Hot or Not – The Flatforms

Hot or Not - The Flatforms

Whenever the fashion gods provide us with new trends my heart starts to dance the Rumba (aka flutters in excitement), and my creditcard starts to quiver (aka fear). Usually ready to follow the fashion mantra of every new season with glee, my dancing might come to an abrupt stop this summer. I should probably be glad that after years of squeezing my toes into sky high heels and platforms (to elongate appearance), designers are now blessing us with more comfortable gear. But I have to say ladies: I’m not.

Here comes the “flatform”, and with it a look that comes very close to Godzilla after he broke his ancles and attached two pieces of chunky wood to fix them. Surely you'll be able to walk these shoes for hours, but be assured too: it won’t look very elegant - at all. So, hmmmmmm. Am very interested in the opinion of my lovely heel-sista’s: would you wear them ladies? What do you think.... hot? Or not?

P.S.: My creditcard stopped shivering and it’s my heart now experiencing a sudden bout of fear: Just had a look at the footwear of Céline for next winter...

An Early "Thank You"

An Early "Thank You"

Late February (02.2012) I received an email from an unknown lady in response to my cries for an editor. Not that I hadn't received a couple of offers, but somehow I immediately knew: YES, this is her. It might have been that her style of writing was so utterly charming, or her (later confession of) being sick of me putting two "e's" in "being" for the third time that convinced me... but here we are, months later, and I feel it's time for an early "thank you".

Not only did I find the most accurate and most reliable editor (no Sundays, or other days off for her either throughout these 366 days, can you imagine!?), I also got to know a very special woman whom I would probably never have met if it weren't for her offering to read my sh..- ergh -"shoe- musings" every day. Now we meet up whenever our schedules allow (talking about everything but inches), and am so thankful that besides 2 dozen of high heels I also gained a real friend during this year's project.

Oh! Just realized the date today: 12.12. Two wasn’t really on my list of lucky numbers (except the obvious: heels that come in pairs). Seems that this has changed in 2012. Caroline van Leuven: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, you are indeed the best editor I could have ever wished for.

Another month has come to an end, and if the year weren't over in 31 days, I would probably be glad. Am sure that by now, I'm dedicating more time a day to blogging, than Madonna does to her daily workout (believe me: that's a lot, just imagine my figure if I was doing that!). Without having worked out a single minute *sigh*, I can tell this was one of the most intense months ever though. Perhaps because I wanted to do especially well, and combine private life and partying and travelling (very Madonna-ish indeed...).

If at the beginning of the year I was a little puzzled that friends still asked how I was doing (after all, they could easily have read about it, right?), am now finding myself in the situation that ALL OF THEM read it, and refer to my complaints of not hearing from them with: "Hello, read your blog, I know what you've been up to". (OK... that's actually pretty cool). It was also one hell of a social month, and have to thank not only my friends for supporting me, but also the newspapers Standard and Tiroler Tageszeitung for putting my interviews out there for the public. Plus, adding two of my favorite Shoetation heels to today's picture goes without saying as I met the most lovely shoe-shop owner of Vienna just this month. (You can still get the cuties here!)

Thank all of you out there for the second to last month on my diary blog. It's been a real blast.

P.S.: Oh, and thank's to my friend Ossi for the fun shoot, picturing me and my favorite car which I could never afford due to heel-addiction.

Must be very careful when reviewing books concerning fancy ladies who describe their life, even when "Stilettos" are mentioned on the cover. After all, you never know, own blog might turn into something similar one day.. So when friend handed me "The Shaman in Stilettos", I naturally proceeded with caution. Although the subtitle "From life crisis to inner peace, with a touch of glamour along the way" did raise a red flag (only a touch of glamour? Wrong immediately.), I could appreciate the gesture (something with heels, how nice!). Must confess: haven't read a single page yet. See, I have a slight aversion against "self help" literature. Sure, read "Eat Pray Love" but it only left me loving food more, eating twice as much and praying to lose all the gained weight afterwards (please!). Besides, definitely can't afford a trip to the Amazon and having an affair with a Shaman (Hello? Have BF!) to find some inner peace right now.

But there's surely some truth to it: life is a jungle (loads of spiders, snakes and traps included) and guidelines and inspiration are very much needed. It is possible to go on an incredible journey and conquer the world. And of course you put on your high heels, as you simply have a better overview from 10 inches or higher. A story that's probably better written by your own experience than just another book.Tsktsk, a touch of glamour.....

Missed out on a couple of things this year due to the work and blog thing. Totally renovating the house was one, getting rid of my house spider (I call her Maggie and saw her grow fatter and fatter over summer). Then there are all the events I had to decline because I was preparing a shoot, or writing or too tired anyway. Also missed all meetings with my dentist, gynaecologist, and (very importantly) hairdresser. Because by now it's quite a matter of urgency, I had to take my adult responsibility and finally make an appointment with.... the latter of course.

Since my attempt to take care of the situation myself earlier this year (Edward Scissorhands couldn't have been more clumsy) am hiding the "leftovers" in an effortless bun, and it's a good thing I'm focused on my heels and not on my face. But this will all change today: today I'm gonna get the total makeover and walk out of Cutting Inc. looking either very Victoria Beckham (bob), or Katie Holmes (feminine waves).

Just a pity that after 3 hours of work I (having looked stunning for 5 minutes) was attacked by the most evil bout of rain on my way home. Now I'm sporting the "cat" look, aka totally wet and drownd. *sigh*. Back to bun.

Is it just me or did this month just pass by in a flash? Feels like it was just YESTERDAY that I was in Berlin, jetting from one party to the next, always with camera in one and laptop in the other hand (and always two pairs of heels to change..). And was that me sneaking into the ladies room at the Soho House to secretly take pictures? Really?

Time is running so quickly now that I'm having trouble keeping up the pace... Jumping into a new pair of lovelies every day, quickly taking a picture and writing...and there are so many other things to organize! Like my first high heel shoe party (wohoo, taking place this Sunday, you all need to come!!!!), a possible exhibition to accompany this year's blog and well... possibly also making a book out of it. So many ideas, so little time but again so many people I have to thank for another happy heel month. (THANK YOU!)

Pretty much summing up the month though is incredibly patient (and still super supportive) BF, who (after I spread all the heels for my sale shamelessly in the livingroom) aimply commented on the chaos with two words: "I lost".

Haha, babe, you didn't lose! You're just smack in the middle of your "heel-crazy" girlfriend's project, and well, perhaps it got a little extreme, but hey: 10 months done, only two more to go.

I hope you will still all walk with me. High heels please.

A couple of weeks ago I decided it was about time. Time to splurge on myself a little and (since, for some ridiculous reason, I don't own a single pair) I ordered....well... a pair of Louboutins. Needless to say, since that moment I have been counting the days until my parcel would arrive. I actually even cleaned the house, chilled champagne (I always said I would open a bottle with the arrival of my first red sole...), shaved properly and had my pedi done: Mama is prepared from tip to toe for her new babies and VERY excited! I even stalked (aka tracked) my precious gift (to myself), to be a 100 procent sure I'd be at home when my package arrives.

Which, according to the green bar on the UPS website is today. Cancelled all appointments and stayed at home, glued to the window and almost running downstairs enthusiastically whenever I thought I heard a bus coming. Which happened about five times and it wasn't until six o clock (actually NOW) that I realized: it's not gonna happen today. I won't be opening champagne, won't be caressing Loubie leather (and very probably licking the sole) and I won't going to bed with a big smile on my face, but full of worries.

Ok, let's check one more time and take a peak out of the window... (almost want to shout I KNOW YOU ARE OUT THERE!), then will jump in my other pair of "reds". A little bit of sparkle is very much needed!
