And when the rain begins to fall…

Of course we all knew that summer would eventually end and that the dark reality (aka one extra hour of sleep does NOT make up for having to get up while it's still pitch black outside) of shorter days and less sun would come. And definitely all fashionistas know it’s fun to choose outfits and shoes for fall and “cold occasions” (Finally hats! Oversized knits! Fancy sheepskin furry heels!) Well, in September that is, when it’s still warm and your tanned legs haven't been attacked by polyester DIN's yet.

It's a completely different story though when weather conditions force you to stuff rain-proof pants into unfashionable rubber boots, because you got cocky earlier that year, ruined your last pair of Hunters at Glastonbury and thought “whatever, it won’t rain this autumn for sure”. And don’t lie to me about wearing those delicate sheep skin heels when rain bout number three hits you on your way to work and mud puddle number 176 just again said “Hi” to delicate suede leather and ruined it for good.

If you are tired of ditching well chosen outfits for the sake of weather protection over and over again - this year's wellies are nothing short of fashion fabulous. From traditional bootie (I could LIVE in my newly discovered DÄV's -a Californian (!) brand...), polyvinyle sexy (keep the socks ready!), to comfy ancle cut: Here are my picks for fall weather failures.

High Heels to Lowlands!

When attending a festival - despite other opinions - it's clearly not the music and bands playing that require primary focus: it's definitely the decision which heels you'll bring. I've made the mistake of organising a sophisticated schedule of which band to see when and especially running there early to conquer the wave breaker many many times. But it’s the shoes really, which will carry you through mud, empty cans of beer and an over-enthusiastic crowd jostling.

Take into consideration that your heel of choice also needs to be Dixie-toilet proof, dripping mayonnaise (from your second portion of greasy fries) resistant and nonetheless attention screamers for winning over security sympathy. Because of course you'll try to sneak backstage without that all access pass, not once but at least three times. And who cares that you'll have to wear orthopedic devices for weeks afterwards if you have the chance to wake up (in heels still) next to some hot musician piece of ass? High Heels to Lowlands I say.

Sometimes I wish…

Sometimes I wish...
college essay writing help“Daddy!”, the little girl sqeals, pulling the hand of a distinguished, but slightly enervated gentleman. And then again: “Daddyyyyy, may I have this? Pleeeeeease?” I am shopping for a present (yeah, BF in Vienna got a baby boy!) at Knotsknetter, a super cute shop for everything a child's heart could dream of, when this tone of voice, the big, begging eyes, and the quivering enthusiasm of the pupil reminds me of..... well: myself.

Obviously not very much has changed since I was little, just take me to any WTSSW (aka - Where They Sell Shoes- Walhalla) and I AM the grown up version of this excited kid. Shudders running down my spine as I spot another beautiful toy (shoe), another even more intriguing color, a different shape of leather, a more outrageous heel to potentially play with. And how often I just wish I had that sugar daddy, where a tug on the hand and the flutter of an eyelash would automatically trigger the use of a plastic device that is not permanently in the red (aka MY creditcard).

For today I will just buy that baby’s gift. And (like the screaming kid) go home pouting. Then play happily with the toys I already have. Sigh.

Cruising

"What are you doing between Christmas and New Year"? is obviously the question of the month, and I wish I had some super stylish answer. "Oh, you know, just a quick trip down to Barth's" (St. - in the Caribbean that is) would be nice to say, or something dramatic like: "I'm taking it easy, Kate Middleton style (aka pregnant in couture) - isn't sipping champagne soooo 2012 anyway?". Hm. Wonder why everybody is expecting the most fancy things in those 5 days, especially with the Mayas having let us down so badly (aka not preparing anything at all but moving DVD "2012" from "horror" to "comedy" section).

Truth is, am locking myself in the house (aka "bath": Amsterdam that is) and it's DVD of "Love Actually" or "New Years Eve" which are always within reach in case of sudden bout of melancholy. Am not pregnant either, belly is just a left over of Xmas gluttony; and most definitely can't be covered in couture but sweatpants.

Fridge is stocked to the max with bubbles though (waiting to be popped whenever friends stop over at every decent and indecent time) and except for cruising through shoe-collection (anything left I didn't shoot yet?), I really just like to hang with my favorites (read friends, pompous literature and heels).

What a total style snob I am. Happy last Sunday of the year everybody!

Trip To Berlin

Thelma and Louise is one of my favorite movies, and that's not because of (the oh so hot back then) Brad Pitt. It's the girls, their friendship, the "against all odds", the freedom. And well, if there is a cool car involved (plus a pair of Ray Bans and a vintage hairscarf: love it!) even better!

So, when I heard about a trip to Berlin (boyfriend is DJ-ing and am accompanying as groupie) was of course determinend to make it as adventurous a road trip experience as in the movie. My best friend will be played by my shoes, BF will be Brad Pitt, and the car ... well just in case I need to invest in new heels in BRD, I thought it would be smart to borrow a car from friends instead of renting.
Friend A just had his third kid and has adjusted his car like some children's cradle (everything so safe I couldn't even get out of the door and the child seat), friend B said he would love to but needed the car himself (honestly: I could see in his eyes that he was afraid his Audi would suffer the same fate as in Thelma & Louise (though cliffs are rare in Germany), and the moment I saw the rusty old banger we could actually borrow from Friend C, I knew we wouldn't make it over the first hump in Amsterdam.
Me lying under a car trying to fix it somwhere along the Autobahn? Ergh...think again. We are so taking a plane. Hit the air Jack!

The New IT Handbag

The beautiful MM (Mademoiselle Marjolein) is one of the few who understands that when you’re talking about “cat ears” attached to shoes, it’s clear that you’re speaking of a) Marc Jacobs or b) Charlotte Olympia. Whenever I see her, she has the coolest and hottest things (hence the understanding). We met through her boyfriend (brother of VCF, see ealier post “Welcome to the future”): Finnish design to perfection and very (!) fashionable. They met, very romantically, exactly the day after NYE, when he and I had discussed the matter that he would be totally ready for a new relationship.

The following get-together, MM sported a look worth a million: stylish boyfriend, Chanel boots, Marni necklace, Ann Demeulemeester T... a look to turn heads for sure and sure to turn gals green with envy. Over an incident of someone shuffling her Prada bag over the ground, us looking at each other almost instantly saying “No one kicks a Prada!”, the friendship was sealed. And if I forgot to mention: MM is studying fashion marketing in....*sigh*.... Paris.

This time though, she surprised with probably the sweetest accessory you can think of. Designer: shelter, brand: supercute. Price: priceless. Definitely drawing more attention than the Donna Karan handbag “moi” tried to show off with. Plus “Madame Cookie” (aka dog) has a (matching of course) collar instead of a handle to get carried around. Am envious. Dogs are totally the new IT handbag. Donna, move over!
