Blame it on the lack of sunshine (bright colors needed), blame it on Grammy Sunday (fun outfits) or maybe it is that Fifty Shades of Grey is almost about to air (SM touch goes mainstream). Put all of the above in a blender and voila: your fashion mind will tell you it is just fine combining a shredded pullover (bright enough to cure Steve Wonder’s blindness) with some badass black leather on your stroll to the average flower market.

Though I’ve always been a fan of a statement boot, this is definitely a look that will make heads turn and nothing for a a highly sensitive shoe sole (typo and it stays...). But then again: Julia Roberts did it all before, so why not play a round of bitch stole my look while whistling “Pretty woman, walking down the street...” I guarantee instant good mood.

Happy Monday everyone!

Lady in red

It was my B-day lately, and after celebrating in Milan (friends, champagne, heels), and Amsterdam (more friends, more champagne, heels), I thought I'd take the party to Belgium as well (you can guess with whom, can’t you?).

My designer friend Kim Siderius provided me with the most lovely dress (so red, so beautiful that every red carpet would turn green with envy), and all other gear to celebrate was as grown-up as I certainly feel now. As in: confetti, balloons, a decent swing, and whipped cream still does the job after all those years. Oh well, not to forget the odd pair of High Heels as well.

So after all that dancing, laughing, celebrating and high heeling, I may have checked into Betty Ford by the time you read this (I wonder if they do courses for heel and fun addicts?). But I can certainly tell you: I had the time of my life. Now off she dances in that red dress, humming:

“Lady in red is still dancing with the, (gorgeous heels),
There’s nobody here, it’s just me and the Gucci's,
It’s where I want to be,
Don't make me go (-dramatic “Oooo”, ) -ending this does not feel right,
but I’ll never forget the way I felt tonight.”

Whenever in need of a special detox day is (very much appreciated after all the partying whilst celebrating Kingsday in the Netherlands) I head to the Dutch seaside to enjoy nature and get back in touch with the pure elements.

Just taking the heels out on a relaxing stroll (balancing like a clown on eggs in the soft and moist sand), feeling the gentle breeze of the Dutch wind (probably wind force 10) and wearing nothing but a lace dress to make sure the sun can gently caress your skin (which you won’t feel because the stiff breeze is almost blowing you out of your Guccis): what a great idea!

I assure you, you will feel absolutely sober and rejuvenated afterwards and definitely HOPE you never have to do this again, LOVE the idea of going home and cuddling in blankets, and have FAITH that one day, ONE day you’ll learn to dance on the beach in heels and not look like an idiot doing so. But well, detoxing is overrated anyway. Where’s the next party?

“Look, look” best girlfriend squeals, pointing out some teeney-weeney red marks on her thighs: “These spider veins - hate them! Need to get rid of them. They're so hideous, I'll never wear a mini skirt again.” “Can’t stand the bags under my eyes” other friend recently revealed, hiding a hardly existent greyish shadow behind huge sunglasses. “So slacky and droopy, made appointment with “THE DOCTOR” already. Or shall I go for the face lift immediately?”

GIRLS! When did we become such experts in concentrating on our weak spots? Why do we spend so much time (armed with a magnifying mirror.... the devil indeed) obsessing over our flaws? Those veins - hardly visible - are just a tiny part of a pair of stunning legs, and no one is even likely to notice those 'bags' when they're attached to such a heart-warming smile.

A little more confidence ladies, and a little less unreal photoshop perfectionism would do us all a huge favour. Save that Dr. 90210 money and buy a lovely pair of super sexy incredible heels! That should help to distract even yourself, and give the ego the boost we all seem to need so desperately.

Oh. Me? I HATE my toes. High Heels make so much sense indeed! Love yourself!

The Most Beautiful Day

Oh weddings, how I love you! The cherry on a relationship, sealing the love-deal (hopefully) forever, being celebrated by a huge party gathering all friends... what’s not to like? It’s the only day that it’s not ridiculous to cry like a baby all the time (especially as the bride walks down the aisle) and where waterproof mascara and a hanky will do as the perfect accessories (nothing else will fit your tiny clutch anyway).

With two of my favorite ladies getting hitched this summer (countless mail-conferences about heels and back-up flats, dresses, bridal bouquets, locations etc), I think it’s only appropriate to share some of my favorite ideas for the big day. Am actually regretting that I’m not a) Martha Stewart, being able to decorate the most beautiful wedding settings all the time, or b) Owen Wilson, or Vince Vaughn so I could attend the fabulous event (of others!!!) more often.

Just one note: it’s not considered good manners to dress more beautifully than the bride, so tone it down a bit, and never EVER sit anywhere near the wedding cake. Just saying.

Happy Ending

Exactly 366 days ago I danced the night away at "Schöner Mann's" house (confession: in his house-slippers as it's an urban legend to be able to keep on high-heeling for 24 hours straight) to welcome this very year, the year I decided to share my everyday steps with you while running in heels.

And *wow* what a year it has been. Demanding and challenging on one hand (or heel), but also extraordinary, full of surprises and not one dull moment ever, EVER! Not a big fan of New Year's resolutions (except that I will buy that Pilates DVD for real, and practise it as well...), I can only say: what ever you fancy doing for the next 365 days: Just do it! Try harder and better and never - I mean NEVER (!) give up. Don't add drama to your life, add it to your outfit, and if you can, some inches to your feet as well. Believe me, the world looks better from above.

When the fireworks will burst at midnight, I'll be celebrating at Schöner Mann's casa again (never change a good thing or a fitting pair of Loubies) and sincerely hope that you all celebrate the beginning of 2013 with a happy ending of 2012 as well. Promise me to dance the soles off your High Heels too, will you?

Have a fantastic New Year!

The Pace Of Things

The Pace Of Things

Am up and running again, trying to catch up on all the things I missed out on while lying in bed wasting time. Which got me thinking about time. Two days in bed seemed like forever while almost a year of writing about shoes has simply flown by (366 days versus two: wow!). Why is it that champagne always evaporates immediately and camomile tea doesn't? Why is it that a whole night with precious people seems gone in a glimpse but a half hour business meeting simply crawls on and on like a turtle which you forgot to feed "speed" for lunch? And why, oh why is the moment gone so quickly when you try on some really "so out of your league" heels but can keep running endlessly in those old bargain flats?

Things we love always seem to go so fast and run so quickly (please note: GOING and RUNNING always implies proper heelwear too). All the other drag stuff seem endless (aka very "Crocs" - and I had to google that word because I don't even know how to spell it).

Guess that's just the pace of things. Am I still talking fever? Oh, that's gonna be gone in a split second.
