady now! Jichaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Now where's my glass?

I Know You Are Out There

I Know You Are Out There

A couple of weeks ago I decided it was about time. Time to splurge on myself a little and (since, for some ridiculous reason, I don't own a single pair) I ordered....well... a pair of Louboutins. Needless to say, since that moment I have been counting the days until my parcel would arrive. I actually even cleaned the house, chilled champagne (I always said I would open a bottle with the arrival of my first red sole...), shaved properly and had my pedi done: Mama is prepared from tip to toe for her new babies and VERY excited! I even stalked (aka tracked) my precious gift (to myself), to be a 100 procent sure I'd be at home when my package arrives.

Which, according to the green bar on the UPS website is today. Cancelled all appointments and stayed at home, glued to the window and almost running downstairs enthusiastically whenever I thought I heard a bus coming. Which happened about five times and it wasn't until six o clock (actually NOW) that I realized: it's not gonna happen today. I won't be opening champagne, won't be caressing Loubie leather (and very probably licking the sole) and I won't going to bed with a big smile on my face, but full of worries.

Ok, let's check one more time and take a peak out of the window... (almost want to shout I KNOW YOU ARE OUT THERE!), then will jump in my other pair of "reds". A little bit of sparkle is very much needed!

Miss You Already

Miss you already

Boyfriend gone, first 12 hours without him: am a free woman, ready to enjoy whatever a gal would do on the odd "straw widow's" night out.
Forgot about dinner, feeding instead on the last alcohol I could find in (HIS!) precious red wine bottles. Shredded all magazines to pieces for new winter trends (all spread out in the living room now, and no one can say anything about it).

Browsed all heel-alicious internet sites for new inspiration. As I found quite some, tried to call cockpit of airline boyfriend is flying with three times to get hold of his credit card number. Didn't succeed. All the Limoncello I imported from Italy especially and only for precious occasions needed to be drunk due to disappointment. Had to watch "Count of Monte Christo" (extended version). Dozed off over googling "South African work and patterns" and turned up like a Keith Haring figurine on acid to work. (Glad you can't see my face: pillow patterns just add that little extra, don't you think?)

Guess what I'm trying to say: Miss boyfriend already, can you please come home?

Credit cards work overseas, don't they?
