Charm overdose

Charm overdoze

My cousin and her lovely daughter (you've already met them) visited Amsterdam this weekend for the first time, and as always when visitors are expected, the city pulls out it’s charm-sprinkle-machine and shows itself from its best (and most sunny!!!!!!!) side.

My credibility in complaining about gruelling weather conditions is completely lost as this first “meet and greet” with Amsterdam was 'spoiled' by 22 degrees, sipping rosés on terraces and beautiful and inspiring views everywhere (read: a lot of shoe-shop windows to marvel at while walking the city). Dutch light bathes everything, playing the (oh so working!) “rom-com” card, dipping the sky in soft rose colors at sunset, matching blushed cheeks due to all excitement. What a charming place this can be when the sun is out, and they still sell tulips in November. Even cobblestones look heel-inviting and no one cares about burning feet after a zillion steps in the direction of the next delicious meal.

My beloved Diva Amsterdam, you have a couple of new fans, and I (again) fell head over heels for your charm overdose. Than again: everything looks, feels and tastes better when you're enjoying it with loved ones. By that I mean people and footwear likewise. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too.

Day at the Pool

Day at the Pool

We arrived in Rio de Jainero three days ago and it feels utterly surreal to be here. So much beauty, such a different scenery, so many impressions! Our hotel is located directly at the beach, with the most gorgeous view you can imagine. I wonder if someone secretly told the organiser of our journey what to provide to make us happy, as champagne and a pool with the most gorgeous view await us. The sun so bright (aka unforgiving, aka revealing every beauty failure, aka when the hell did I actually grow a mustache???), the colors so intense, the vibe so lively!

You quickly adjust to being a “Carioca” which in Brazil means to just be happy about life, to feel free and be authentic. Well, I must say it’s very hard to resist that mantra (in my case feeling very authentic looking like a cheesecake amongst all the tanned Brazilian beauties) when being pampered and spoiled so nicely.

Let’s go and pop that champagne, ditch the heels and clothes and just hang at the pool and celebrate life, please! But first I will give myself a proper Brazilian. On the face that is.

Oh Happy Day

It has been a beautiful, beautiful summer so far with loads of cheerful events and possibilities to drag out the fancy wardrobe, the most glamorous (aka impossible to wear) heels, blowing all remaining budget for facials, hairdressers and spray tans to look fabulous and: celebrating your heart out.

After months of planning and anticipation our mates Kim&Alex finally got hitched: my very first dutch wedding to attend. And what a day it was. Such a magic location, such a wonderful bride and groom (am still in awe about the blue laces all the guys wore: a new trend???), so many lovely people, so much love in the air, and well.... such a heavy bout of rain as well. I guess also the sky had to pay tribute squeezing out that little tear which we all had in our eyes.

After all that heavy partying, dancing, toasting and cheering, you will understand that some rest is needed. With beautiful memories in mind, I am off for a (heel) retreat aka well deserved holiday aka to hell with the inches and HELLO shabby T’s, bikini and Flip Flops.
Toedelidokie!

Move over Jamie!

Move over Jamie

Besides being crazy about heels, I have another (more hidden) passion: cooking. Whenever I have the time, I love strolling around markets, shopping for food (the pleasure of smelling truffles or herbs is almost similar to the irresistible scent of a brand-new leather shoe), and trying my best in the kitchen to pamper friends and BF.

Cooking requires a lot of practise though, and - like learning to walk in 10 inches (don't stumble, mind the gaps!) - some time until one is able to produce something presentable. The deflated souffles, the sticky rice, the burnt chicken, the watery veggies: I had them exactly as often as the usual blister, the sore toes and the charming appearance of a drunken sailor tottering in extreme highs. But eventually never giving up pays off, and today am juggling heels and kitchen knives kinda OK-ish (aka still ambitious).

Must pat myself on the back, perhaps bragging just a little, but if I humbly compare myself to idol Mr. Oliver, I may very well win when it comes to being “hot while cooking". As far as I know, Jamie never wears high heels.

10 Feet on a Blanket

10 Feet on a Blanket

Ten feet on a blanket, enjoying food and wine,
One got bored, toddled off home and then there were just nine;

Nine feet on a blanket, having a picnic, swingin' until late,
One tumbled off (aka drank too much), so then there were just eight.

Eight perky feet, enjoying a summer's day of heaven,
One had too much sun, fell asleep and then there were just seven.

Seven little feet, keen on sharing (beauty) tricks,
One was a dog's, and didn't talk, so that made it just six.

Six little summer feet, up for some sun and jive,
One was prepared for rain in Hunters, so that would make it five.

Five feet, still happy, all wedges on the floor,

The other Hunter felt left out, so it ended up being just four.

Four feet, just chilling under the shadow of a tree,
One needed to take the dog to pee, so that would make it three.

Three remaining feet, now gossiping a lot too,
One thought this wasn't right and fled, so then there were only two.

Two little feet, enjoying the last rays of sun,
One got too cold and needed to leave, so left over was just one.

One little foot, feeling über-lonely with all the others gone,
One last sip of wine and off it went, so finally there were none.

Buh.

What a grey day…
The weather is dull and that last glass of wine yesterday was the usual one too many… So today is definitely one of those days when you do not want to leave the house.
Or even get out of bed for that matter.
Best to just hang around in your PJ’s, waiting until the big gray “Kater” (aka hangover) decides to finally move it’s lazy bump and leave.
Even watching a movie seems too much (also, favorite cheer-up actress Audrey Hepburn mainly features in black and white movies, which wouldn’t really enrich the color palette of the day), so I see only one option:
Head straight to any .com site the internet has ever invented to make you buy SHOES.

Not wanting to frustrate myself (DON’T go to Louboutin.com on a day like this), today it’s Topshop.com, Zara.com and Zappos.com.
And hurray! Marvellous heels, wedges, and plateaus are waiting to perk up my wardrobe and my mood (by the way: my-wardrobe.com is another favorite for days like today).
Tonight I will be celebrating with “best-editor-I-could-ever-wish-for” that we have almost made it to a third of our shoe year.
And maybe the odd new shoe purchase as well…
I wish you all a very Haveahappysaturday.com!

Ave Maria

Ave Maria

Was woken up this morning by a very unfamiliar noise.

Is that… wait, is someone singing ‘Ave Maria’ outside the apartment?
With sleepy eyes I look down on myself (guilty reflex?)
but over here is all very “Ave Agent Provokateur”, so fine.
Turns out that apartment is conveniently placed at a place of pilgrimage.
Ave Mother Theresa.

So people are obviously very religious over here, but I couldn’t help noticing a couple of other important things.
Do like the locals do. If that means that they sit in the sun sipping wine all day, well “Ave” to our ability to blend in so easily…

Be aware that this is city is absolutely stunning, and so beautiful from every angle that it turns every supermodel green with envy.
But be beware that this city has a lot of dogs too.
They “drop” things, and while you are busy looking everywhere but down….
“Ave” presents on your shoes!

But more importantly: do not get the idea that you can walk this city on heels. Amsterdam’ s cobblestones are a joke compared to what you have to deal with in these tiny little streets.
Since my believe is to always give everything a try: Hallelujah to the impossibility!
