Autumn hues on the loose

Autumn hues on the loose!

Pappa November has gone crazy the past few days, pouring its painting pots all over the city.
Trees and bushes are tumbling into a punch drunk color frenzy, and so do I.

Well, at least the bottom of my closet was looking exactly like Amsterdam streets, all covered in a mess of luminous yellows and all the shades of red, pinks and browns you can think of. Yes, was adapting my closet for the lower temperatures, felt a little tipsy on texture, over dozed on bold tones and fell in a color coma.
When I woke up I had forced my BF to document me running in the wild with a bunch of flowers, kind of like an Olympic torch going in bat for my favorite season.

Good thing: I found many many gorgeous shoes which I abandoned in boxes over the summer.
Bad thing: I might still sit in a pile of bold tones arranging wild combinations oddly instinctive by spring.

If you are a prince, come along and kiss me out of my delicious delirium. Or forget about the kiss and bring a pair of heels instead. Bright colors and prints welcome.

Today’s shoes are my all time favorite Charlotte Olympia (which had slept in their box way too long)

All about that base

All about that base

Armed with a bunch of autumn steels (all organic, all flowers don’t you worry...), whistling Meghan Trainor's catchy “All about that bass”, I'm on my way home from a quick stroll through the park. Having just photographed a pair of lovely green heels and knits in the gorgeous setting of the Vondelpark, and totally in the mood for some hot chocolate, I realize that instead of “bass”, I’m humming “base”. Hit by a sudden bout of inspiration (base = basic = basic outfit in a fashionista's head...) had to drop everything and sit down for yet another set of pics “all about those basics” - which I have admittedly cherished over and over again these past few days.

When nature is still inviting us to play outside, an oversized knit and over-the-knee boots (ha, what better kind of “base” to pick for your daily look) will totally do for some outdoor pleasure and - why not - a full post on a heel blog. Although over-the-knees are always a good idea, don’t you think?

But just in case you may hesitate that that kind of boots (or a short pullover) might reveal too much or won’t work for your figure, I can only recommened listening to the rest of Meghan’s lyrics preaching: “Yeah my mama she told me don’t worry about your size. She says, “Boys like a little more booty to hold at night” which totally means I’m going to have two hot chocolates instead of one just now.

Have a happy Monday!

Sneak Peak autumn|winter

Fashion and “seasons” work in mysterious ways. While the hard core fashionistas are just now busy following Mamma Wintours footsteps streaming summer collections for next year, the average shopping gal must accustom to windows filled with pullovers and quilted trousers (not to forget this winters ultra heavy boots) while temperatures still scream mini skirt (well, sort of: as always the Netherlands might be an exception).

When new seasonal items hit fashion mag’s they have been shot half a year in advance (aka, aren’t they sooooo 6month ago?) and by the time I will have starved myself long enough to make that Dolce and Gabbana fairytale coat (a|w 2014) or that GORGEOUS fringed Brian Atwood boot (*sigh*) my own all snow of 2015 might have melted and I might consider a bikini wax again.

But have to admit it has its charm lounging somewhere warm, armed with the bible (read: Vogues Collection of the entire upcoming winter fashion) and getting all inspired what key items to stock for the cold days. Well, maybe my anticipation went a little too far though. Wearing woolen socks at 30degrees put my toes in kind of a pre-fall sweaty coma. Might have to buy that fringe boots to make up with them again.

Autumn just got a lot more beautiful

The cold season can come down pretty darn hard on us gals, and it’s not only the unwillingness to get properly dressed (aka put some nice heel gear on when it’s cold and wet and getting dark at a time that we usually started sipping Rosé). It’s the indecent amount of chocolate and red wine we crave now - building up fat reserves (now hidden in comfy sweaters and layers of clothes) - which will surely be regretted 4 months later. We start knitting beanies and shawls on Saturday nights where we used to have fun in our local bar, and pedicures? - I don’t even know how to spell that word properly anymore now that my toes have lost any exhibitionism due to the lack of open stilettos.

Well, well: it’s autumn no doubt, BUT! There are booties out there ladies, in luxury leathers, embellished and designed with so much love and effort that it feels easy to put on that matching sequin (mini) skirt, defying the urge to stay home on the couch and take an online course in “how to: Origami butterflies" to at least feel reminded of spring.

Hell yeah, I just released the whole collection I crafted lately to the wild. Might be because I have them already shining on my marvellous boots. See ya out there!

Harvest Festival

When I took the requirement test to study graphic design (it was the third test to get into some kind of school that I had had to do in my life back then, and decided it would definitely be the last), we were asked to color quadrants in the shades of the 4 seasons. One for spring, summer, etc. While this would be an easy task these days (simply copy fashionable nail polish OPI’s seasonal palettes - can't go wrong with that), back then all I had to go on was my own youthful experience. And rebellious as you are at the age of 25, of course you do anything but paint the real thing.

The only season I couldn't help but represent in its real hues was autumn. The richness of shades, the boldness of color, the extravaganza before everything dies! So waking up today to a beautiful fierce blue sky and a paint box outside (which would have made Van Gogh cut his other ear), I just had to dedicate today's post to the colors of autumn. Also because am totally stuck inside (aka work) and can't go play outside (aka shop) and cherish this beautiful day in lovely heels.

Well, having my little Harvest Festival inside then. Why not.

First Step Towards Autumn

First Step Towards Autumn

Rather than all these hints mama nature is already dropping (getting her brush out to colour leaves, forgetting to switch of the tab so we're stuck with endless rain, and covering earth with the black "good-night-blanket" earlier and earlier each day), it's my inner clock which is set on alarm these days.

When I voluntarily grab wooly jumpers instead of silk dresses and start looking for booties rather than peep toes (which I still haven't worn during summer), it's about time.
Time to stock up on candles and instant soups for cosy (early) evenings, to start fiddling in drawers to pull out the one remaining pantyhose (last worn in April) and to switch from enjoying white wine to heavy red. Time to reset not only the clock, but last summer sale buys (good bye chiffon glory), and most importantly: be prepared to wear rubber boots more often.

Yes ladies, we are heading towards winter, first step towards autumn has just been made.
