Autumn hues on the loose

Autumn hues on the loose!

Pappa November has gone crazy the past few days, pouring its painting pots all over the city.
Trees and bushes are tumbling into a punch drunk color frenzy, and so do I.

Well, at least the bottom of my closet was looking exactly like Amsterdam streets, all covered in a mess of luminous yellows and all the shades of red, pinks and browns you can think of. Yes, was adapting my closet for the lower temperatures, felt a little tipsy on texture, over dozed on bold tones and fell in a color coma.
When I woke up I had forced my BF to document me running in the wild with a bunch of flowers, kind of like an Olympic torch going in bat for my favorite season.

Good thing: I found many many gorgeous shoes which I abandoned in boxes over the summer.
Bad thing: I might still sit in a pile of bold tones arranging wild combinations oddly instinctive by spring.

If you are a prince, come along and kiss me out of my delicious delirium. Or forget about the kiss and bring a pair of heels instead. Bright colors and prints welcome.

Today’s shoes are my all time favorite Charlotte Olympia (which had slept in their box way too long)

The best thing about September might be that you can indulge and dream about all the new season keypieces while it’s still warm, and you don’t have to bother how the hell you should pull off that sheer dress when it’s actually -5 degrees. I also always (!) kinda fall into a sort of color frenzy (The new red! The bright blue! The “why not” green!), secretly knowing that after a month of trying hard to twerk all that perky hues my mind (together with extremely slowed down bodily functions due to the COLD!!!) settles in a sort of achondroplasia (read: fashion hibernation) as well.

From that moment on, black will dominate my wardrobe, and socks and boots will become a staple while I’m already dreaming about Spring (and new sandals) yet to arrive. So why not safe all the hassle and focus on BLACK from the very beginning, even better when all the delicious trends come in a desaturated version anyway. Regardless the season: black will always stay the new pink, and to sport a little gothic chic this winter is anything but depressing (or in my case: laziness). Hope you have fun with my Lookbook!

Thank's to my friend Edwin I find myself caught in the Icebucket madness as well. As if there wouldn't be enough water from above in the Netherlands anyway but it's for a good cause, so all fine.

I'd like to nominate my favorite heel designers Brian Atwood, Ruthie Davies and Charlotte Olympia to join the challenge next, so I won't be the only idiot ruining a beloved pair of heels (Brian, you might go barefoot as well, I know suede leather loafers are a killer to clean!).

Please note that besides all selfish posting fun, donating is crucial to fight a terrible disease, so give as much as you can: your next pair of heel purchase can wait (a little). Here we go, and sorryyyyyyyyyyy shoes!!!!!!

Pucker up, ladies. Smooches abounded on the Spring ’14 runways, making their mark everywhere from shoes (Charlotte Olympia) to sunglasses (Jean-Charles de Castelbajac). Saint Laurent‘s Hedi Slimane doused an 80s-tinged ruffle top and short black wrap dress with an allover rouge lip print. Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s 1971 Vichy Chic collection, the smackers were a somewhat surprising embrace of the house’s history, and the high street (H&M: Sweaters! Zara: Scarfs!) just couldn’t wait to follow.

If mouthy accessories (anyone in risking a big lip?) are more your taste, look no further than my all time classic: a Lulu Guiness bag. Ah! I could have one in a different shade for every day. Or maybe that Diane von Fürstenberg I-phone cover? Or maybe that classic Chanel lipstick? Bright kisses (printed all over the object of your desire yourself) never run out of style. As does my shoe favorite of this month: Sule Orhan’s “Easy rider”.

New Year, New Heels!

New Year, New Heels!

With the New Year's resolutions designers will also be flooding us with new ideas to decorate our bodies (NYResol. No1: TONE IT), delight our minds (NYResol. No2: PIMP IT), and get us ready for the hottest dates ever (NYResol. No3: JUST BRING IT ON...). Certainly it’s not only the outfit which will us guide through a spectacular 2014, but the SHOES which will carry us in every situation, flawless no doubt.

The shoe fairs from Düsseldorf to Mailand played it rather safe this year though (hmmm, recession, or just the new modesty?), so expect a lot of flats, boy brogues, mid-hight heels with the lady-like pointy toe as we know it by now. Gladiator sandals will be back (if you didn’t dare last season: prepare to look like Cleopetra now), as will the flat form (aka still not flattering, sorry Marni). Spikes are replaced with shiny rhinestones which you will find even on sneakers and something that looks like a pimped Birkenstock sandal (Prada, hello?).

New maybe is the elaborated “Peep Heel”, a cut-out in the back, exposing your heel: so I suppose we should be investing in callus removers rather than Chanel lipstick now for utter “Samt Füssli”. And if you're a bitch on a budget: you can’t go wrong investing in something shiny and metallic: this season silver, gold and bronze are almost everywhere (no, Croqs do NOT count!).

Having said so: Happy High Heeling 2014, and remember: Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but shoes are her lover.

Boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway for my birthday and as I didn’t know where we were heading, I found myself in the car with 3 pairs of shoes (preparation is everything ladies) and 4 outfit changes, ready to rumble: the streets of Antwerp as it turned out.

It also turned out that brand-new yellow satin heels are not the best match for a city paved entirely with cobblestones, but since I had already rescued the 10 inch Charlotte Olympias (peeking out of my purse all day, guess they needed some fresh air anyway) and left the flats in the car (YES, I was vain), the options were limited. But hey! It was Belgium (Chocolate! Champagne!), and besides the lovely company of BF my new other yellow friends also turned heads.

This all happened before I was surprised with my first Chanel purchase EVER (which did not come in form of a compact powder or a nail polish scored at a mall counter), and also before I found myself - Chanel shopping bag and all, very lady like -leaning into a container to score some Svarovsky crystals from a dumped chandelier. But that’s another story for another day. Happy Happy!

Having no children (aka nothing really to wake me up in the middle of the night, causing me wrinkles of sorrow but love) sometimes leaves my parent-friends with a raised eyebrow. Wouldn't I like to adopt a kittn so I can experience some responsibility, and this feeling of unconditional love and care?

Well, well, nothing to worry about my dear friends, believe me: am the proud mommy to not just one furry friend, but at least 30. A whole cat zoo to put it mildly (and I’m saying that with the pround face you all pull off when talking about your growing of family). But of course I'm talking two heel- friends instead of four legged ones.

Have you ever noticed how big my wrinkle of sorrow actually is? All these sleepless nights, worrying how to raise money to rescue and invest in the future of all these poor and lonely creatures! Plus the work! THE WORK! They need to be nursed, petted, and groomed... you know, the usual. And believe it or not: it’s quite a challenge to walk all of them and not neglect one or the other.

As it happens, just today I am welcoming a new friend to my shelter:
Say hello to the cuties, and come to think of it: duty calls. Have some very important feeding and caressing to do. No time to chit chat, so sorry.
