Yes, I saw it coming. I was warned (fashion signs!), I was alarmed, I was prepared. Or actually, I was so not prepared to be tip-toeing (still in heels) around this summer's hottest trend, the *deep sigh*: advanced flat (aka grown up and pimped orthopaedic shoe).

When Heidi Klum came up with her first edition of crystallized Birkenstocks back in the 90s I could still turn a blind eye hoping that the lapse of taste would be temporary. And certainly I tried not to be blinded (aka totally eye and heel insulted) when I spotted certain creatures sporting the persistent “Adilette”, which already found its way into fashion magazines last season. Brrrrrrrrrr!

But what to do when flatforms are praised from Elle to Vogue as the new cool and promoted so fashionably? *Deep sigh again*: you try of course, even though for a heelalista this means lowering standards quite literally. Tricked everybody though because far away from home (nobody knows me) and on a boat (no heels allowed) everybody just thought I was so “laid back”. Now you delete that picture of me in flats from your long-term memory forever. This never happened and will just stay between you and me, OK?

I have been on the road for three days past weekend, supporting one of my favorite bands, the AdrianoBaTolba Orchestra. Eutin, our final destination might not be the sexiest place on earth (aka, it's in the middle of nowhere and you wonder if there is such thing as a fox and a hare to bid each other goodnight at all...), but it is THE place to be if you are working some Blues tunes.

And hell, they boys did! Above you find a little road map of all the destinations (four cities in three days, check!) and some favorite Rock 'n Roll heels that I packed. Despite I have to say: the only thing you really need, is a bunch of patches to cover your blisters from dancing and loads of stamina, because these guys not only can play: they can party like world champions as well.

Big X!

How to: The Military trend

How to: The Military trend

Last week when picking up a friend from the airport (working huge black sunglasses and a Starbucks- mug only, it was wayyyyyyy to early) I spotted a guy in a full spring/summer-trend outfit. Excited and still half asleep, I kicked BF and whispered: “Look, that’s how you work the military trend!”. Needless to say that I pointed out at a soldier in his uniform who picked up his fiancé (my fashion brain totally tricked me) but what can I say: THIS GEAR IS HOT. Even hotter as it’s not only sported for survival reasons (*hut* hut* hut* through the mud) but on every runway this spring too.

Back home and fully awake now it gave inspiration enough to dive into my closet and get carried away by camouflage prints, muddy greens, and earthy hues. Now you have a reason to cherish chunky boots, rough knits and work all of it “tone on tone”. Key essentials for the look: pockets everywhere (to store lipstick, mirrors, diaries, scented candles and whatever we carry around), heavy belts, laced shoes and of course the inevitable navy-pattern. You probably all have the key items in your wardrobe already, so feel free to get spirited up & fire away (no pun intended) with my guide above. For all the others I can recommend a visit to your local army store: hot dudes spotting all included.

HAVE FUN!

Being back

Being Back

With Obama back to his duty (aka saving America), I am luckily able to switch back to my challenge as well: heels. And what could fit today's topic better than something else that keeps coming back (not talking legislation but fashion): the '80s. Maybe you are amongst those who SWORE never ever to go back and make the same fashion mistakes all over again (remember the perms, the shoulder pads, the legwarmers?), but HA: show me one gal (myself included) who hasn't worn leggings since then and didn't dream about that 2011 Balmain jacket with enormously exaggerated shoulders.

And now we have the pointed (white!) heel back in all shapes and variations. From Céline to Manolo and Jimmy Choo: there's a pair in almost every collection. Couldn't resist and had to try. Was astonished how well they work really, could wear them with almost everything in my closet (yes: the leggings too), and can't think of a single reason not to stock up on such a versatile item. Oh, besides that it's almost winter, which is bound to be wet and ugly and they'll never stay white for long.

Must confess am also tempted to get a perm again. And a boob job too, just to be able to say: Samantha Fox, watch out!

Golden Girl

Another flamboyant icon has teamed up with H&M to give us a taste of international fashion flair (and in this particular case a lot of glamour) for a high street price: Anna dello Russo. Compared to whom I look like some Winnie the Pooh in heel-terms: she's the one storing her (over 4000 pair) heel collection in one apartment, and her designer outfits (wears nothing but.... ) in another (I can only hope they're not 200 m2 each otherwise I'd simply die from envy). So it's pretty obvious that her collection of accessories would be nothing short of: over the top indeed.

Internationally the whole gold shizzle whizzle sold out within half an hour (I suppose it was some rapper who snapped up all pieces at once), but the Dutch ladies were more suspicious. Overheard a conversation of two (very young) sisters wondering if the clutch was some kind of "cover" for...? (well: your lipstick and keys ladies, nothing more nothing less) and some gay stylists comparing the packaging to Louis XIV's wallpaper (-that's her signature guys, dig it). Sigh. Well, all I'm saying is: I like the booties (and the packaging, and a statement and gold in general): so why not be bold?

Enjoy being that golden girl: when designer Maison Martin Margiela will hit H&M in November we will all be back to (oversized) basics again.

Too Much Testosterone

Too Much Testosterone

Despite the fashionable influence of my grandmother (aka her vintage wardrobe), mother (a couture dressmaker) and my cousins’ impeccable wardrobe, I pretty much grew up in tomboy style. It was my friends who had the Barbie dolls and other plastic friends, I could usually be found outside in the mud somewhere, playing cowboys and Indians, building tree houses and hunting for snails (their shells make pretty good necklaces), leaves (fascinating inspiration for autumn fashion) and squirrels (fur collar anyone? ...haha...just kidding).

So I was more than happy to go back to my roots and play with my four nephews all day long: racing cars and playing hide and seek. Pretending to be Yedi knights is our favorite (am Obi-Wan Kenobi, the character of Princess Leah is left to my second nephew *sigh* - that’s pretty much history repeating itself though...). After a long day out hunting for snails and collecting leaves (left out the squirrels, wouldn’t want to give them any stupid ideas), we would snuggle up on the couch and watch Barbapapa instead of E!- and AH!: love my little men powers!

It was only today that I realized that I have probably enjoyed a little too much Testosterone the past days. Am wearing brogues! Glad that the “boy-shoe” (after boyfriend jeans and man shirt) was just chosen by InStyle to be the hottest piece this fall. Would have had to have a serious word with my nephews otherwise.
