Get me in the mood!

Get me in the mood!

Despite the lack of snow, and general Christmas feeling (yet)...when you hear the first tunes of Mariah Carey yodeling to the jingling sound of bells it’s time to run and undust the sequin dresses, polish the über-big jewellery and put any modesty on hold. It’s December for glamour’s sake, the most sparkling month of the year, and everything normally considered “over the top” or “too much” is now dearly welcome.

A million things to do and organize before the big event but in my mind I already started the annual competition how to outshine the christmas tree, as in sparkling heels and a kitsch outfit (Christmas jumper anyone?). Well, at least once a year it's appreciated to look like a disco ball on acid.

So, just to get me in the mood I decorated a little this weekend, popped some champagne in advance (glistening fluid: my best, where have you been for so long), and threw myself a little pre-christmas party, with the best attendees ever. Finally a reason to bring all shiny shoes on one table! You can bring on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is Youuuuuuuuu”on repeat now, I’m sure that song was written for yet another pair of gorgeous heels.

A day in France

A weekend getaway which does not imply packing suitcases neatly for a flight (in other words a legitimate fear that overweight baggage will cost as much as ticket or a pair of nice heels on sale) always evokes kind of a fashion-Tourette. More, more, more it is, so I step into our car for a surprise trip, trunk stuffed with heels, back seats covered with clothed hooks (another happy Tourette: no creasing, no creasing, no creasing!).

What a bliss that the destination chosen turns out to be the heart of the Champagne region, which -with all it’s luscious greens- just perfectly fits an equally coloured extra long skirt and delicately printed blouse (could be grapes, who knows?). A game of “Where's Wally” well played! The heels of choice, a dream in creamy suede, which are perfect for a day strolling vineyards. A heel high enough to bog down in Moët & Chandon soil (all worth it), low enough to prevent keeling over after the second champagne-tasting. The sun is shining and the hues of green are my favourite color now! Cheers!

P.S.: To go all-excited-while-packing is a delight if your car does not break down half-way and you find yourself in the middle of nowhere in ten inches, looking like an oversized fashion-wreck carrying your carefully chosen 10 kilos of baggage by yourself to the next garage. But this is another story and will be told..... NEVER!

Lady in red

It was my B-day lately, and after celebrating in Milan (friends, champagne, heels), and Amsterdam (more friends, more champagne, heels), I thought I'd take the party to Belgium as well (you can guess with whom, can’t you?).

My designer friend Kim Siderius provided me with the most lovely dress (so red, so beautiful that every red carpet would turn green with envy), and all other gear to celebrate was as grown-up as I certainly feel now. As in: confetti, balloons, a decent swing, and whipped cream still does the job after all those years. Oh well, not to forget the odd pair of High Heels as well.

So after all that dancing, laughing, celebrating and high heeling, I may have checked into Betty Ford by the time you read this (I wonder if they do courses for heel and fun addicts?). But I can certainly tell you: I had the time of my life. Now off she dances in that red dress, humming:

“Lady in red is still dancing with the, (gorgeous heels),
There’s nobody here, it’s just me and the Gucci's,
It’s where I want to be,
Don't make me go (-dramatic “Oooo”, ) -ending this does not feel right,
but I’ll never forget the way I felt tonight.”

My Big Fat First Brazilian Wedding

Although I knew that Brazilian weddings are huge, I had no idea what to expect when arriving at our almost last destination in Brazil: Curitiba.

On the private acres of our generous hosts (including three houses of relatives, own forest and horse stables) a tent is being built. A tent? It’s more like they're building a rock star concert stage (think Beyoncé), with a chapel built from scratch, dance floor for 800 people, buffet, bar, lounge and toilets that are bigger and more luxurious than in the Four Season's. Ah, and there is a glittery Miu Miu heel indicating the ladies room which I definitely would have snatched away (so beautiful!) had I known where the second one was hidden (it was my size!). And the party people! So glamorous and stylish I guess every red carpet would turn green with envy.

Had to plunder the mother of the bride's closet (thank you Danie, I will be forever grateful), since the flowery dress I brought suddenly didn't seem like such a good idea (patterns ladies, so NOT Brazilian wedding....) and I knew that the designer of the brides-dress (couture!) would be present personally. And yeah. That was all before I ruined my new pair of heels by dancing the night away with all the happy wedding crowd in the most beautiful setting ever. What a night to remember!

P.S.: Am still searching fot that second Miu Miu, but psssssst.... let's keep that our secret, OK?

Move over Kate!

Kate Moss turned fourty this year, and so did boyfriend. Spent the last 31 days preparing surprise after surprise after surprise to make the big bang worth while (something like flying all guests to a private island... well...almost...). As we all know: turning fourty is something we like to forget rather than celebrate, so my task was mainly to make it as unforgettable as possible (he is a man after all.... show some guts!)

Due to all the celebration and preparation my brain got as steamy as my heels running from one fancy location to another and looking back everything appears in a big, lovely, happy blur now. Partying like a rock star is easier when you are 27: BUT! All the confetti bombs, the 24-hour party people, the unforgettable nights (plural: you didn’t think one party would be enough did you?) and was it us really pouring champagne in that bath tub of our four star hotel suite, and me in particular running around in lingerie (and VERY, VERY nice heels ladies!) covered in a big furry coat only?

Well, I say move over Kate, and HAPPY B-DAY boyfriend!

The Crazy Aunt (Xmas Aftermath)

The Crazy Aunt (Xmas Aftermath)

Guess every family treasures the existence of an odd relative, and funnily enough most of the time they are female. I cherished some of those crazy aunties: unmarried, flamboyant ladies they were, wearing gloves and seemingly all of their jewellery at once, leaving red lipstick marks on their never really empty champagne glasses, never afraid to speak out or act outspoken.

During Christmas this year, with all generations gathered - after I won the competition with the traditional tree (aka who sparkles the most), and taught a) my 5 to 10-year old nephews how to walk in 10 inches, and b) my 70-year old parents-in-law how to twerk (and take selfies at the same time), it began to dawn on me. But only the next day (when I recalled standing on the kitchen table in full glittery gear performing Robbie Williams' “I just wanna feel” trying to convince everybody to hit the next club) I was fully assured: the crazy aunt in my family might very well be me.

Can someone hand me my gloves, my jewellery stash and another cocktail please? I have something to celebrate!

Boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway for my birthday and as I didn’t know where we were heading, I found myself in the car with 3 pairs of shoes (preparation is everything ladies) and 4 outfit changes, ready to rumble: the streets of Antwerp as it turned out.

It also turned out that brand-new yellow satin heels are not the best match for a city paved entirely with cobblestones, but since I had already rescued the 10 inch Charlotte Olympias (peeking out of my purse all day, guess they needed some fresh air anyway) and left the flats in the car (YES, I was vain), the options were limited. But hey! It was Belgium (Chocolate! Champagne!), and besides the lovely company of BF my new other yellow friends also turned heads.

This all happened before I was surprised with my first Chanel purchase EVER (which did not come in form of a compact powder or a nail polish scored at a mall counter), and also before I found myself - Chanel shopping bag and all, very lady like -leaning into a container to score some Svarovsky crystals from a dumped chandelier. But that’s another story for another day. Happy Happy!
