Simply Summer!

Simply Summer!

Since we all know that the dutch summer can be a little... erg... let’s call it moody, I suppose a little reminder that it’s actually still summer can’t do any harm. That time of the year, where you wake up to a cloudless sky (the only thing “blue” on your mind), 30+ degrees and and the drama of choice which barely existing dress to wear.

Needless to say that it’s also almost too hot to heel, so all ladies opting for flats to avoid Elephant feet in Gazelle sandals are excused. Well, my heels today are Buffalo’s and with a big crocodiles tear I think back of the beautiful summery day I wore them. Don’t we all need a reminder from time to time that it’s summer somewhere?

The Cannes Routine

The Cannes Routine

There are a couple of routines in Cannes that everybody follows. Although these may differ slightly (pool party or Palais, beach or boat, BBQ at some villa or partying on the Croisette), they all end up at the same place: the inevitable Martinez Bar.

6 AM, just one last drink for the road, the sun already rising. Just one last chat and one remaining business card to hand over before you are thrown out by the bouncers… I don’t think there’s a single person in town who hasn’t done exactly so this week.

Plain tired and with feet sore from dancing, you start the route home. Following another routine, this one probably the most relieving: taking off your shoes.
It’s such a funny sight: all the ladies with their clutch and last drink in one hand, and high heels dangling on the other while trotting to their hotels.
A caravan of really really black feet, jumping quickly in a well, or running through the sprinklers to cool off a hot night.

I will definitely miss the Cannes Routine. That, and having rosé for breakfast.

Business as usual

It’s a beautiful day, and after a weekend of meditation (yeah, sure! ;-)) and good rest (since boyfriend is back I have slept like a baby again), I arrive at the office in high spirits (I love morning hours!).

Over Nespresso (delicious! George Clooney himself was in last week to deliver the machine) and croissants (two, at 580 calories apiece, surely won’t affect my bikini figure), I dive into my mail and duties for today.

Oh great,  my attending at the International Conference “What Design Can Do” has approved (all expenses covered) and they are even asking whether I would mind having an “all access” pass (+one) to attend all after show parties. Hell yeah!

And we have the final go for our next cover shoot (damn, I totally forgot to return Mario Testino’s call, next on my list…). We have full creative freedom to come up with something extraordinary and mind-blowing! I have the slight feeling we will have to have a shoot somewhere in the Caribbean (the light is so much better there).

Interrupted by the phone (Dries van Noten’s PR assistant, asking whether  my outfit for the ADCN Gala should be delivered to my business or home address. …), I quickly flip through other event invitations for the week when:

*Dingdong* new mail!

“Can you please stop daydreaming and align pages 1-50 ASAP?”

Bubble burst…..I almost forgot it’s Monday and business as usual…

Song for boyfriend

Song for boyfriend

It’s been almost a week since boyfriend headed off to Milan to DJ and I miss him terribly.

Besides the fact that I can’t sleep without him (sounds sweet in theory but is horrible in reality: the grunge look is so 90’s), I just feel torn in half (imagine the picture: a single lonely shoe, instead of a pair….!).

So I decided to write him…erghh.. a song.
Ok, I know this is super cheesy, but at least it kept me busy for one of my sleepless nights (aka fair deal).

Enjoy!

Since you have gone away

my better half has gone astray

I caught the “can’t sleep” bug

missing your perfect hug

I don’t like to snore alone: so boyfriend please come home

(whistling)

Just sharing greetings from afar

is not really who we are

and what I really miss

is your smell and your kiss

I really don’t want to moan: so boyfriend please come home

(whistling)

Sleeping in your sweater

didn’t make it better

To save me from the blues

I had to buy new shoes

I can’t confess over the phone: so boyfriend please come home

(rough guitar solo)

Just wondering if next sleepless night will be due to head banging or my guilty (shoe) conscience 😉

Back to Boots

Back to Boots

Four times a year my walk-in closet goes through a magical transformation.

It’s the great moment of changing wardrobes for the new season.
And how I love the “spring” change!
I almost feel kissed by the sun as I pull out yellow chiffons, pastel silks, flattering dresses, and macramé and lace tops.
Hot summer nights, endless picnic dates, evenings out on the terrace: I am ready to cherish and embrace you! And am now also absolutely prepared fashion wise.

The only trouble is that even though the sun is doing its best to pretend it’s spring already (teasing: “bye bye lined booties, hello peep toes”), the degrees Celsius have dropped drastically over the past few days.
Yes, I am totally aware that one of the biggest spring trends is all about mixing,
but someone seriously needs to tell the weather gods that this is meant for fashion.
Not for clouds, stiff winds and freezing temperatures!

Since blue (wool) section of closet are the only warm things I have left (there was no more space in boxes), apparently this is the only color I will be wearing the upcoming weeks.
Now that’s what I literally call the blues.
And being back to boots.
*sigh*

I do not have pets nor plants, I’m afraid I would neglect them or quickly lose interest.

I have shoes instead.
But I pretty much dare to say, that I have exactly the same feelings towards them as all loving pet owners.

Missing your cat when you’re on vacation? Me too.
Can’t wait to cuddle your furry friend when you get home? Same here.
Playing with your animals for hours, annoying your friends telling them what indescribable glee they give? I do so as well.
See? Not that different!

Having just come back from holiday, I found out that I am a very good mother to my pets. Especially when they come with a heel.
Unpacking a new pair of lovely leopards, I found out that I have a given shelter to a f****** zoo already!

And I haven’t even shown you the “savanna”- section (all zebra) or the “aviary” (feathers and stuff) yet!
To be continued, must dash now, I have to feed the animals.

Oscars 2012

Oscars 2012

It was a long way until tonight. 1591 hours of watching movies (I insist of seeing all nominations before the Oscars night to be really able to join the frenzy), and I can tell you: it was not always easy.

I had to stop watching “Tree of Life” as I am obviously “blond as Marilyn” and didn’t get it, fell asleep during “Moneyball” (no, Brad Pitt was no “Help”) and “Hugo” (twice), did a mani and pedi while watching “Midnight in Paris” and didn’t miss one important thing (including the annoying accent of Owen Wilson) and almost vomited at the end of “War Horse” due to Hollywood kitsch.

I do not understand why so many “child phantasy fiction miracle “movies made it on the shortlist, and I actually think that the original “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was more touching than the Hollywood version. (Sorry Daniel…) But I adored Kenneth Brannagh as much as I fell in love with Michelle Williams (“My week with Marilyn”), Glenn Close is AMAZING in “Albert Nobbs” as is my all time favorite actress Meryl Streep in “The iron Lady” (She could play a wet handkerchief and still be convincing couldn’t she?).

“The Help” made me think for weeks, “The Descendant” to hook up with Mr. Clooney (he is SO good when devastated), and I was in (silent - no pun intended) tears and utter awe with every little detail from cast to props (my favorite for tonight): “The Artist”.

Here I am: armed with champagne, laptop, remote control and a lot of stamina to watch the red carpet gossip and award show LIVE. On the couch. But with own red carpet then.
It’s the Oscar’s baby, what do you think???
