Simply Summer!

Simply Summer!

Since we all know that the dutch summer can be a little... erg... let’s call it moody, I suppose a little reminder that it’s actually still summer can’t do any harm. That time of the year, where you wake up to a cloudless sky (the only thing “blue” on your mind), 30+ degrees and and the drama of choice which barely existing dress to wear.

Needless to say that it’s also almost too hot to heel, so all ladies opting for flats to avoid Elephant feet in Gazelle sandals are excused. Well, my heels today are Buffalo’s and with a big crocodiles tear I think back of the beautiful summery day I wore them. Don’t we all need a reminder from time to time that it’s summer somewhere?

I don’t know about you ladies, but (even though have never won) I'm a sucker for seeking my fortune. It's not just Charlie Sheen who thinks “winning” is totally “now”, so a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. That twist-off cap promising you a fabulous trip to the Caribbean? Totally went to their website. That poll on any high-fashion-brand luring you to enter for a chance to win a seasonal outfit tip to toe? Check! Oh, and not to mention the numerous scratch-and-win tickets I love to collect, waiting for the right moment to scratch them open (BF thinks I’m crazy, but that’s another story and might very well been told another time...)

Never giving up though, it's all for a good cause. Just imagine how many good things you could do after hitting some jackpot! A whole new alphabet of opportunities would open its doors (from A (aka Altuzarra) over L (Loubies come to Mamma!) to Z (aka Zanotti - a staple in any heels wardrobe anyway).

But whatever method you might fancy to win that golden pot: try your luck adding a decent heel to your outfit you're at it. You'll remember that lucky pair forever. I'd say very win win indeed.

Center of the Universe

Center of the Universe

Whenever at my sister's, time seems to slow down a little, and whatever might usually be my focus in everyday life (how do I work and present, what is the result, do I look "Estee Lauder worthy" (aka did the damn miracle cream work?), what kind of heels shall I wear, what guestlist am I on? etc) seem like ideas from a different planet. And if I count the grins on the faces around me these past few days, I might very well just add: planet stupid.

Whatever I try to sneak into my life to make myself comfortable but uncomfortable (long hours, healthy food, clothes that are too tight, accessories that are basically unwearable, heels that are too high) turns just practical (and funnily enough sooooooo out of fashion) when being here. Surrounded by people you love? You hug. Hungry? You eat. Going out? You just go out (no time for an hour of styling). Tired? You sleep (whenever you have time to and fancy it). For the rest? ... just check if everybody else is all right.

So being invited to my sister's lovely parents-in-law tonight this means: eat, drink, love, hug, stay, stay a little longer, stay for just another drink (and another), hug once, hug twice, oh - and you're not even wearing make-up? Who cares. Luckily still managed to squeeze some Svarovski crystals in outfit but am definitely tempted to shift my center of the universe to Bavaria for real. Isn't it just damn cosy?

Live from the Red Carpet

Live from the Red Carpet

You must all know by now that a) I can’t sleep when boyfriend is not around, and b) would stay up all night anyway to watch Hollywood going wild on any red carpet: LIVE.

So the timing of the Emmys is perfect this year as it coincides with BF being in Cape Town. Do something useful during your insomnia right?: So I am watching.

LOVE watching all these actors and actresses nobody knows passing by in gowns by designers nobody cares about (Oh, that’s mean, but hey: it’s not the Oscars yet right?), but one thing in particular caught my attention. The - Wawaoom - “ManiCam”.
Well, E! is famous for inventing new stuff bringing every detail exclusively to our living room: “360 GlamCam” is just an example, and of course: the Stilletto Cam (which I obviously can’t get enough of).

But a “ManiCam”? Ergh... What’s next, the PediCam? The PubieCam? I know for sure that there are some wicked cuts out there...

Oh guys, can we just stick to dresses, jewellery, clutches and heels please?
It’s just r.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s.

The Art of Writing

The Art of Writing

Have totally neglected the art of reading lately. So finally taking a minute to have a rendezvous with literature (aka Vogue and such), catching up on latest world news (trends for A/W2012) and diving into cover articles all featuring young, aspiring actresses.

The setting is always a hotel lobby where the gals look flawless without any make-up (haha), effortlessly chic in their Louboutins (Louboutins are never effortless: they are PAIN), sporting “casual” fashion (Chanel, Dior, Valentino). Also the journalists (mainly guys) always seem surprised how humble, down to earth, open and funny the stars are, and most importantly: that they eat, may have an average glass of wine and how much less bitchy they are than expected.

Am more than willing to believe all of the above, and very aware that the art of writing in Magazines is highly influenced by studios, PR and publicists: but honestly: muaaaaaaaah. It’s all so similar! Would love to read a perky, different and spicy interview without the predictable. For a change.

Maybe I should sign up to give one myself (final version must be approved by my mom, boyfriend and editor of course). Can picture the finished article already:
“As she walks through the hotel lobby in incredibly high heels, elegantly swinging her MiuMiu, I can’t help but notice how much younger and slimmer she looks in person. Over a glass of champagne and a remarkable amount of oysters she so wittily and openly sparkles about her passion that time flies and before I know it I want to wear high heels myself”.

Hmmmmm. Not too bad actually...

The Cannes Routine

The Cannes Routine

There are a couple of routines in Cannes that everybody follows. Although these may differ slightly (pool party or Palais, beach or boat, BBQ at some villa or partying on the Croisette), they all end up at the same place: the inevitable Martinez Bar.

6 AM, just one last drink for the road, the sun already rising. Just one last chat and one remaining business card to hand over before you are thrown out by the bouncers… I don’t think there’s a single person in town who hasn’t done exactly so this week.

Plain tired and with feet sore from dancing, you start the route home. Following another routine, this one probably the most relieving: taking off your shoes.
It’s such a funny sight: all the ladies with their clutch and last drink in one hand, and high heels dangling on the other while trotting to their hotels.
A caravan of really really black feet, jumping quickly in a well, or running through the sprinklers to cool off a hot night.

I will definitely miss the Cannes Routine. That, and having rosé for breakfast.

Business as usual

It’s a beautiful day, and after a weekend of meditation (yeah, sure! ;-)) and good rest (since boyfriend is back I have slept like a baby again), I arrive at the office in high spirits (I love morning hours!).

Over Nespresso (delicious! George Clooney himself was in last week to deliver the machine) and croissants (two, at 580 calories apiece, surely won’t affect my bikini figure), I dive into my mail and duties for today.

Oh great,  my attending at the International Conference “What Design Can Do” has approved (all expenses covered) and they are even asking whether I would mind having an “all access” pass (+one) to attend all after show parties. Hell yeah!

And we have the final go for our next cover shoot (damn, I totally forgot to return Mario Testino’s call, next on my list…). We have full creative freedom to come up with something extraordinary and mind-blowing! I have the slight feeling we will have to have a shoot somewhere in the Caribbean (the light is so much better there).

Interrupted by the phone (Dries van Noten’s PR assistant, asking whether  my outfit for the ADCN Gala should be delivered to my business or home address. …), I quickly flip through other event invitations for the week when:

*Dingdong* new mail!

“Can you please stop daydreaming and align pages 1-50 ASAP?”

Bubble burst…..I almost forgot it’s Monday and business as usual…
