The real thing

The real deal

People might think that in the world of heels (aka mine) problems only revolve around first world concerns (hmmmm, just wondering what 2nd world problems would be... Crocs?): damn right they do.

It’s mainly about not just that ONE pair of heels, but three (always so hard to decide) which seem to be out of my reach (aka prices haven't been cut enough yet for me to rescue them all). And the annoying concealer which is so NOT covering the dark circles underneath my eyes (due to the long working hours to get in that money for those heels). Plus, finding the right outfit - and footwear! (adaptable for not just one but three different parties per night...) - a huge challenge. HUGE!

Glad to report that now that I’m home in Austria to celebrate Christmas with my family, all of the above seems miles away, ridiculous, and NOTHING compared to the real deal of spending time with my four precious nephews. Ergh.... I actually never needed that concealer more in my life.

Now, which outfit (and heels) to wear tomorrow when Santa arrives? My current one just got covered in finger paint and 4 handfuls of cookie crumbs.

I can feel the day arriving where it’s time to ditch the panty hoses, jump into the shorty shorts, cherishing the sun and the new season. (YES! Spring is looming!) However highly anticipated though: spring fashion not only makes me quiver from the inside (aka excitement, aka can’t wait), but other body parts too. Especially those I wish I hadn't caressed & fed with comfort food during the winter months.

But after saying hello to the love handles again, hating the winter belly and wishing I actually applied that anti cellulite cream, I came across the most efficient “anti-insecure-spring-treatment” brought to you by "Dr". Lena Dunham, creator, writer, director and main actress of the highly acclaimed series “Girls”.

Sister is jumping around naked in almost every episode showing every inch of her body, eating all the time and seems to be a hundred percent comfortable celebrating and exposing her curves. Highly contagious and a great lesson in self confidence than any diet you’ve ever tried. One episode a day and I swear you are ready to rock that certain too many pounds with pride. Bring on the cake, sugar and carbs along with the cropped shirt and tight dress: spring here I come. And shoe sizes never increase do they?

Thank you Lena!

Studying

Growing up in Salzburg and having had a music career of sorts, it was of course inevitable to study Mozart. Read all his scores (even that one of the Requiem which I sang in the choir). Loved playing the crazy guy: the lightness and naive child genius (he just shook things from his sleeve that would cause others artistic diarrhorea to compose) in his "Rock Star" work will remain unique in my mind forever (Oh, OK, today we have Justin Bieber....).

I also believe he never gave a damn about the way things were supposed to be done (something I always wanted to copy) and basically waltzed and farted his way through life (the former I actually DID copy) until his (unfortunately unlucky and early) end.

Today I find myself studying Mozart again. In cook-book-form that is. Promised "Schöner Mann" a real Austrian dinner for his birthday which, (shame on me!) was last February (guess "heeling" kept me too occupied). Oh damn! Forgot to buy Mozartkugeln. Sorry Amadeus. We will have your Sonata B-Dur KV 570 for desert instead.

Outta Space

My apologies. Firstly, for the resolution of today's picture which unfortunately didn't turn out to be quite the quality I wished for. But you must know that my mate Felix (who took the photo) was busy concentrating on himself (being the gentleman he is though, he did consider the demands of a lady and let her go (erg... jump) first...) and that it's really hard to fiddle with a camera at a height of almost 22.000 m. Secondly, for today's lack of styling, but Red Bull only provided one small pocket mirror in the capsule which Mr. Baumgartner and I had to share.

Was really excited when Felix invited me over for balloon ride, although am actually afraid of heights and would fancy breaking some heel-record rather than the speed of sound... But since we are both from Salzburg and therefor share a history of eating Apfelstrudel and dancing the waltz, I couldn't say no (plus, like ideas that are "outta space"). Having been quite nervous, am super glad everything went so smoothly (although lost a heel while landing which sucks big time).

Now believe it's time for a new famous quote: One small step for a shoe, a giant leap for heel-kind.

Fashion (and shoe) peace!

These days five (self-proclaimed) fashion experts can be seen battling for the title of “Shopping Queens” by bitching about each other’s closets (and outfits) on Dutch TV every day. Which brought me to thinking about closets, styling and …manners.

Yes, I must confess I may have given other gals “the eye” for not making the right fashion choices every now and then, but hey: I have also complimented them for surprising, inspiring me and coming up with things I myself would never have thought of.

Considering that a lady’s most private (we’re still talking closets and style, now don’t get distracted…. :-)) is also something that develops over years and under certain circumstances (think journey: and who hasn’t had a bad trip every now and then….), it strikes me as rather odd to judge someone’s whole personality based on one glimpse in her closet. What’s more, I find it just plain rude to simply mock everything you see.

I certainly know that money can’t buy style but also that a decent attitude never goes out of the same.

Speaking of which: I´m on a boat and off to an easy and relaxed style-free weekend on Ameland.
Sneakers and Anorak here I come, Fashion and (shoe) peace everyone!
