Summer Whites!

Summer Whites!

I stocked the shrunken jacket, undusted the wooden clogs, bought the denim (all of it) and the bohemian dress to fully step out in “must have” season gear this summer. Then again - and probably blame it on all the upcoming weddings this year - I unconsciously developed an utter crush on white (not only the staple white T: everything white! Tone in tone! Bring it on).

It’s a look which is always so geniously crisp and fresh on blogs & magazines but often in real life turns into fifty shades of grey (nothing sexy about that!) almost immediately, especially if you are a biking Amsterdam citizen. White shoes, the poor fellows suffer stains and always instantly lose the battle with cobblestones and I don't know how you do it, but I seriously considered wrapping them in plastic whenever wearing those treasures.

Can’t help it though and won’t stop trying - whenever there’s a love for a look there is a way to pull it off despite all of the adverse. I guess the dry cleaners around the corner and his mate (my shoemaker) will be my best buddies this summer.

Fashion week usually leaves me in a delightful fashion-coma for weeks afterwards: So much beautiful fashion to digest, so many trends to take in, inhaling inspiration with every fiber of a fashion addicted mind. In between champagne (excitement) and finger food (no time to eat otherwise) the adrenalin rush during this short time of frenzy is quite high - the fashion babble, interviews, outfit changes, burning feet due to running around, picture posing, people spotting: what a great circus to be part of!

I love every minute of it and have to thank 3 exceptional designers who made this year once again red carpet worthy (and 3 special pairs of heels to not let me down during all hasty sprints from one show to another). Please find my sketchbook of all the lovely ingredients for yet another unforgettable week above. I’m still in the clouds and want to keep on pretending that it’s o.k to jump around in evening gowns during day time, turning around for photographers (even if there are none) and keep on walking like there would be a red carpet everywhere.

Cold turkey now. Duh.

Off we hop on a plane again, for a weekend of debauchery (as if we hadn’t any enough lately) in Milan, a pre-birthday gift of BF and a reunion with our lovely friends from Brazil (you met them earlier this year). The schedule is appropriately Jet-Set tight, the suitcase crammed with uncle Karl’s designs (to avoid dress-malfunction like the last time I saw our fashionable friends), the table at Ceresio7 (run by Dsquared) is booked and the champagne at the Armani Privé Club waiting for us.

No time to stroll the city for shopping really, although huge damage can be done in very little time, I’m an expert! When my friend Paola asked if I'd been to Corso Como though, I had to shake my head in denial ('Oh no you missed it all!').

My lovely friend! I had Pizza, I had Pasta, I had Prada, I had Champagne, I had my friends, I had THE MOST AMAZING TIME! What could count more?

Oh! And there is that fabulous pair of mink manufactured sandals that I befriended too and had to import. But that’s for another High Heel post and that story shall be told next time.

Raindrops slowly drip from the back screen, subtly dimmed light creates the illusion of water on the catwalk, everybody is shut down in silence and eagerly awaiting.

I'm sitting front row at Dorhout Mees’s eighth collection at the Amsterdam Fashion week, and probably didn’t shut my jaw for the entire duration of the show. An endless floating transformation from structure to dissolution, a delicate dream of sophisticated organza layers to super tight and sexy construction. “O” - I whisper in awe, which also happens to be the name of the collection. “O” refers to the simplicity yet complexity of water crystals which the über-talented designer translated into a symphony of subtle blues and mellow pinks, some delicately wrapped in pleats, others in sharp cut out silhouettes. All of the designs are meticulously crafted and fitted to the bone, even the prints reflecting the iridescence of water surface. So elegant, so feminine, so flawless! You literally want to dive into every single piece of perfection presented.

If I may personally pursue the idea of a natural floating process: this talent doesn't need to show at the (nonetheless beautiful) river Amstel: it definitely needs to be the Seine!

Oh, and I totally forgot about today’s heels,
but who's to blame, am still busy closing my mouth, and spinning in vain in one of Dorhout Mees’s gorgeous creations myself.

Furry little things always work…

Besides all the glitz and glam, the annual trip to Cannes, and the occasional fancy party until the early morning hours, working in the advertising industry can be quite a drag. It’s always the hunt for a better, fresher, more outstanding and “never executed before” idea which will keep you awake at night and working on weekends. Wrinkles from frowning will occur, nightmares from clients appear, and sometimes not even the heels you chose as the first layout of the day will help to cheer you up during hours and hours of meetings.

So whenever desperately searching for the big unique idea (and not finding it... AGAIN), the odd trick might be pulled, abusing the combined force of utter cuteness and putting babies (aaaaahw) or small fluffy animals (even aaaaaahw-er) right on spot and in your ad.

See, I had NO clue what to wear or write or photograph today, but with the little help of my furry friends (Heels size 37, dog size 34), it actually became kind of a decent post. So bring on that baby, I still have some stunts to pull until the end of the year.

You know the situation when you meet for the first time and it's love at first sight but somehow simply impossible to get any closer at that time? You know how it feels to observe in delight from a distance and than go home and can't help daydreaming for weeks (no months!), chewing at the end of a pencil at work dreaming about THE one. That one, and the bright future you might have together.

Also picture if you meet the object of your desire two years later, available AND in reach. After all this time, and unforgotten impression... this must be destiny! Imagine it is a pair of shoes I’m talking about - long-desired, never forgotten and then FINALLY the moment: heel to heel.

Imagine it’s no match at all. And you have to let go on your first date because you realize size does (!) matter ladies, and my lovely Casadei’s which I just ordered at yoox.com were simply to small.
I'm broken hearted and will just have to say “no” to a long-desired affair. Or (very Cinderella-like) cut off my heels. *sob*sob*sob*

Todays shoes WERE Casadei

P.S. The Valentinos, which came in the same box and DID fit, I will keep. Sometimes it’s handy to date two pieces at the same time.

I know all of you have high expectations about my fancy heel-life. And rightly so. Was born in high heels, of course sleep in high heels (implies waking up in them), and most of the time will find a cool occasion where 10 inches and a glass of bubbly can be balanced.
Sometimes though I have to discover that I'm very human (aka unfortunately less Gaga than I'd like to be) and can't escape mundane tasks.
When you wake up (in high heels) but can't see the sun shining through the window, someone needs to take care of the problem.

Someone? Since this is a REAL diary, I can't spare you the ugly truth: it's me, armed with window cleaner (instead of a glass of champagne) and a cloth, cleaning dirty frames while balancing on a ladder. Ha. Still in sky-highs though. Have readers with high expectations and neighbours to give something to stare at.

Cheerio to the cleaning lady: always at your service.
