Happy New Year!

The long weekend after the New Year was so peaceful and inviting to do nothing that I did exactly that. Polished my heels, ate the rest of my Mom's cookies, slept in, cleaned out the Champagne bottles and before I knew, duty was calling again, and 2016 had officially started.

What a bliss to look back at the old year and give a warm welcome to 356 new days, completely free to be designed in each of your favors.
I hope they will be filled with new ideas, inspiration, laughter, health and happiness - plus the odd new shoe - which will carry you to great new places and adventures.

Have a fabulous start into the new year Shoemonsters!

Summer Whites!

Summer Whites!

I stocked the shrunken jacket, undusted the wooden clogs, bought the denim (all of it) and the bohemian dress to fully step out in “must have” season gear this summer. Then again - and probably blame it on all the upcoming weddings this year - I unconsciously developed an utter crush on white (not only the staple white T: everything white! Tone in tone! Bring it on).

It’s a look which is always so geniously crisp and fresh on blogs & magazines but often in real life turns into fifty shades of grey (nothing sexy about that!) almost immediately, especially if you are a biking Amsterdam citizen. White shoes, the poor fellows suffer stains and always instantly lose the battle with cobblestones and I don't know how you do it, but I seriously considered wrapping them in plastic whenever wearing those treasures.

Can’t help it though and won’t stop trying - whenever there’s a love for a look there is a way to pull it off despite all of the adverse. I guess the dry cleaners around the corner and his mate (my shoemaker) will be my best buddies this summer.

You have to know, that I’m obsessed with packing.

Having paid more for overweight luggage in my life than for actual tickets,
I learned to be effective.
I do not pack one pair of shoes for every day anymore, combine outfits instead of taking two for one day (a lady has to have the possibility to change right?)
and actually put out my scale to check the weight of my suitcase.

Actually I also like to put outfits together BEFORE leaving, lay them out and take pictures (well, now ONE for every day), print them and make a little mood board. That comes in handy, as I’ve learned that I mainly forget what outfit I had in mind after arriving. I will pack everything neatly in shoe boxes (that’s where the “babies” sleep during travel), and won’t face any hassle anymore. I’m so organized!
(“Hmmmmm, was the golden necklace in the Prada Box, or the Zara one….?”)

Anyway, as you can read I’m packing again.
I’m on an “incognito” trip to Vienna (well, I suppose it’s not so incognito anymore now :-), to see my beautiful friend after her surgery.

She is on the mend, joking again and all and I am beyond excited to see her.
Being aware that this is not a fun-fashion trip, I couldn’t resist packing some nice heels, until I checked the weather for Austria.

It’s gonna be SIBERIAN cold!
They’re predicting -25 Degrees Celsius at night (that’s not really pump weather, also not in Fahrenheit…)! PANIC! I’m forced to rethink.

So frantically I’m pulling everything out of the closet which gives me the promise to stay warm and cozy and (with a little sigh) leave out the sweet nursery costume I intended to wear. Instead I will look like a Yeti which has just hit an avalanche.

Not that I’m not used to sport hideous layers lately at home too.
Why? Because the heater in our house is broken for two days in a row now.

I want to dedicate todays post to my friend in hospital.

They diagnosed a cyst in her brain which needs to be removed.
Although she assures me that it sounds worse than it actually is,
you can probably imagine that I am beyond worried.

Having had her on the phone just now (a 580 miles distance doesn’t come in handy after a message like that….), she told me that her concern before rushing into hospital (after worrying about her daughter) was actually to quickly wash her hair, (bad thing IN your head does not justify bad thing ON your head) and is already regretting that her last pedicure is a couple of months ago (kinda walk ON shame).

Having just written about “If you feel down dress up”,
I do understand every single word, but cannot help but wonder what are we crazy bitches busy with?

We want to give the best impression from (literally) head to toe. Always.
We feel the need to stay strong by all means.
We think about others first (and what they might think).
But our strength can also be tyrannous.
And our perfectionism a brat.
Beauty, money, power is all an illusion. (And surprise: Vogue is too!)
The only thing that matters is health and love really.

You wicked, crazy, super woman:
I love you to bits, get better soon!
