Pop of color

Pop of Color!

Almost every decent fashion blogger I know has at least one spring post that begins with the words: “It was such nice weather this weekend that I couldn’t resist matching my summery mood with the brightest colors in my closet.” Quite original right? Later in the year it will be all about how to sport white and how it’s such a fantastic contrast to your tan.... but who can blame them!

With the first flirty sun beams out, I caught myself (guess it’s a natural fashion instinct) removing all the spider-webs from my peep toe boxes, lovingly dusting yellow satin and “attention blue” leather, when some frenzy kicked in. All of a sudden the living room looked like some clowns had quite the swinger party and left without their clothes and heels (question to myself: do clowns wear heels?): but wow! How cheerful!

So here you have it: am coming out of the closet as well. As a sucker for the first pop of color of the year that is. Let’s wait until the sun has done it’s job and I have a nice tan shall we? I almost can’t wait to write about how gorgeously white pumps support summery glowing skin.

Festival fever

Festival Fever

This weekend music will once again turn the desert outside LA into one big stage: the Coachella Festival. And as soon as the first microphone will be switched on, millions of pictures will flood the net documenting the styling and outfits 1000 celebs put on to celebrate... uhm: probably themselves. I can only wonder why and when festivals - of all places -became the IT-source to show off designer ensembles that stylists put together weeks in advance so the girls are sure to look effortlessly cool (but utterly photogenic obviously).

Where are the days when you (once in a while at least) just grabbed an one of your boyfriend's old tees and those hideous boots (which you’d dig out every festival season and wouldn’t wear anywhere else) to swing your bootie to the beat instead of a clicking camera? Where are the days that you'd turn with the volume in a hot sweaty mess covered in beer instead of Chanel? And when did it become so popular to look for a photographer near you rather than your favorite band? *sigh*

Of course am completely unaffected by the hype: that’s why it only took me an hour to assemble today's outfit, and forever to train the perfect festival pose (yeah: you can look that one up!). So where are all the cameras: am totally festival fever ready. Peace!

2nd Advent

2nd Advent

The second Sunday of my advent special has arrived, and am getting in the mood. Clearly the weather recommends staying inside, somewhere warm (hot I must say, if I look at my heels). We've already had the first snow (aka utterly romantic), just a pity it didn't last. What is lasting (and increasing) though is the anticipation for the 24th (ding dong, it's not the postman but Santa...) - and the amount of oliebollen consumed. Of course. But hey: December is the month of love, and some gained love handles as an accessory seem fair enough to me. Who can complain anyway when stocking up on love - and speaking of it: who wants to move from the couch and go anywhere other than right onto the net for the ultimate Xmas wishlist (aka loooooove to dream away)? Right.

So let's go girls: light your second candle, snuggle up somewhere nice, get your laptops out and check PaulWarmer.com. Only 2 weeks to go to let Santa know what you really want to unpack under the Christmas tree. OK. Let's have some more oliebollen too then, shall we?

Rock ’n Roll Weekend

Rock ’n Roll Weekend

With boyfriend out of town as he's off to enchant the advertising crowd of “Eurobest” in Lisboa, am going to get some countryside air as well and visit favorite guitar player (whom you already met earlier this year) in Germany.

On the schedule just the usual when hanging out with a Rock star: not getting any sleep, having whiskey for breakfast, snorting ants, dancing on tables naked (only in heels of course), getting a tattoo (and not remembering the next day) and making a Rock Star baby. Haha - the latter was a joke of course. But definitely on the list is marvelling at a guitar collection that would make Elvis jump right back into his glitter suit and on stage (if he could), and my “heel collection” look like some nerdy gal’s side hobby. (which it.. ergh... actually is).

As for the rest of the hot party stuff: FGP and moi are actually so tired (he from touring this year, me from my “nerdy gal’s hobby") that we almost fall asleep before even having opened a bottle. Rock ’n Roll weekends are definitely the new detox. Cheerio.

Believe it or not, I didn't buy ANY heels in Germany due to too tight schedule (aka giving priority to meeting up with my real friends instead of the ones that come with a heel and end up in my closet). Accordingly, my hunger for some beautiful, exciting designs (aka possible new friends) is as huge as having been on a diet for too long. Very much Pavlov's dog, except I'm not drooling and fantasizing about chocolate, but feeling the usual tingle in my feet (read: heel fever).

Have no choice but must rush to my number one heel dealer Paul Warmer, the sugarfactory for those who are addicted to sweets (the leather version). And am so not disappointed. Here they all align: soft leathers (YSL!), shiny heels (Guiseppe Zanotti!), studded beauties (Balmain!) and OH MY DSQUARED2: almost D.I.E as I'm handed today's stunning pair by lovely PW crew (they certainly know what makes a girl happy!).
Aren't they just designed for a princess?

Am in heel heaven and must rush home immediately to tell prince (aka boyfriend) about it... it's my birthday in two days... might urgently add something to my wishlist.

Cinderella

Diving into other girls’ (shoe) closets is always fun. It’s like a fairytale (read another world full of wonderful stories) but accompanied with lots of bubbly and babble. Lucky you if your friend is from NYC, fluent in Brian Atwood and can tell the difference between Vince Camuto and Stuart Weitzman. Lucky you also, if you discover you have a “heel partner in crime” (still buying 12 inch high Dior’s but confessing to living mostly on wedges as that’s the only shoe you can really work on the Amsterdam cobblestones).

After having marvelled at my friend’s heel collection, we had planned to wear the cuties to a fancy place (every princess needs to shine every now and then). We end up having a girl talk on the stairs in front of her house though. Which beats being surrounded by frogs who would so not turn into a prince even if you threw them against a pile of shoe boxes anyway.

It’s just such a pity that it’s a school night, so as the gong hits midnight I have to hop in my carriage (aka cab) and disappear into the mist of Amsterdam’s night. No one is leaving a heel behind though. What a silly myth that is. No real Cinderella would abandon a designer heel just like that. Ever.

Fashion Week Finale

Fashion Week Finale

Had to come to the conclusion that editor is actually a cat. Or, therefore, catwoman.
After almost purring over the delicious food at Jasper’s (dammit, so glad I don’t use swear words: their oysters in coconut sauce are to die for!!!!!), we realized we’d eaten a monthly amount of calories (yeah: limoncello included) in three hours.

After feasting our way through carbs and cheese, a strategy for today is very much needed (how to miraculously loose a stone over night) as we will be hitting the grande finale of the Amsterdam Fashion Week: Edwin Oudshoorn’s catwalkshow. The last time I saw the designer, we were dancing wildly to rock’n roll tunes, so expect nothing less than a show that will sweep us off our feet (and out of our heels).

Catwoman has it all figured out: she will be wearing a dress by the designer himself (always works), and luckily my oversized Melanie Brown jacket will hide 5 star 3 course meal most elegantly. My attempt to copy my friend Heleen’s perfect blow dry failed miserably though. Now look like a cat myself. An exploded Persian that is.

Am wondering if wearing an umbrella as a hairpiece (to hide drama) is permitted front row..
